went to Kmart and got an extingusher today. the $30 Kmart 1kg fire extinguisher isn't a Chubb. it is a Fireater brand. looks identical to the Chubb/Quell branded one that was $47. it does come with a metal bracket. not sure where i will mount it. maybe under the front of the passenger seat. don't really want to put it in the back of my car for the fear of my curious boys playing with it and setting it off, not to mention standing on it. it has the fill date stamped on the bottom. how often are they supposed to be checked by cams??? have had an extinguisher go off once in the back of my car years ago. was a cheap supercheap one. someone stood on the end and cracked it. what a mess, white shit everywhere. i dragged it out and threw it on the ground where it happened, it killed the grass of this guys front yard. took ages to grow back, he wasn't happy.

if you put a reground cam in an engine with hydraulic lifters, or shave the head to any extent it will stuff up your lifter preload, and valve clearances. you need to shave the bottom of the rocker pedestals to account for the reduction in the cam base circle diameter and also the amount shaved off the head.

really what is the point of rushing these things when you miss things and have to do it all over again? not so bad if you are just pulling an engine from a wreck. or maybe if you have to in a rally situation with time limits. i've rushed a clutch change in the past and found weird noises when i went to operate the car. turned out i put the clutch plate in back to front and it was rubbing on the flywheel bolts. wasn't to happy with myself having to do it again. learnt a valuable lesson. these days, i'd rather take my time doing an engine change. at least i know then the car will start first go, because i haven't missed something stupid. a ke1x with extractors slows things down, due to space constraints, compared to later cars. you don't pull the motor and box separately, takes waaaayyyy longer.
-
looks much like the way the cables are normally setup on a pushbike. how stiff is your acelerator pedal with the 2 big springs? are there also return springs on the carbs themselves?
-
can't understand anyone wanting to stuff a 4ag into a ke1x series. would be a major pain in the ass to work on. go well though.

have pulled a motor and box out separately from a ke20 in under 10 mins. was 4 of us, we rolled it on it's side, dropped tailshaft undid gbox bolts. the box was stubborn to separate, so i shook the shit out of it and it came away in my hands, and at the same time the engine mounts broke and the engine fell out onto the ground. was so funny, hahaha.

if you want instant street cred, go buy a bottle of white shoe paint and put a number on your rear side window. everyone will want to try and race you. very cheap mod. missus drove my car to work this morning, still had numbers on from saturday night. she said she has never been hassled so much before. all the young blokes were trying to get her to race. she even had some young bloke behind her in a pulsar with his shift light flashing all the time, took her a while to work out what it was. she stopped at a servo and washed the numbers off, not liking the attention. hahaha.
-
missus reckons they look like weather shields. haha.

haha, teddy i agree totally. yours looks a million times nicer.

should have put all that time, money and effort into the driveline, suspension and brakes. add a set of nice wheels and good tyres and it would be a heaps better car. priorities, and taste way wrong.

yea, i think with the carb a bit better setup there is more to be had. i just recently increased the secondary venturi from a 25 to a 27, and i think it was a step backwards. the car doesn't pull as hard in the upper rev region like it did, which really hurt it in the second half of the track. i was pulling 10.8 sec for the 1/8 mile, which should equate to around a mid 16 for the full 1/4. best 60 ft was 2.38 sec, which is quicker than 2 mid 16s cars i ran. need to get my O2 sensor setup so i can monitor mixtures and see where i'm going wrong. didn't get my first timeslip it got blown away. was mega windy, having a headwind probably didn't help anyones times. times went, from 2nd run: 17.63 17.52 17.60 18.23 17.35 17.38 17.26 17.21 17.28 fairly consistant. found reducing timing to 8 degs, made it a little quicker, which is what the last 5 runs were set at. i'll have a bit of a play around with things and try to get back out there again soon.

went out and had a run tonight. best was a 17.209 @ 75.74 MPH. guess it's not to bad for a 3 year old $350 4k, that's had a lot of hard work. also that was full street trim, ie tools, spare etc. probably could have stripped 30 odd kg out of it. was the first time i have ever had a go at the drags. on my first run i was beside this spastic big block cheved monaro. i couldn't even hear my car with this thing idling beside me. was a pretty wild first up intro to drag racing. needless to say he disappeared off into the distance. i need way more power. the only thing i beat all night was a suzuki swift which i wasted by 2 secs. it is fun doing burnouts in front of a crowd. the funniest run was the last i did. was beside this charger, and we both got pretty even reaction times, him a little quicker. i beat him through first and part way through second. he obviously pushed his car a little hard to soon, trying to get back in front, as he started blowing masses of smoke. he pulled away in the topend to beat me by nearly 2 secs, but geez, i've never seen so much smoke in my life. on the return road his car just stopped, he blew it up. it was a mega oil down, so racing had to stop. haha, he may have won the race, but i drive home. i got like 10 runs in from 4.30 - 8.00 when the charger did the oil down. thought i'd just call it quits as i couldn't be bothered waiting at least 1/2 hour for them to clean the track. was a pretty fun night. have a baseline now.

got a helmet today :D tomorrow night is looking good.

that's a real neat setup, the lines are so neat compared to other hydro setup i've seen. be easy to bleed out air from the system. no high spots for it to sit. i'm toying with the idea of an upright hydro setup, next to the gear stick. set it up as a push forward setup, and have a removable handle. i could then mount the m/cyl at the front of the tunnel and don't really have to worry about losing space to the rear seat, and having kids trampling on brake lines. strictly for weekend motorsport fun only.

yea teddy, but make it a 3T. rape a rusty T18 of it's driveline for starters. low 14's NA http://www.paradiseracing.com/news.html 8.07 @ 161 MPH turbo haltech and NOS in a starlet http://go.to/puertorico go to the 4 cyl link. who needs twincams. pushrod power.
-
i've got a '68 ke15 with healthy 4k. see what a bit of carbed pushrod technology can do. my mate should be taking out his monster port RX3. he wants to get it sorted before jamboree.

hey, could be. going helmet shopping tomorrow. :D

thanks fook. very interested, see how i go.

yea, but some of our cars are daily drivers.

ae86s run the same wheel bearings (kit no. TJ114A) as some earlier corollas. other vehicles sharing same wheel bearing kit: celica 4/74-11/77 corolla/T-18 74-83 AE RWD 83-86 sprinter, van and all AE71 *it says AE RWD 83-85 sedan & wagon Excluding AE71 run TJ119, so something is different there. above from CBC wheel bearing catalog remember ke70s have different backing plate bolt patterns to ke55 and earlier. the backing plates are possibly the same for ke70/ae86.

had a look on the cams website. would you need the following?: Compulsory vehicle and safety requirements include: + A secondary bonnet restraining device + A fire extinguisher + A blue triangle indicating the position of the battery + Headlights covered with a transparent adhesive film (i.e. Contact)

http://www.rallyscene.com/cms/A_20176/article.html i thought the above was interesting, they have used a hydro / mech handbrake in parallel. simplifies things, needing only one lever and satisfies legal requirements. no pics though.

possibly, need helmet and extinguisher first. do you enter on the day?
