Just playing around with an old hdd. The eddy current breaking is quite significant. Using the magnets (i think there Neodymium by how strong there are?) can really slow down how fast the disk spins. Now to step it up... Order some FREE ENEREGY magnets. And some how find a large copper / aluminum disk. Any body got an old dingy and a home blast furnace?

I though about an electric generator, but then when you think about how much power your trying to get rid of (300kw + for next motor )it starts to look a little scary :D How long could he run the brake setup. The reason I'm thinking about the torque coveter is to be able to manage extended runs. I havnt seen any working diagram of an air dyno, hmmm ill look for some. But I'm trying to keep it as gehto as possible :yes:

So atm I'm planning on making a engine dryno/test bed. So I though i would share my ideas and hopefully get some input on my design. My current plan. [Motor] > [Torque converter] > [Disk break] Torque converters don't load linearly. Therefor conversion dyno maths would be hard to match it. But why bother putting it into kw or n.m? So my thoughts would be to set up an 'performance bench mark' setup of the brake. Which would measure acceleration of the motor over a set period of time or time from idle to redline. To take into account brake pad ware. Have a predetermined torque that the brakes apply to the converter. Eg 100Nm is required to turn the converter. That after every run would be reset and checked. thoughts? j. ps If you want to help :D

this will become a tow car. I'm currently just mulling over what motor I should stick in. The current 4cyl + auto is underwhelming to say the least :D I would like to go diesel but i think that would be a little to much work. I wouldnt even know were to start. My 1st though would be a commo V6, cheap and easy to get spares for. So i ask you all for suggestion for a tow motor. Cheers.

You can run all injector types off the ms :D

Speco Off the self units are around $50 if not more from the states, if you can find one to match your cable.

I'm posting this for people who may be stuck on ideas how to get there new fangdagley speedometer to work on a old car. You could go buy a converter or you could make one. This cost me $20 for the hall sensor unit. All the rest was stuff laying around. My speedo needed atleast 3000 pulses/km. A T50 gearbox speedo drive is around 700rev / km. So to stay on the safe side i cut 9 teeth into a blank of sheet metal. This is the decoder wheel. I gutted the original speedo just leaving behind the attachment for the cable. To attach the wheel onto the shaft i found a old hi-fi knob. I punched out the brass boss. The ID is a perfect fit. Same ID Knob The wheel was punched onto the boss then epoxied into place. Now all you need to do is line up the hall sensor with the decoder wheel. I used this Hall sensor unit This guy is ready to go, runs upto 18v and despite what the site says it goes hi when metal is between it. Some sheet metal and a bit of bending ive got it lined up nice. Ta Da! I can hit 40km/hr by flicking the wheel with my fingers on the lowest setting.

Well if we think of it in terms of real life experience (bad case but eh). Microwave pop corn takes about 30secs to start poping. Thats using enegery magnitudes higher then a cellphone. Unless cellphones some how hit the perfect resonance of corn or some other bullshit :P

would be easy to hide a magnatron under the table :P If this was true we would all have boiled the blood in ours brains by now. (Cellphones are around 2.4Ghz arnt they?)

Ive read reports of people running hydrogen cells (hersay...) and report of same efficiency as conventional fuels. Nothing special just a container with eletrodes. I made one ages ago with a welder as a power source and some graphite eletrodes. From what i remember, it requires more energy to break up the water molecule than what you get from the hydrogen burning. But I'm not sure of that, either that or its breaks even. IIRC the water is in its lowest energy state at that temp therefore to use it, have to raise its energy to split it up, then use the gas. So you wont break even. Now thinking of it 100% efficiency is like wow. Ive already forgotten all the thermo I lernt :P
