Mmm, pretty 3SGE :)

I wouldn't go quite that far... Really depends on the fan involved, and the way it's setup. In Pinky (using the Suzuki Vitara fan bolted on with no shield except for the stock one) my 4K used to run a little warm most of the time, and boil if I trashed it. Had to take a break after every 3 laps at Carnell, and by 7 laps at QR it was well in the red zone... In Hal (4AGE) I've got an aftermarket fan with a custom shroud. I've never ever had it run hot. Even constant 8000RPM for about 10 minutes on the skidpan only made the oil hot, water was still at normal temperature (BTW, I've since learnt to drive a bit more smartly on the skidpan and rarely even pass 4000RPM now :)). Mind you I have an extra core in the radiator and the radiator is probably in better condition than the one in Pinky... Some fans are more efficient than others, and with all fans it'll work best if it's setup right. So Doug, are we going to see you on Sunday then? :) :D :)

That is sooo cool, good luck with that :) And yes, women automatically get a +100 point hotness bonus by being involved in motorsport :)

I have an 87 Camry wagon. I used to have a 92 Excel, and I used to have a 91 Lancer GSR. I have a Satria GTi in Malaysia too... I like old cars for their simplicity and their relative low cost. I like new cars for their "jump-in-and-go" factor, comfort and generally the other improvements that came with the many years of further research put into them. My ultimate dream car is still an Evo...

irokin: True, but the power required by the electric fan is essentially "delayed" because it comes from the cars electrical system. Whether your electrical system is under load or not, your engine still has to turn your alternator around, so you can't really avoid that. The engine fan however, uses up power all the time, not to mention reducing responsiveness. As long as your electrical system isn't under extreme load (from big spotlights or massive stereo systems etc) and your electric fan doesn't chew a heap of power, an electric fan does tend to help make the engine "more fun"... However, if you have to put a bigger alternator (more power drain) on to run your electric fan, then I'd think twice about it...

Oh WOW doug, you've outdone yourself again... SO COOL!

Hmm, strange that you've had so many problems... I haven't had any problems with either my KE55 or my KE35, but then again I may have just been lucky...
-
I wouldn't mind more photos of Hal... Complete with broken front spoiler etc...

That's what Transinfo told me to do too, hence I assumed there was no train station in Nambour.
-
Peter: Bruce from Nambour (can't remember his last name). Rob recommended him, and a few other people also did so I am assuming he's good. He's quoted me $1100. Simple 6 point, I am guessing it would be CDS (that's cheaper right?). Weld in, removable intrusion bars for legality. Harness bar included. I forgot to ask, but I am assuming he knows I need it to be CAMS approvable.

Hmm, well there you go, there is a train station in Nambour... Yet again I haev proved that I am an idiot :) Irokin: You should hear my diff... I don't even know if I'm going to make it to Willowbank on Sunday!
-
Hmm, oh well guess I get to put my ear plugs to good use then :) I wonder if my diff will survive the trip? Hmm... :) I just checked Transinfo, there doesn't appear to be a train station in Nambour, only in Caboulture?
-
Oh WOW. Just checked UBD, Nambour is a long long way away... Maybe I should get the car towed there instead? Hmm...
-
Woo hoo, Hal booked in for cage to be made :) He's kindly offered to even pick up the car, however I'm sort of thinking with the condition of the diff maybe I should drive it up to him... Anyone free on Monday? I need a ride back from Namboor :)
-
Re FWD/RWD classes: Yes, just realised that on the weekend. My bad. I should look into entering motorkhana on Sunday... Been meaning too, been slack. Must go buy ear plugs today, the ear muffs are very hot...

Took the car up to 100k's on the freeway today, and I'm certain if I was strapped to the engine of a 747, I'd still be less deaf. At 60 the car is annoying, at 100 it's just plain ridiculous... Had a squiz at the rear brakes again, the axles seem to be seated well still, so don't know if I'm going to drop everything again or wait till I find another center... Am not sure how I'm going to get the car to Willowbank on the weekend, if I don't find another center by then I think I'm just going to have to whip out the BIG ear muffs... Or the noise cancelling headphones?

Have discovered the problem with my brakes... I've got about an 0.5 - 1mm bearing end float, probably from too much gasket goo... Car is going up on stands again maybe tonight, or tomorrow, and everything is going to be redone. Diff is really annoying. I am so over it. Am going to start looking for another one tomorrow, open or LSD, depending on what I can find and what I can afford...

Hmm, how bizzare. Fixed drivers side caliper fouling the disc, and now the passenger side doesn't clear! Strange, strange... Oh well, going to Bunnings to buy more washers...
-
I saw it at Robs house yesterday, COOL ;) Heh, Datgirl and Batgirl ;) Looks like you had a ball, and good publicity too...
-
Everything is in. Well, was in, it's now partially apart again. Drivers side caliper is fouling on the disc, hope I haven't warped the disc, it was pretty darn hot... Diff whines. A LOT. Going to run it in for a few days, then drop the oil and fill it up, and then jack it up and fill it up more... Gearbox is very nice (or at least, feels nice, I can't hear it over the whine of the diff at all). It does, however, get VERY warm... is this common? I never noticed the heat from the Celica T50, but with the AE86 T50 I can feel it radiating through the transmission tunnel... Today going to see what I can do about this fouling caliper... Oh, note to self (and others): If you have a very tight LSD, avoid drive thru's, and turning sharply where the ground is made of cement (like petrol stations). Draws a lot of attention. Also beware of roundabouts, car likes to go straight. Apart from that, KICKASS. Ultra predictable, no more loss of power, just squats and takes off... Oh, another note: Not all T-series diffs have the same pinion flange. I found out the hard way. Makes life interesting...

ae71neo: more nav run info

Have put Jap gearbox in car. Shift feels okay (though very sloppy), reverse a bit hard to engage. All going well, until cordless drill ran out of battery... again. must-get-power-drill... Left to do: - Finish drilling holes in transmission tunnel for bolts. - Drill holes in cover plate for bolts - Buy M6 nutserts, don't have enough. - Fill gearbox with oil - Bolt in shifter - Finish installing swaybar - Pick up tailshaft, bolt in. - Double check everything - HAVE FUN ;)

Oh crummy, I'm an idiot. You're all correct, I am all wrong ;)

Hey look, Andrew is back ;) And I got that from TripleM ;)
