george i think his name is.. ive also found you can't just go in for a look when he's around. he asks you what your after, usually responds with "nah don't have any of them" and then stares you down till you leave. andy was awesome, but just directs all sales to george now.

at 14mm out it should be driving heaps better, not just a bit ;)

bluetop 4age's came with 18mm gudgeon, everything after came with 20mm gudgeons. as far as turboing is concerned. if you want off the shelf forged pistons its very hard to get for bluetops. i think wiseco list them, but no one else i know of does them off the shelf. iirc your better off using the 4age rods aswell. the redtop rods are reputed to handle 200+rwkw and 8000+rpm prepped properly, I'm pretty sure their longer than K rods aswell?

+1 for wheel alignment. on ae82's, the castor is introduced/reduced by spinning the spring tops 180 degrees. so the tops will be sitting hard up on either the front or the back of the strut tower. for starters id make sure they're at the same point both sides, although depending on a number of factors, they may need to be switched around to suit.. only by getting an alignment will you know. now on the stub axles, where they bolt up to the lower part of the strut, theres a little eccentric on the top bolt. did you mark these and line them back up? thats where the camber is altered. the way you described it sounds very similar to how my car was running on GOR-09. i chewed out a brand new set of falkens down to canvas in 3 weeks.. so think about doing it sooner than later!

i was there also this year. was very well run by BCC. had a great mix of cars there aswell. from falcon wagons, to 500+hp mustangs, and almost everything in between. corys car -looks- very easy to drift, and always does really good at events. awesome to watch. that R32 suprised me though. thought it was gonna be a slug! uploaded vids of the event atm.. will post soon

yay for parties! :blinks:

i don't know of any personally. however it might be worth looking into westfields/clubmans etc. they have been powered by just about everything over the years. also look into overseas sierras and see if they came in a 2wd version somewhere?

i think it would almost be easier buying a rolled suzuki sierra, strip the drivetrain outta the rolla, weld some body mounts, make it steer, mod the wiring etc.

you will also need pajero/triton inlet and exhaust manifolds

Ke70 Panno/wagon Spring Rearend Conversion.
MRMOPARMAN replied to h1_roll4's topic in KExx Corolla Discussion
leaf springs are very underrated imo. the trick is to let them control springing only, not diff locating. probably not worth converting the whole rear end to coil spring, but use bits of one, for making control arm points on the body, and panhard rod locator on the body. you could use a sedan diff, but cut off the coil mounts and weld on the leaf pad mounts, then use the sedan control arms and panhard rod. that way you have the best of both worlds.. a better located rear end, and adjustable spring rates (by adding/removing leafs) -
Can Someone Cut My Springs Pleaseee!!!!
MRMOPARMAN replied to drift-kidd's topic in KExx Corolla Discussion
also, by the time you fart around paying someone to do an illegal mod.. you could have spent the same or not much more buying a hacksaw or angle grinder from bunnings and done it yourself. -
i just reread my post post.. id does sound a little harsh. my appologies. that not how it was intended. but my point still stands, re: process of emimination. remember, we've never met one another, so i have no idea what sort of skills you have. also on your first post you stated it did have working ignition. ae101 ecu pinouts heres a list of pinouts for the ecu if you need to do a continuity check. if you find you have a wiring problem (poor connection, break in wire etc) it can help by wiggling the loom around whilst trying to start the car. sometimes you can pin point an approximate area where the wire is broken by doing this. saves alot of time only having to strip down one area of loom, instead of an entire length.

maybe we could all camp out in the back of the AP5?

your not serious are you? its now the perfect time to work out whats not working BECAUSE its not going! like trev said, do a diagnositc check (search on how to do it). also go back to basics. do you have spark? do you have fuel? does it have compression? are all the timing marks lined up and so on..

yep thats right, heavy cars alone don't usually kill them, nor really light cars that are thrashed. its only when you combine the 2 that they flog out real quick. my favorite place to get LSD's from is fairlanes  the old farts never drive above 50kmh so their usually in top nick even after 300,000+km

they've all been on datsuns that ive seen (my club was heavily datsun based). springs would break and go through the diff, spiders and pins would pop out aswell (last 2 may or may not be related to the phantom grip).. however this was all on dirt. in this case, the spring locker is completely different to the cone type LSD's used on borg warners. if you read the link to the tread provided above, you'd see their a different sort of 'phantom grip'. and while we're on cone lsds. they're not all shit like everyone seems to think they are. they work well, provided they arent thrashed constantly, the oils changed regularly - with the right type ofcourse. they can be easily adjusted too. only problem is you can only get them for borgwarner 75/78's. corollas use a smaller type aptly named the 'baby borgwarner', and hence, they don't fit. the problem with all these phantom grip type additions, they work well for a little while, but due to their inherent design (ie metal on metal, rubbing under pressure) they wear out much quicker than a normal LSD. the more you can get them to LSD, the longer then will suvive. this is why they wear out so quickly on the street. high levels of grip, and no burnouts etc allowed. so they are wearing with every turn. this is also why they last much longer on dirt racing. to be honest, i think the best and cheapest option until you can afford a proper diff conversion is to either 1. have a 2nd welded diff, and just swap it over the day before the race meet. you will get so good at it the more you do it, you'll be able to swap diffs in 1/2 an hour or less. 2. weld the diff and put up with it. 3. make your car race only and weld it. locking the diff properly is worth a fair bit of time imo. very good bang for buck mod!

yeah it could be the computer, but at this stage it could be a multitude of things. best thing to do is work out what ISNT working, when it starts playing up, and then diagnose whats going on with whatevers not working.

or maybe an S13/R32 one make class?
-
talk to some gemini racers.. the series hasnt been going on that long.. and some parts are getting really hard to get. which then drives the value of said parts up etc etc. the same thing will happen to corollas. especially when their values are starting to increase and parts are getting harder to get WITHOUT a rally series. what youd wanna start with is an AE82/92 class. preferably excluding 4age engines. no one cares if you cull 90% of ae82 production. cars are cheap as chips to get (my last one cost $150, the one before was free). theres a multitude of stuff you can do to them to make em quick. thats the go.

something i like to do (at all meets, not just hillclimbs) is to go around and have a chat to the old fogies/more experienced drivers and try to get tips off them. works very well unless you get a cranky/sheep station racer.
-
they ran toyoglides into early ke30's aswell. had my stocker ke25 (with toyoglide and sunvisor) up to 95mph on the speedo. took ages to get there and i had to draft an RA23 celica on a downhill section (of a racetrack :D ) to do it
-
yeah 'phantom grip' is what you'd be after.. seen quite a few of them at race meets fail. and when they fail, they take the rest of the diff with it. and that was on dirt.. sounds like its time for a diff conversion. ive never heard of LSD's for baby borgwarners.

bugger potentially stuffing your back for the sake of a couple of bucks. either hire a crane or buy a cheapie
