Hmm, I must be approaching the wrong sort of shops then. All the places I've been to have quoted me approx $4K for a push in push out job (everything already stripped). That's for prime & paint in flat acrylic white. Do you know how to paint? *grin*

If you only get rust repairs done, it will be cheaper. They usually charge per hour, so if it needs more work, it costs more.

$4K in a paintshop won't get you very far unless you have some mates. That's one of the problems I have with the KE35 too, paint. I've been doing the priming etc myself, but I don't know if I'm game enough to topcoat it myself...

Okay cools. So is the muffler still on the car? or... Just cause well, welding upside down is even harder than welding the right way around... I don't know if I can bring the welder to Robs place tho, just cus the gas bottle doesn't quite fit in Pinky...

I have a MIG, I won't claim I can weld though. But if you want I can give it a go, I've welded all the holes on the 35. I can most probably tack a tip on. Maybe. I dunno :blinks:

Oh wow, hehe maybe after a days work Pinky will go so well that I'll forget about even the KE35! :blinks: I've never heard of a timing chain letting go in a K motor either (have heard of timing belts letting go in other engines, some with rather disastrous results), but I'm guessing all that rattling and stuff can't be good... Who knows, maybe my tensioner's just worn or something. How does one "fix" problems with a valve stem seal? Replace the valve? Rehone the valve seats?

Rob: That quick? Wow... I would assume that would be with a replacement head (and not taking the head off and fixing it up and putting it back on)? Well Jamie recons if I'm going to take the head off and do the timing chain I might as well also spend an extra $100 or so on a cam grind (but that would mean having the car off the road for a bit). Maybe after I get the 35 running - so I have another drive car - I'll fix it all up :blinks: Or maybe I'll do it now... Anyone have a spare cam? :)

Hehe, Jamie recons my timing chain AND valve stem seals are all gone (probably why Pinky only sounds like a diesel on good days), but... *meh* :blinks: Maybe one day I'll fix it...

If I come around with Pinky (well, it's not like I can "come around" with the 35...) then I'll probably just want to do small little things like adjust my tappets, increase ign timing, maybe try to fix my tripcomputer...

Oh sweet it's a Pajero :) Haha, do you know what that means in Spanish? :D Your place? A definite possibility. :D You most definately have enough tools (and a big enough compressor!) to run a small workshop, and where you don't have something (like a welder :blinks:) I probably do :) I picked up my air tool kit and connector yesterday, HAHAHAHAHAHAH was running around the house with the air gun yesterday, heaps of fun! Pity the degreaser gun doesn't quite shoot like a watergun, I was hoping it would :) New toys are great... Now I need to buy... A rattle gun, maybe a die grinder...

How much noise do you want to make? As long as it's during the day sometime, I can't see any home job fix-up that would make too much noise unless someone comes around with a car that needs the entire roof angle grinded off and a whole rear end panel beaten out. And, in most cases fixing 10 cars vs fixing 1 car doesn't really make any more noise. It's space that's usually the issue. You'd need someone's house with maybe at least a 2 car port, with lawn space to work on too. The house we used to do it at in Ferny Grove had a 2 car lockup garage (although 1 was usually taken up by his parents car) and a 1 car carport, and enough lawnspace to park 2 cars. This proved to be sufficient enough to work on about 6 or 7 cars (obviously not all at once), as generally someone only needed to do an oil change or something which was fairly quick. Some people even just came round to wash their car. And no, it actually wasn't the imports that were taking up the most time. It was usually the really old Euro cars. See, you have new cars, and you have old cars. The new cars are generally too complex to do much with them, so we don't do much with them. The old cars, now those ones we can play with. But then you get the old Euros like the Volvos... And geez. This one time (at bandcamp) we were trying to do a service on this old Volvo that probably hadn't been serviced since 1973, it was enough of an epic looking for parts for it (eventually found a Repco that had the airfilter). Taking off the old air filter, it had completely dissintegrated, and there were leaves, paper bits and gawd-knows-what-else in the box. Next came the oil filter. Due to some stupid design, you had to take the headers off to take the oil filter off, and the bolts were all rusted in so we just swirled new oil in it a couple of times and put the filter back... Dodgy. And the roof on that thing mustave been filled with like something cause the roof got so hot (from the sun) that when we sprayed water on it (to wash the car) it vaporised before it even hit... So we cracked an egg... and it fried :blinks:

"under his breath"? More like very out loud! Gawd you change your mind quickly... Oh well, at least you're coming back to a "real" car :blinks: I'd like to get my KE35 finished by end of March next year, but yeah... at the rate things are going now, might not be so optimistic. If I can get it on the road (not finished) by then I think I'd be rather happy...

Oh, like that. What I had in mind (well, what we do in the climbing club anyway) is we all get together with all our cars and do whatever work is required on them (as in all the cars get worked on, not just 1). Usually it's just oil changes, maybe some minor tuning, I've painted my brake calipers (twice), built a sub box, helped someone fix a big rust hole in his Gemi, installed a stereo (2 actually), that sort of thing. Usually we do the work we know how to do on our own cars, and where we don't know how to do something hopefully someone else there does and helps us out, and vice versa.

I don't mind. Once a month a bit often don't you think? And of course time pending etc.

No, nothing wrong with entering a stock car - as long as it looks good (and yes, yours does look good). I don't know about everyone else, but I know that mine isn't exactly a neat example of a KE55...

Haha, no you're supposed to leave the beer till AFTER you finish work on the car... Like a lot of other things that require some sort of thinking, common sense and precision, alcohol and fixing cars generally don't go so well together...

We already do do this :blinks: Just not "officially" Although I also do this "officially" with the climbing club I'm in... We call them "car days", haven't had one in awhile though.

As in, BYO supercharger :P Actually, it's got a RWD intake manifold already, so would be a suitable candidate for a turbo :)

Maybe calling an exhaust shop would be more helpful than asking a bunch of people who probably don't know or don't remember... And besides every case is different.

Straight stock 4AGE, for a small port probably about $600 or so, big port less. I know of a big port going for $3K, but this is very worked, virtually formula atlantic specs. Like I said before, I also know of a 4AGZE minus supercharger for sale, I think it's going for about $700 or so, freshly rebuilt and run in.
