Power steering ones are about an inch shorter. Quicker rack. Umm... Does anyone have any spare 14" or larger wheels in RWD offset with 4x114.3 stud pattern, any sort of tyres? I kinda just realised that once I put all this gear on I can't push the car around anymore because I have no wheels that fit on the front! :) Maybe I'll just put it all together and leave the calipers off, the 13" steelies *might* fit over the discs by themselves...

Front suspension almost sorted, just a few things more and a few mods to make and it'll bolt together... Mmm pretty :) Total cost of front suspension + brake setup so far: $2200 (geez it'd better work) Components: RT132 Corona struts shortened 40mm Custom adjustable height coilover setup King Springs 250lb 250mm 65mm ID prosport springs Boge bumpstops (these bloody things are ridiculously expensive - in retrospec should have just gotten some rubber bits to use as bumpstops) KMac adjustable strut tops AE92 Koni Sport adjustable shocks AE86 powersteering steering arms Mitsubishi Scorpion GE (or GH) lower control arms Custom lower control arm bushes Peugeot 604 slotted vented discs Toyota Landcruiser 4 piston calipers Mazda RX7 Racebrakes RB74 pads Things left to get: Bleed valves Brake lines Custom crush tubes for lower control arms Things still to be considered: Heavier swaybar? Other bushes (that are currently in varying states of deteoration, and all rubber) More photos: http://fookseung.fotki.com/automotive-1/ke...nt_strut_setup/

Check out Kelly in Zilmere, they've got quite a few KE70's.

I got a link awhile ago on some Thai site with a couple of nice looking KE30's (generally with SR20's in them :KY:), but can't find it at the moment... If you search for TE37's you might find some interesting stuff though. Google is your friend.

Sounds like fun :KY:

4x114.3. Gawd, it looks really beat up hey... I hope you're not paying much for it! Else, I know of a relatively okay looking one (just has a bit of rust here and there, dead battery and need new rear tyres for roadworthy I think), it's got a PERFECT dash (very rare), going for about $800. Even comes with the original owners manual for both the car and the radio!

There is a limit to how "big" an engine you can fit, but I forget the ratio (it's a weight/capacity ratio thing). For instance I'm fairly certain putting a 13BT in a KE20 is illegal. But then again it all depends on who modplates your car, I've seen 13BT KE20's modplated before even though technically it is illegal. You will need brakes "equivalent or better" than donor car - in your case if it's an AE86 shouldn't really be too much of a problem. Besides there are easy bolt on upgrades for AE86. Diff, suspension, tyres etc, no need to touch unless it's not roadworthy, although you'll probably blow something up if you don't treat it nice. chassis, cage, seamwelding - all up to you. Seamwelding as far as I've heard does work, but is a fair bit of work for not so much gain. But it does help. Cage, if you want it. Will probably save your life if you crash and will stiffen chassis. Again up to you. I have a KE35, it is getting a stock 4AGE. It won't be remarkably fast, but it will be getting a cage, but no seamwelding because I tried, and I suck at welding. Would have been nice to seamweld it though. Maybe in another lifetime.

There're quite a few options out there, just depends how much you want to spend and what sort of setup etc etc. I'm running XT130 Corona brakes in the KE55 at the moment, these are pretty much bolt on. I've got XT130/Landcruiser brakes in the KE35, these are almost bolt on (a bit of machining etc involved) Alternatively other setups I know that work: XT130/Hilux XT130/RX7 RA40 RA60 And I've heard of these as well (don't know if they work, but have heard of them): RA60 with Commodore discs/calipers? Commodore calipers with Magna discs? XT130 HQ Holden discs/calipers? XT130 with P76 discs Among others...

** TOO COOL FOR SCHOOL ** That almost looks like a 4AGE... I wonder how much bigger the CA18 is to the 4A...
-
Junior: Ah okay (and yes I knew you weren't supposed to run full rubber hose all the way). I was just thinking of how to avoid having to make bigger fuel lines :blinks: Did you model your 5/16 lines exactly the same as the original lines? Or just make a more or less straight piece the full length of the car and run the rubber hoses to the line?
-
Junior: very very nice, I'm very very impressed. Are you running rubber fuel line all the way? Is that surge tank from somewhere in QLD? I've seen an identical one for sale somewhere recently... I'm currently sorting out (or I should say starting to think about) fuel for the KE35 (4AGE), would be interested to see what you are running. My current plans are to use the original fuel lines, low pressure pump to the engine bay, surge tank in engine bay and high pressure from there. But yeah, not sure yet.

I'll see how I go with the 35 (if the weather's good I'd LOVE to finish priming it and maybe guide coat it too), but I'll probably pop by at least for a short while to say hello :blinks:

7K-E: 1.8L (?) K motor, EFI. Came out in I think some Liteaces or something.
-
Wow, how do you write off a car and still have a good rear bar, front bar and side skirts? Not good to hear, hope your alright...
-
Classy? Since when was EFI classy? It's all boring little sensors and a speghetti of wires and stuff :) Classy is a nice set of big carbies :blinks:
-
But why on earth would you pay $700+postage from NZ for a second hand 4K-E when for that price you can get a secondhand 4A-G? I suppose if you REALLY wanted to stick with the K engine then... Even then I think it'd be more worthwhile to go with a 5K. Or, for that price - even a 7K-E.
-
Already??? Geez stories go around really quick don't they? :blinks: *ps* I wonder what the stories are about this time... :)

Nick: Ta for that, let me know how you go. As it stands I'm not 100% sure I should trust myself with painting the car, although with supervision I'd probably go okay. Rob: Assuming I find someone to paint (and I get the rest of the car primed and ready to go - I hope it doesn't rain next weekend), want to make it tentatively 15th/16th? Mel's awesome 1600: And this KE20 too (Peter and Ryan Moll's), this thing was awesome today!
-
If Rob does not know why, then HOW? :D Motorkhana was a blast, that Melinda girl can really drive :blinks: She came in 4th outright. I had a blast, learnt how to use the handbrake which was heaps fun, came in umm... 17th outright, I think 3rd (?) in class (I think...) Out of a school of 37 cars, 10 in the BR class. I'm happy with that considering I stuffed the first 2 up and after the first 2 tests I was in 35th place or somewhere down there. We only did 7 tests in all. I will be back :) Pinky failed scrutineering first go as usual, I need to fix that rocker breather hose... Maybe vent it to a bottle or something.
-
Next weekend I *think* I will be priming the 35, but well depending on my timeline I might come out for a bit if people will be working on cars :blinks: Rob - motorkhanas - should I advance my timing a bit to get a bit more low down torque (and sacrifice top end)?
-
Well, was going to finish priming the car this weekend but forecasts say it's going to rain lots so went and rented an engine hoist instead. Engine is now in, tomorrow I'll weld the mounts on (at the moment they're just sitting there): I'll most definately have the car completely primed by end of next weekend. How long does it take to paint a car (considering priming pretty much complete)? I'm guessing (from reading book and calculating drying and sanding times) 1 full day should be enough? If so, assuming I can get someone to paint the car, would 2nd work for you Rob? If not, maybe 15th/16th? Is that enough notice for you Nick? Like I said I'm happy to rent a spray booth (so that sorts out space + compressor I think). Else if Rob doesn't mind driving all the way out there... Argh, too much to think about! Hehe.. Mel is driving the Dwarf? How did that happen? :blinks: What's wrong with Datto?
-
Well I'm priming the car myself, so far about 75% of the car is primed. If I'm really hardworking I might even guide coat it. I should be able to organise transport for the car (rob?), your dads place is a fair hike away though - if necessary I can rent a spray booth closer by - if you're willing to travel. I think spray booth hire usually comes with compressor, I have a spray gun (albeit not a flash one at all, but it works). I'm hoping to get the car painted within the next 2 or 3 weeks, the car should be completely primed by the end of this weekend. Reason I'm pushing time a bit is cause that's the main thing that's holding up the progress of the 35 at the moment - paint. Unfortunately 2-3 weeks isn't exactly "heaps" of time in advance though...
