  1. i can't wait to link to this thread next time some kind of e-argument comes up about twin cam rotors or electric superchargers hahaha. nah, just kidding. this forum rarely exhibits the typical 2 bit experts seen on the broader internet.
  2. mate half the dickheads lecturing seem to subscribe to that school of thought.
  3. 96. Damnit. 20000 grand on a degree and I can't even get 100%. I wonder what the two i guffed are? probably the electronics questions, after all i did mech eng ....
  4. hmmm most photos just make the car look good clean and straight. in that photo though, it looks rough as. As far as value goes, keep this in mind: I paid 4k for an immaculate Aus spec 4AC sprinter in 2001. Clean throughout, except for a small dent on the front quarter, no rust etc. I drove it for 2.5 years, kept it clean and didnt butcher it and I sold if for 4k. Undoubtedly, their value is holding, but I would only pay that much for a schmicko one like mine was. shmicko. and, if you do buy one that schmicko - you wont want to chop it up and drift it.
  5. Reverse eyelets. Just take the top leaf out, take them to a spring joint and reverse the eyelets. This way you keep the spring rate (which you REDUCE when you flip leaves) and you should be able to work out quite easily how much lower it will be. With the bump stops, reality is, if a cop sees you're half an inch from the bumpys, he'll defect you. Simple.
  6. Pffffffffffffft! should read " the more you haunt the forums the larger your collection of disinformation will become" haha. Actually, to tell the truth, this is by far and away one of the best car forums for accurate information. Unlike certain nissan related forums which are full of 2 bit html experts on bullshit.
  7. lovely, thanks for that fellas. Thats all I need to know! Mods or people with powers to edit, it might be handy to ad that CR to the Table in the FAQ. (yep - I looked before I posted haha)
  8. Folks, I have a set of pistons that have been touched with with the die grinder in order to decompress a little. In order to work out my CR, I need to know the volume of the stock piston dish Does anyone have one handy they could measure, or even if you just know what it is! While i'm asking, what is the stock comp on a 5k. cheers tp (this is where the old "mate, theres 17 different piston types for 5ks" comes up....)
  9. lets not forget to cool them down as well! My old man has a truck turbine shaft that took a few too many hot shutdowns before it severed itself, and the amount of carbon buildup on it is amazing.
  10. Holts gloss black is also top stuff. I rubbed mine down with some 600 grit before I painted and it came up unreal. piss off that export crap. Holts is real nice and easy to spray. Goes on very nice. Powdercoating is all good, but I reckon you should save the effort and rattle can it, using good rattle can. .
  11. Interesting you should bring those mazda blowers into the conversation Jordan. Some of you may know Allmaz Mazda wreckers in Melbourne, the dude that runs it is a champ. Anyhow, he had one of those blowers on the bench when I went in there last and I asked if he'd sell it. Long story short he said to steer well clear of them, he said they are a dog of a thing and they constantly give trouble. thats coming from a guy whos dealt with a lot of them too.
  12. theres a ke20 getting around melbourne engineered with a 289 windsor v8 in it. I saw it in the flesh years ago, and then it popped up recently on the evilbay for 11k I think. it was a beautiful car too.
  13. that is off its head. How does that happen!
  14. Phife makes a good suggestion there - you should always run it with the cap off until the thermostat opens up, as you will just about always get a drop in water level. Also, how hot is "running hot"? ie is the car boiling? and are you losing much water over a week etc?
  15. Yeh, I always dug the 911's so I bought her recently- she's a 1978 911SC for any interested folk. The 3.0 litre. She has a few blemishes here and there but is nice and tight mechanically. Incidentally, I might split off the cruise at some point and head out to Castlemaine for the Hot Rod show if anyone is interested. (hows that for diverse taste in cars...... corollas, 911s and hotrods.....)
  16. the BP at Crafers in Adelaide used to sell 100 octane fuel. My mate loved the stuff but I've never seen it anywhere else.
  17. let me guess - ripped a nice hole in the diaphragm?
  18. its not that it weighs more that will be your issue. its that the length of your motor vs the engine bay will likely shift your centre of mass quite a way forward.
  19. yes, definitely. I've never seen a car that doesnt have an oil pressure light. Its the most rudimentary warning light employed by car makers. Some cars will have "engine", "eng" or a picture of something vaguely resembling oily gaugy things.
  20. wicked. I'm in. be cool. Seeing as my 2 speed toyoglide and stock suspension on my wags is, well, how do you say, shit for anything but traffic commuting, I think I'll bring my *ahem* 911. if noone minds of course.
  21. Have you rebushed the throttle shafts etc? From my musings, it seems that sloppy bushes (err, freudian slip?) are notorious for causing issues. Also, the other common problem they have is dashpot oil, and people using the wrong oils etc. (water, detergent, engine oil). 150 bucks on a manifold, thats a steal!
  22. The FA motor in their ae86 is pretty horn though!
  23. hmm - might have had my foot to hard on the giggle pedal I think.... seriously underrated motor, go the CA.
  24. mate, really no stress - you can keep the oil and filter! just wanna make sure I get it, and not pixelated_goat haha :P plus the sooner I get it the sooner the head goes to the head shop!
  25. my old bluey made 150(198hp)kw with a remapped comp, a good exhaust, supra cooler, not sure of the boost. unsure if it was wheel or flywheel (new owner dynoed it), but either way, thats a good start for an essentially stock motor. And it was a formidable car to drive. in a 900kg rolla, it would be much much more formidable.
