B.L.Z.BUB Posted May 16, 2015 Author Report Posted May 16, 2015 Might look at 3s down the track. I have grown pretty fond of 4a's though. New problem : starter motor is toast. Checked everything, bypassed everything. No dice. :( Quote

B.L.Z.BUB Posted May 17, 2015 Author Report Posted May 17, 2015 God dammit work properly you piece of shit. Quote
B.L.Z.BUB Posted May 17, 2015 Author Report Posted May 17, 2015 Ok, so I put the cams in last night and dialed in the shims, took freaking ages. Wouldnt start. Pulled the timing belt off and checked all my timing marks which were all sweet. Put it all back together, the timing belt was being a c-nut. Eventually got it all back together and running , went to take it for a drive and it bogged under load. Figured out I had rotated the crank a tooth when doing the timing belt. Once I sorted that out the starter motor gave up the ghost. Luckily I had gotten my missus to grab a spare off a mate in Brizzy. Threw that in, the heat shield didnt have a mount on the new one so tied it on with wire. Still wouldnt start. Pulled the dizzy out for what felt like the 50th time, out by a tooth. BAM. Done, humming. All this was done on my driveway in the rain. It needed to be done because I am 100% broke and the AW11 is the only car I have with fuel in it. And this is my Darwin Award submission. ke70dave Posted May 17, 2015 Report Posted May 17, 2015 The ol' 1 tooth out on the dizzy trick! Its a pain cause as you insert it and the gears make it spin. Very frustrating. How the valves sound with the shims adjusted? Nice and quiet? I never done shims, not really looking forward to ever doing them. .... Quote
B.L.Z.BUB Posted May 17, 2015 Author Report Posted May 17, 2015 Everything sounds great. The car feels a lot smoother through the rev range. Definitely has more pick me up in the later revs. Less rattly. Shims aren't really hard just frustrating if you get the maths wrong. Quote
B.L.Z.BUB Posted May 20, 2015 Author Report Posted May 20, 2015 Genuine handbrake cables, beefed up to phuch rear tie rod arms with MOOG tie rods and gear linkage bushes. Got an AJPS dizzy rebuid kit coming and I should be set to get this RWC and in my name. Will probably do the entire bush kit I have too before I do a wheel alignment. Thinking 1mm toe on the rear, 5.5 castor and 1.5 camber front. Wish I had camber control on the rear. 1 Quote
springersrolla Posted May 20, 2015 Report Posted May 20, 2015 You should be able to get camber bolts for the rear, i found this just a quick search http://www.mr2australia.com/mr2play/m/tm.aspx?m=93571&p= what bush kit did u get?? Quote
altezzaclub Posted May 21, 2015 Report Posted May 21, 2015 Might look at 3s down the track. I have grown pretty fond of 4a's though. Can't fit a V6 in there somehow? Quote
B.L.Z.BUB Posted May 21, 2015 Author Report Posted May 21, 2015 Yeah a lot of people are doing the V6, I dunno why you'd wanna put more weight in the rear though. I'll most likely stick with the 16v and look at ITB's and a gearbox upgrade. My mission right now is making sure the suspension and brakes are all good then I will decide on the direction of the engine. The cams though <3. Loving them so much. Quote
B.L.Z.BUB Posted May 22, 2015 Author Report Posted May 22, 2015 I'm happy with the 4age. It's an engine I know and can fix and it's fun. I don't want anything exotic or fast. I want a nice 4age Mr2 that handles well, sounds good, stops good and can get me to work reliably. Quote
Taz_Rx Posted May 22, 2015 Report Posted May 22, 2015 Can't fit a V6 in there somehow? Unfortunately aw11's weren't developed with a homologation budget! Quote
B.L.Z.BUB Posted May 23, 2015 Author Report Posted May 23, 2015 This should tighten up the shifter along with the new shifter housing bushes. Quote
