  1. Seen the drums on Pinky lately?
  2. Aren't the wagon drums the same as KE55 drums? I know they're heaps bigger than the KE35 ones, didn't think they were that big...
  3. I think the only word in my vocabulary the entire time I was in the Dwarf was, in the tone of Neo from the Matrix - "Woah..." :D
  4. Grim: I wouldn't mind some 15's if I could find some that fit at the right price, but I don't mind 14's. 14" tyres are cheap(er) :D
  5. Pinky brakes from 100km/h WAAAAY faster than it accelerates to it, and I suspect Hal will too :D
  6. Yes, 14" rims. I have about 1mm between caliper and wheel spoke, and about 1mm between disc and control arm (which I've been told is not enough as the disc will actually flex that 1mm and get carved up by the control arm... oh well...)
  7. The Escort was a mean machine, the Dwarf is an awesome little beast... I must say, the K motor, while not exactly being my favourite block of iron (probably because mine is so crummy...) sounds awesome up there in the 7000RPM region :D Not to mention Robs awesome pedalling of the Dwarf, I have learnt a new meaning for R-E-S-T-C-P (Respect :D) :D If you can pedal the Dwarf that swiftly through the forest, I really can't wait to see what you'll do with the Zed... But for now, "ooh aah rally car" is all I can think of...
  8. The brakes are finally on the car!!! Now all that is left to do to finish the brake system is to make the lines to hook up the master cylinder... Mmm, big brakes :D More photos on my photo page
  9. Ruts: You will find that most 4AGE setups are east-west. There were very few RWD cars that came with the 4AGE (mostly AE86 etc), not counting the MR2 because the MR2 has basically got a FWD setup, but behind the driver instead. This is what a friend of mine is doing with his DIY sports car, with a silvertop 4AGE. Contrary to popular belief, drum brakes aren't weaker than disc brakes. In fact, in some cases (and I stress the "some" because disc brake technology has come a LONG way) drum brakes offer greater stopping power than discs. The main problem with drum brakes is the heat and gas, as they cannot dissipate heat anywhere near as quickly as discs, and tend to develop envelopes of gas around the shoes, making braking rather ineffective. At the end of the day, it is up to you what you would like to do, and what your engineer sees as appropriate. I have seen cars with ridiculously powerful engines and tiny stock brakes, in my eyes I see them as moving coffins. But that is just me, and obviously some other people see differently. At the end of the day, it is up to you.
  10. What, a datsun owner on a toyota forum? Never! :D Go Datgirl! You continue to amaze me... :D
  11. I must say, with the help of datgirl, dwarf and friends, i'm being very slowly pried from the clutching hands of bitumen...
  12. Here is more of the very awesome Redwarf: And yet more fun: http://fookseung.fotki.com/automotive-1/tr..._kennedy_rally/

Teddy: seeing as you can't make the 7th, I'd say cross that one off. After all, you're organising it, I'm sure you want to go too. I can't make this weekend (6-8), can't make 28th (motorkhana - QMS1 on 29th, don't want to be out late)
  14. Ruts: I so don't understand what you are asking... Nick: small port 4AGE doesn't have TVIS.
  15. Brasso. Works wonders polishing plastic too...
  16. Did they? Hmm, well maybe I'm wrong then. I always thought the early KE70's came with steering box...

We usually take the 45 minute session but I'm open to suggestions. I recon any shorter than that makes the trip all the way out there not as worth it. I'd like to come, it would have to depend when it is before I can say yay or nay. I recon it'd be easier for you to pick out a few dates that suit you (doesn't have to be a weekend as far as I'm concerned - but nighttime is good) and then we can say yes or no to the dates...
  18. Yes. Plus AE71 has fun things like rack & pinion where's most KE70's didn't... (I think the late ones had?)

If Teddy would like to organise it all I don't mind :D Here's a starter: Ipswitch Kart Hire 07 54673147
  20. It's rather hard to get the A-K bellhousing, if you know of where one is available I have a friend who would be rather interested to know...
  21. No idea... But... why would you bother?
  22. Darn it Rob, can't you let us be good at something too??? :D
  23. Penguin: 555.1 :D
  24. mumblezzz: those extractors are yours if you want them, the other guy got some other ones...
  25. 4AGE exhaust exits passenger side, same with 4K. 4AC exhaust exits on drivers side. Because of this, obviously they will not bolt up. So you will need at least some of a new exhaust... But you might as well get a whole new one cause the old one would probably be a bit on the small side (going from a 1.3 to a 1.6). Few other small things? If I remembered or could think of it I would list them out. You'll figure it out when you do the conversion, shouldn't be anything major, shouldn't cost too much. Clutch setup - Nick should know more about this - you might want to use the AE71 pedalbox too as it's already setup for the hydrolic system. Or you can do what I did and modify the existing setup. Hydrolic vs cable: Does it make much difference? Not as far as I can tell. But the T50 is hydrolic, so you will have to switch to hydrolic. Virtually all newer cars use it, so it can't be a bad thing.
