Haha, that is true. Pinky is relatively quick around the pan and definately a barrel full of fun. Both "Quickness" and "Funness" could be increased if power increased though :P

Would also depend very much on shape of car (wind resistance), weight, type of tyres (rolling resistance) and some other things I can't think of right now. Oh yeah, also the tuning of your engine (whether you've tuned it for more torque down low or more power up high) My Corolla maxes out at about 130km/h on flat ground (just over 4000RPM) and about 140km/h downhill. I've however heard of other 4K-C Corollas maxing out at higher speeds.

I would be inclined to agree with Nick on this one. All cars understeer if you don't drive them right. Cars that are too heavy in front understeer cause there's too much weight (too much inertia) in front and not enough in the back to get any momentum happening, cars that are too light in the front understeer because there's not enough weight to keep the front on the ground. The 86 (and S13 among other cars) are an almost 50/50 split, so tend to be quite neutral unless driven wrongly. That said, suspension setup also makes a huge difference, any car can be made to be very understeery or very oversteery, no matter what the weight distribution is. My Lancer (FF) was more prone to oversteering because of the way I set it up, and this eventually led to it's death at QR when it oversteered into a sand trap. My Corolla is more or less neutral, if I just turn the wheel hard or come in too fast all it will do is understeer. However, get the weight transfer right and once the front end sticks, it's oversteer all the way. Same with all other cars I've driven, including several FF cars like the Satria GTi, Proton Wira, Excel, Mazda 626, Camry etc, and FR cars like my Corolla, IS200, IS300, SC430, ES300, BMW318 etc, and RR cars like the Porsche 911. With FWD cars however (esp if it's reasonably powerful) even once you get the oversteer happening if you get too hard on the accelerator it will start to understeer again - generally leading to a 4 wheel skid. And RR cars are very hard to catch once they start to oversteer, believe me. Another trick that you can use is a Scando Flick, but again you have to get the weight transfer right or you will just end up understeering. It's much more important to get it right in this trick because of the direction of forces on your front tyres, which will actually lead to less grip on the front end. But, if you get it right, you're almost guaranteed oversteer. Unfortunately, if you have a POS RWD car like my Corolla, oversteer is only really possible either with really shit tyres, a very off camber corner, with a lot of water or dirt or on the pan (equivalant to having shit tyres), because with sticky tyres all you ever end up doing is either nothing at all, or just lifting the inside wheel and smoking that up, again with no oversteer. I've tried everything including massive scando flicks, and I think I've decided it's either impossible or pretty damn hard. *edit* Also interesting to note that with stiffer suspension it's harder to control understeer/oversteer because it's harder to get the weight transfer happening. But it does generally increase the grip treshold, which is a good thing :P

Really? I thought they were meant to be very neutral, which is why everyone likes them so much. And if you think they're understeerers, I'm guessing you've never driven a FWD car, most of them are far worse.

Justin: nice site.

Mr HachiRoku: You've got the hachi roku, I'm sure you can do it :) ps: and if you have a large rear swaybar, even better - after all my car is completely stock :P
-
Okay, silly question - what is happening at Willowbank on 12th July? I'm guessing something at the drags? Cause it's not on my QR calendar...
-
Justin: as if those simex's would ever wear out :P My riken's are down to like 10% thread now and my simexs still look brand new...

In theory, from fastest to slowest: 4wd fwd rwd and obviously cars with better tyres will be faster around the pan. And, "funnest" to "not funnest" rwd 4wd (well, could be as fun as rwd but I recon rwd is more fun cause you go round the pan slower) fwd :P
-
re tyres: don't worry, mine are shit bald too. And no I don't have money to buy new ones :P So it'll be dorifto mode for me I recon...
-
Just to get the "mood" happening :P

Go karts are fun to drift. Ben is a crazy go kart drifter.

Depending on timing I would probably be interested. And nick, you have 4wd (and a shiteload more power), if you don't beat me I don't know what to say... :P
-
LOL :D I'm staying out of this one...

Irokin: Oh yeah I forgot you've got the old Mazda stud pattern... In any case I have 3 more rims, you'll have to find another 4th one (assuming you change you stud pattern to the more common 4x114.3).
-
I have 3 more... :D
-
Metal shavings? oooh, hope they didn't mess up your engine too much... Metal shavings in the engine is never a good thing.
-
I'm sure he likes the way the car looks, just doesn't really work for me... Then again a lot of people object to me putting jellybeans on my car so... :D But they're shiny... (well, one of them is anyway, have yet to polish the other 3)
-
Why are there so many wires? Why would the gearbox need a neutral wire? On mine AFAIK I only have 2 wires, for reverse.
-
I recon it looked better when you had it. The white just so doesn't go, the rims are very ordinary, and what's with the decals...
-
Grim: Have a look at the scale (hmm, gee people kinda small) and ask the question again :D They are basically trucks (buses, fire engines, whatever) that have been made to look like roadsters...
-
Looks... Like fun. Are you anticipating any problems with engineering? From what I've heard you can't run a surge tank in-cabin like what you've done, but I may be wrong. I'll bet you can't wait to "drive down to the shops" once it's on the road :D

Do you think your project car is really *huge*? If you think it is, check out Big Bertha and Blastolene Special. Here's an insight to what you're in for:

Spanky: Heh, you could almost be my best friend :D I've been looking at a pair of Sennheiser headphones for awhile now, are there any deals on them? :D

I think they were trying to emulate Japlish :D And I think they did a pretty good job :D ps: If you are unsure what Japlish is, here is a glimpse... There's much more, just do a search on "Japlish"... And then there are the variations of Japlish, as can be seen by this Taiwanish... Nankang's Tyre Range
