All Jap Day Brisbane 5Th June 2016
ATOYOTA replied to Undertaker_is_the_best's topic in QLD / Brisbane
I definitely won't be attending now :sob: Just blew the brand new head gasket I put in the thing. I suspect it's because I punched out two holes in it for water jackets and fvcked it in the process. So devastated. Oh well, maybe I'll try for the next one where not just the classics are welcome. -
A brand new, genuine Toyota one will set me back $135. It's the only one on Ebay anyway and I just can't be arsed looking elsewhere. Although I'm kinda willing to pay that kind of dosh for a genuine article, it really doesn't matter at all. It's just the whole renewing mentality I have. What do you want for yours?
-
It's got the intake on the left side of the bay, yes. That's one reason why I want it, the other is that the old one is frayed. So is it still too short for a 4A-G or similar?

I'm staring down the barrel of an Ebay item, one AE86 throttle cable, and I'm curious as to whether it's a bolt in job for a KE70. I'm only really interested in the pedal end of things, but tell me what you know! Ta!

Haven't been on an RC cruise since Toowoomba! Depending where we go I'd be down for it.

Just got mine back on the road for the first time after replacing the blown head gasket. It's got a faint tackity tackity sound (exhaust leak maybe, dunno) but otherwise is pretty good. At this stage I'm attending but as with modified cars... -

I don't think you have to worry about that. Last year some bloke in his Mazda made spaghetti all over the oval and no one punched him in the face, so I doubt you'll top that. Besides, I saw more than plenty of -25 cars there past time 'round. -

Second that, provided mine's fully functioning & fully sik in time. -
I'm probably gonna get shat on for this, but I'd take the opportunity to go out and get some new wheels. Wire wheel and sand as much as you can, spray, then sell them for as much as you can.

Are there any perks of being an official club, other than slightly cheaper rego?
-
"Applications must be accompanied by a Historic Vehicle Declaration and signed by a club official stating they are a financial member of a Roads and Maritime Services-recognised historic vehicle club. Vehicles can only be used for authorised club events or for servicing or inspection." This is what I've been asking about. I don't think 'Rollaclub' is an official 'club' per se. I wonder what it would take for the admins to officially register RC as a club. It would be a great idea if it was possible and financially viable.

Super Newb Here But Happy To Be Here.

Or do what the kool kids do and flip them. I saw an AE71 once where the guy had cut the springs so short it was sitting on bump stops. Hey I have an idea! Forget the springs altogether and just weld the bump stops to each other! -

We use Makita lowering kits to make our cars look good. It'll drive like a completely different car when you drop coilovers in, you'll be amazed. -
That's going on my signature.

In that case I think I'll change my name to 'The Legend'.

It's really got me thinking actually! I was just gonna go down the quadlights path but this is such a better idea! I might scour a wrecker and then take the bits to a plastic welder. there's a guy on the forums here who does that, I wonder where he's located..
-
:o Absolutely LOVING the headlight grille! Why on earth would you wanna take it off?? It's got me thinking now... what would it look like on a KE70.......?
-
It depends how old a car you're looking for. KE70's are the last of the 'classical' era, and you can still get parts by the bucketload for them. You'll also find that lots of bits interchange between many Toyotas, so if you're wise you'll never really have that sort of problem. It depends on the bits you'd be looking for, anyway. Old Corollas run K engines, some run T and A but they're much rarer. If it's engine parts you're after you'll never find a shortage of 4K componentry. The same can be said about 4A, but not so much 2T. 4Ks are as reliable as the sun, so as long as you don't go to town on them with mods, and you service it regularly, it'll last forever practically. As for panelwork, I've heard there's a company or two in the far corners of internetland that make panels for the old girls, but they've had problems with fitment. In any case, all the panels (minus bumpers) are steel so if you do need work done all you need is a grinder, welder, bog, paint, and a lot of patience. Suspension is a piece of piss for KE70s (can't say much about the even earlier Rollas because I don't have one of those sitting in my carport). Upgrades include XT130 Corona, AE86, S13, and I'm sure there are others. Don't know much about Coronas, but apparently there's cutting & welding of strut tubes involved. Aftermarket companies make AE86 and S13 suspension and they're common as all buggery, so you can pick a set up pretty cheaply and easily. I have AE86 suspension front & rear, and it's a direct bolt-in job (if you have AE86 rotors, calipers, brackets, steering arms etc. to go with them), and a great upgrade. Not sure about what needs to be done to fit S13 gear. You can find interior bits here and there, but a lot of that you can fix up or fabricate yourself. Hope this helps.
-
I painted all my interior bits too, one of the best things I ever did (next to buying an air freshener to mask the musty smell of the 80's). I think it's the most effective way of sprucing up your old rolla because you see it every time you drive! Great thread by the way. You must be some dad to stick with this for almost two years! Without my dad's help I'd be stuffed. He's taught me a lot, and spent a lot of his time working with me to fix all my problems that would otherwise be WAAAYY over my head to even attempt to look at.

That sounds like a challenge.. I sure hope I can make it this time, car's got a runny nose and I've just blown the POS Nissan alternator. I think you guys will like what I've done to the old girl. -

Man I wouldn't have a clue. I only met him the day of the cruise and haven't seen him since. Have you tried PMing him? Would be pretty cool driving around in a 2T though.. -

I could bring an esky and whatnot again, somewhat resembling the gear I brought last time. How much meat can you eat? -

Provided I fix the oil leak in time, I will be attending. So excited! I've been hanging out for months and months for the next cruise/meet, seeing as I've missed the last few. Fvcking bullshit about the breatho Reed, if you wind up losing your licence and need a ride on the day I'll happily oblige.
