Engine Options For Ke25 Coupe

74coupe

Recommended Posts

Hey guys just after some advice.

Been told that a sr20 is too big to fit a ke25 coupe? I have no idea as I haven't ventured down this path before.. What will work and what will fit?? Don't want to do firewall mods and all that and don't want to be spending over the top amounts.

Cheers guys.

I'm still learning Bout all this so I don't mea to sound retarted haha.

Its very simple- it depends on how much fabrication you can do yourself, and what you want the car to do. Any 4cyl will fit, some just cost more than others.

First up, any motor you buy is likely to need a couple of grand spent on it before you even fit it. Rings and bearings etc, we're talking 20years of wear here...

Obviously a K motor is easiest and can be done for a couple of grand. 4K, 5K or 7K. It will make a quick little daily.

One of the SOHC motors would be next, the old 4A etc, cheap as no-one else wants them.

Last would be the twincams, 4AGE or Nissans, but it will set you back 10grand unless you can do a lot yourself.

Pick up a partly-done project from soneone who was too optimistic in what it would cost. There are always quite a few for sale, people run out of money or enthusiasm.

just go to google...type in "X engine into ke20/25" where X is any engine that you can think of, and it has probably been done before.

here is a v8 and a straight 6 turbo;)

judging by the sound of your first post, i suspect you will be starting off with something like a 4k or 5k engine.

there are some nice examples on here, mate, for you to check out. go to the rolla club rides and search thru them for some nice ideas.

i personally am thinking a rotary, like Shane's secksee beast here:

so much room and less weight, imho. doesnt have to be a race tuned engine to fly, either.

there are soooo many nice 4 cyl builds to excite you, and me, in the rides' thread.

hope this gives ya something to look into

Found out can engineer a sr20 non turbo or a ca18 turbo.. As I want it legit.. But due to funds not there now I can't afford that option lol

10 grand to do a 4age swap is that right, it sounds pretty dear?

What do they normally set people back?

Depends if you rebuld the motor or just use what you get, depends on how much work you can do yourself in fitting everything, and depends on how many mates owe you favours for fabricating stuff. Aso depends on how well you want it to work afterwards as a professional "as good as factory" or not.

Most guys-

Don't rebuild it, so it runs badly or breaks down

Do a lot of the work themselves because they've done a couple of expensive but badly done conversions before

Know mates who can do fabricating and welding for a few beers

Accept an OK but not very good job and drive around the niggling problems.

But take it into a garage and say "fit a 4AGE for me" and you won't see any change out of the $10k.
