  1. Yeh, I was thinking exactly that. I just can't bring myself to hit it up with the angle grinder. But as I have no console, I sort of want my glovebox.... Having thought about it some more, I reckon I will sling it under the dash in an aluminium box. We got a brand new sheet bender at work, so I might put it to good use.
  2. My Ke16 is a burgundy/maroon colour. Factory as well. Looks pretty good.
  3. Hi there Brooke and Steve, I dropped in to petes early saturday morning just to take a look at this thing before you guys took it home. I think you might have arrived as I left in my red KE16 wagon? Car looks unreal, an absolute Top job with the paintwork and the interior. Fantastic little car, absolutely top job. Looking forward to seeing it out on the road! tp.
  4. I'm planning a similar project for the decomp'd 5k I bought off chumps a month ago. I scored a 1.75" Stromberg carb from a mazda wrecker to use as well. It had been used in a suck through turbo setup as well. Cost me 30 bucks!. Theyre everywhere, cos all the old range rover v8s came with 2 of them. Now I just gotta get a cheap enough SC! haha. Good luck with the project, I'll be keen to hear an update.
  5. If anyone has access to a lathe somewhere, (ie - sign up for a machining course at tafe) you could turn a couple of bushes up in no time.
  6. Last time I was there he had a 67 KE10 (or 69? maybe?) but he had grand plans for that I think. Alright nick, needs work. I think he'll be asking a bit for that he was commenting on the rarity of it. He had another yellowy ke10 that was in pretty good all around condition, could scrub up pretty nice. He wanted 2k for that, roadworthied etc. The publica is good - Nice straight car in mustard yellow. Give it a cut and polish and it'll come up shit hot. 2 grand also I think. I nearly considered buying that off him instead of my ke16. don't quote me on those prices. Theres also a couple of 20's getting around, and probably some 30's. His number is (03) 9544 1162. I know it off the top of my head haha!
  7. Ok - first of all, I searched for this and had no luck finding an answer etc. I am after some simple suggestions on how to fit my head unit into a KE1x dash. As is, there are two steel flanges that hold the factory stereo into place. I was thinking of just getting the old screechy saw out and cutting them out, or I could slit the flange and fold them back and use that to screw to. If anyone has some better suggestions, or they have pics of how they did it, that would be great. Before you ask - I didnt post this in the Stereo section cos I looked at all those posts in there and they are all about " how many ohms do I need to get 132dB at 241W RMS out of my double din xbox playing super solid sub box enclosure with slot ports" and so on :y: Cheers! tom.
  8. Pete is like corolla god. Incidentally, he is (and has been for 6 months) trying to clean his accrued corollas out of the place. That publica wagon is pretty neat for someone who wants a rare bit of gear. It makes my KE16 look big though! (which I bought from pete incidentally.)
  9. If you get really stuck, you could try find an engineer with too much spare time and get him to calculate it? If you know any, get chatting at the pub and see if you can pose him a challenge! haha.
  10. Home port job - Good on ya I reckon. Like Sbox said, read up as much as you can, cos there is a bit to learn about it, and give it a shot on a cheap stock head. so if you guff it and you make no extra power, who cares. If you do get lucky and it works, cool. I've thought about this before, and I reckon the k series motor is the best choice for a bit of die-grinder dabbling (along with perhaps datto L series and A series). Start small, a bit of deburring, maybe attempt matching manifolds. Small steps! If you got serious, with a bit of know how, build a little flow bench and go to town!
  11. just give scotts old auto rubber a call www.scottsoldautorubber.com.au heres the link to he actual KE10 page: KE 10 Rubber Page Prices are good too. Bailey channel for 2 doors and a weather seal strip for the door was about 50 bucks.
  12. cool. I gotta drop in to see pete and get some bits off him, so I might take a look at that thing in the flesh....
  13. Yeh, you can't see a big budget film without it now. They have been doing it since the first bond films anyway..... They just doing it less tastefully. I went straight home from the cinema and wikipedia'd Rachel Taylor. Damn, shes hot. She' done almost nothing of interest until now and BANG! Hollywood. Great to hear an aussie accent in a big film like that!
  14. ca's are top motors. I had a poxy bluebird with one and it hauled. interested to hear of the progress on this thing.
  15. far out 7.5k for that wagon. I'm glad I didnt think twice about payin 2k for mine with a roady!
  16. I'll put the list up tomorrow. Incidentally, I busted 2 of the bloody connectors getting them out of the plug. If anyone has any idea where to get replacement ones that would be tops! tp.
  17. Fair enough - doesnt help when they're muppets. The guy I go to is great, but no use if he's in melbourne for you. Cool. I wasnt sure if that was always the case or not. Last time I had a coil go it died completely. As for the points, no idea. Anyone with a workshop manual should be able to make that call.
  18. Hi all, In my musings through the site, I have been trying to compile the data on carby turbo setups. There's the ever informative 4k-c turbo post, but everytime I forget a carby name etc, I have to trawl through 16 pages to find it etc. Theres obviosuly a few tricks, and I was hoping I could get people to post concise details of their setups, so that I can type it up into a good list of components suitable for the different types of setup and perhaps we could wack it on the FAQs page? Please specify the type of setup (blow, suck), the carby type and the turbo/blower type. If you have modified a stock part to do the job (ie new floats, turbo seals) then note that down. I was thinking of a list like this Draw through Setup Carbs: .... .... .... Turbos: .... .... .... Blow through Setup Carbs: .... .... .... Turbos: .... .... .... Superchargers Cheers all, Tom.
  19. I stumbled across the answer the other day on ebay, but I can't find the ad any more - Apparently Garrett in the US build an S13 called the Disco Potato. The idea was to showcase the sort of power improvements they could get with a bolt on turbo. The car made 250kw or something similar, but it was very driveable etc etc..... So the name stuck. Pretty funny. New setup looks wicked. I'm looking out for a 5k , perhaps to boost to put in my KE16....
  20. Those plugs look alright, thats the sort of colour you should be aiming for: Black would mean too rich, and white too lean (corrections anyone?). LittleRedSpirit makes a very good point: A dodgy wire, or cracked insulation on a lead may cause a spark "leak", which would generally result in a weak spark. Pop the hood while its running in the dark and look for any sparks jumping from leads to the chassis. May also have a knackered lead - they usually are a graphite core, and if they get flexed too hard or played around with too much, they can crack internally which would affect spark. Also, perhaps the coil is on the way out, but I don't know much about how they die and the symptoms. If you can't get it nailed soon, I highly recommend seeing an Auto Elec. Last time I had an issue like this, he took a quick look at it, told me what it was and how I can fix it myself! No charge. Failing that he might charge you for an hours labour, about 60 bucks. Well worth it.
  21. they're the same size, dunno whats going on in the photo though, cos the two I had next to each other in the lounge today are the same. Mattress - funnily enough I went to swap mine just this arvo, and was wondering the same thing about wiring in the tacho line! You will need to swap about half of the loom plugs around to get the dash to work. If you want I can post up a list of what goes where tomorrow. Let me know if you have any luck with the coil wiring.
  22. Hey mate, Although you got new plugs in it, I'd pull them out and take a good look at them. ie are they black, white or brown, or are any of them clean? I used to own a CA18 turbo, and those things are notorious for shitting plugs. I used to cruise along and it would miss every now and then, then one day it started running on 3, ecspecially bad on boost etc. It was intermittent, some days bad some days good. New set of Iridium plugs (80 bucks a set!) and it was smooth as. Check them and let us know. tp.
  23. hell yeh. I just picked my new KE16 wagon up from Pete the other day. He's a treasure trove of parts as well.
