$1500 to $2000 for a very tidy car with a/c and p/s. they tend to rust around the hatch and the mudgaurd lip area. make sure you get one with a known service history. they tend to corrode heads and blow headgaskets if the car hasnt had proper coolant changes. check for a smokey engine, get someone to watch you drive off, as they can blow smoke at different times. make sure the gearbox shift smoothly and doesnt hold gearchanges, or slip into gears. check the fluid condition.. it should be red, not brown and burnt smelling. look for one that hasnt been stuffed with in the interior (stereo's etc) as the interior plastics are quite brittle and alot of people crack the plastic when modding it or overtightening the screws. ask to take said car to pedders for a 28 point safety check. that will giive you an idea of what the suspension and steering etc is like. look for oil leaks too. basicly their a 20 year old car, and all the usual stuff applies to them as any other vehicle.. its all wear and tear.

nice car, bet it goes well! does ballarat run multiclub events at all? I'm in the bendigo car club, but i live closer to ballarat and kyneton now, so wouldnt mind getting out and racing a few of those tracks.. I'm suprised ballarat and bendigo arent friendly clubs aleady actually. so whats your best time on autocross at the various tracks you've raced?

Which Is Better For Khanacross??? 3k Or 4k
MRMOPARMAN replied to Mighty tas rolla's topic in General Mechanical
all the K engines are quite bullet proof as far as engines go. so go the 4k for a bit of extra capacity. or if you can get your hands on a 5k, definately get that. improvements all depend on how much you want to spend.. first of all, put extractors and a better exhaust on it. get a better carburation system, aim for a single or duel 40mm webbers/dellortos.. or if your handy with a spanner, nut out a cheapo efi system for it. efi rocks |blink| if funds still permit, get a mild camshaft and a new timing chain. don't overdo the cam, as you want as much low/midrange torque as possible. high end screamers with nothing down low are useless for khanacross/autocross/motorkhana etc. so how much do you wanna spend.. oh and what sort of car.. 2tg/4age makes much more sense for racing if you have the cash. -
that was absolutely brilliant ben, hope ya get the job.. ps, if ya need a bloke to play the stig, I'm your man ;)

small races (eg motorkhana, khanacross, autocross etc) as roughly $20-50 to enter, large races eg rally's, circuit sprints, reglularity trials generally start at $120 and go up to multi thousands for targa events. the licence i use is an L2S, which i think is about $85 per year. so its very good bang for your buck racing! to compare my house mate races a 1.6l hydroplane race boat. it costs him $500 for a licence per year, and $120ish per race. add to the fact theres very few places to race boats these days! theres nearly 100 tracks in vic alone to race.

sorry mate, wouldnt have a clue. all i know is louis schofield owned it before the owner before me, and he spent a overrated getting the conversion done at fours & more automotive repairs, at pooraka SA.

yep dex 3 is the stuff to use, however corolla gearboxes really arent that picky, as long as its auto fluid it will love you for it. I'm currently running mercedes auto fluid in mine. i don't recommend it though as its more than $100 a bottle

i bought the whole lot as is, all ive really done is bought a few different sets of tyres, and rebuilt the engine to stock specs. will be playing with the suspension real soon though. the rack mounts are welded onto a ke25 crossmember. they really need re-enforcing as it flexes a bit on the ground. having said that it shits all over the factory recirc ball setup. uses ae71 rack, and steering column.

howdy guys, this has been a long time coming, but updates have been so few and far between i couldnt be bothered starting one. but today is a slow sunday so.... bit of a background.. bout 4 years ago i bought an AE92sx with silvertop cheap that had been smashed in the side.. was going to rebody it, but couldnt find a good body cheap enough to make it happen. then a bloke from castlemaine offered to swap me the AE92 for a KE25 with 4age.. so i snatched it. as i bought it: 1973 ke25 corolla stock standard JDM AE86 bluetop 4age JDM t50 5 speed gearbox KE55 4.1 open baby borg warner diff AE71 rack and pinion steering column etc etc TA22 celica front struts and brakes 3 sets of tyres, 13x6 globes with aussports, 13x6 hotwires? with road tyres, and various steelies with whatever shit i can get from work some shitty race seats that i hate started racing autocross, khanacross, a bit of oval and motorkhanas with varying results. everyone that drives it finds in near impossible to keep straight, you have to be real careful goin sideways through corners, as it either pushes you to the outside of the track, in the marbles, its slow, or it sends ya 180. goes great in a straight line though. bought some ausport rally tyres for it, which helped in a straight line, but still handled bad. also brakes are shit. did that till late 06, where i entered a 6hr regularity relay trial at winton with some fellow toymodders. before the race, i lost my brake pedal. checked the brakes, found a pad had cocked sideways on its mount. checked it and it was bent! and part of the pad material had broken away. couldnt do anything but put it back together. the car did great all weekend, apart from melting my road tyres, but 1/2 way through my stint the car got REAL hot, and i fuxed the big ends and a few mains. i think it happened either coz the oil boiled with the coolant, or maybe it starved, as there was a dirty big dent in the sump roughly where the pickup is. i was doin a hard long l/h turn at the time. pulled it apart to do a quick reringer etc. but found one of the grub screws from my throttle body had gone through no4, and stuffed the piston and head, and made no4 bore out of specs, aswell as the stuffed crank/rods from the race. reco'd the head, sourced another bottom end which i rebuilt, slapped it back together with another throttle body and she was good to go, mind you a year had passed and i had 3 weeks to prepare the car for the '07 6 hour at winton. while the engine was out i had started on the body and lost interest (the body is f@$ked royale). so with many thanks to a mate ian, with 2 days to go before the race he roughed it up and sprayed it in primer. didnt have time for colour. i also bought some used formula ford slicks for the race too while i was at it found out why it was overheating. my engine was f@$ked, my thermo was infront of the radiator, and the previous owner had set it up to blow air back out the front! fixed that and its all good now. so went to winton, and had constant fueling (and fuel leakage) issues. replaced the lift pump and pressure pump, tried blocking off the inlet, but to no avail. the event was a failure. (photos to come here) came back, replaced the tank with one from one of my other ke25's, replaced the fuel filter and got a cap from pick a part, did a fun day and now shes all sweet. at the latest fun day, i was able to keep up with a wrx, and left quite a few better cars for dead, so i was stoked. a guy in an R32 came up to me later asking about it, saying he was trying to keep up but couldnt  best time at winton: 1.50.9 as it stands:

what id be doing, is going to your local self serve wreckers, finding the same model as yours, and strip that dash for all its nuts and bolts. take pictures as you go just in case you forget, then you will have all the bolts/nuts/screws you need, and know exactly where they go
-
actually yes i was, many moons ago! howd you know bout that? i still lurk there occasionally, but got into toyotas in a big way when i got my KE25 so hows the hunt going?
-
get the last of the ae71's fitted with a 4ac and 5 speed. then you will have the right crossmember and gearbox for the job. rust places? they rust anywhere and everywhere. check fuel filler recess, around bootlid, roof around the C pillars, doors, rear of front fenders, behind rear wheels, bootlid etc etc.
-
i do actually. got a set of pacemaker extractors before pacemaker turned to shit. only had 3 or so months of useage. they look shit (blue paint has rusted slightly) but should be near perfect. i had a flange welded on the back too! but to get into them crazy 17's, your gunna need noz. 2 of the big ones!

Hilux Diff Disk Brake Kit, Where From? How Much? Sydney
MRMOPARMAN replied to HIGH ROLLER's topic in General Mechanical
theres a big thread on toymods.net atm, people are doing group buys on some custom caliper brakets, then you slightly mod the backing plates of an MZ20/MA70 and use the discs and calipers off em aswell. gives ya large diameter vented discs and internal drum handbrake. good calipers too. just got myself a set of mz20 rear end components for mine actually :jamie: http://www.toymods.net/forums/showthread.php?t=18913 -
if ya need a hand jarrad you know my number :jamie:

i have a ke55 diff in my ke25, to fit 13x6's i had to lip the rear gaurds. not sure what width ke55 diffs are unfortunately.
-
ive done it a few times. for a short period of time it will be ok, however it will be hard to shift gears. do it to go grab some better oil and thats it. do you have auto trans fluid lying around? that will go much better in the gearbox than diff oil
-
i prefer to call myself a 'diagnostic technician'... short for mechanic lolz or a wrecker, coz I'm pretty good a wrecking things :hmm:
-
sps in melbourne would probably have something your after.. talk to kickin5k on this forum
-
so what would everyone say if i added this to toymods and some maybe some other toyota sites.. see if we can get a whole mega gathering happening?
-
yup, what ae70 said. if it was a headgasket 98% of the time the hoses will be pressurised while still cold soon after first start up
-
and would only be 3 times the wieght and be unregoable
-
hmm thats weird. sounds like either a dodgey/wrong sensor or the cooling system has airlocks in it
-
are you sure your getting it hot enough for the fans to turn on? to test i usually plug the front of the radiator with cardboard or cloth or something so it gets no airflow.. just be careful it doesnt overheat. is the new switch new or a wrecker job? is it plugged in properly? getting power to the fans? if you unplug the sender do the fans come back on?

i was plannin to have a go in breanna before then.. guess ill have to hold off and do some 'tweaking' for this occasion.. consider me there!
