Yeah ok. Got the straight through muffler put on which knocked off a bit of noise, but most importantly it got rid of the raspy noise. I took another movie with some revving from behind the car...but once again its distorted. So i took some footage from the passenger door looking back towards the exhaust and it still came out distorted. I did take the car for a spin at night before muffler was put on. The mission was to see if it threw flames. I didnt spot any glows and the camera picked up nothing. So its just good for lots of loud backfires...... Its still got a nice note and is loud. So I will still be clutching in around police, but its so bad that I expect to get an EPA letter in the mail if i'm sensible. I'm yet to drive it anymore than the 15 mins home, so hopefully i'll find a reason to get out in it.

Its for that very reason that myself nor my car will be even remotely close to this event.

The bloke that ran that was a friend of the family (who i didnt have much time for). Last I heard he sold up.....do his sons still run it (think the surname was Murdoch)? They all have old hot rods. Toyrta - Mine will be back there Wednesday getting a small muffler put on, to shut it up a little.

I've used Clayton Exhaust Centre for many years. Micks normally resonable on price and does ok work. He's having a bit of a rough patch at the moment with his health, so i'm sure he'd be happy to take your money to cover some medical bills. You can see his work in my rides thread. Ignore my rants.....its before I knew what shit he was going through, which makes it all seem a bit petty now. You would have to call up and get a price. Mention that Dazz with the yellow rolla sent you and he'll look after you.

I'll pick you up. Make your arrival in Melb for peak hour. It'll make you appreciate SA all that much more. :)

Spotted a Crown for sale in Burden Park on the corner of Springvale Rd and Heatherton Rd. Identical to Tates, except it is bluey/green. Tate, if your reading this I have the phone number and a heap of pics. The only real rust spot I saw was below the rear windscreen. A few small dints and stone chips, but otherwise not too bad for its age.

I'm in. Sounds like a good drive. If we did it over a weekend, I'm not sure what type of accomodation would be available to (20-30 odd people) if camping wasnt an option.

Got it measured up just before. Looks like its going to get an 8" Redback offset muffler. We just plugged another straight through muffler with a slight bend and no baffles up the tail pipe, and it shut it up a little. The one he suggested has an offset, so you can't see light through it and it wont affect flow too much. He reckons they're alot more solid than the cheap lukey crap that was on there. So it should last for a few years considering how little I drive the car. It all happens Wednesday. The exhaust bloke mentioned the same thing about carboning up. He also mentioned it when I had my pulsar done and there was no change after a month. The rolla is off it tits, so if it did become a little more sedate it still wouldnt be enough.

I havent driven it at night yet, and i'm from the burbs. So the nearest country road is 45mins away. Theres always the tunnels here though.... I'm taking it back tommorrow arvo to get it measured up to see what muffler I can fit in there. If I get the motivation over the weekend, i'll see if i can bolt my wireless camera to the back over the exhaust somehow and go for a squirt before I quieten it down. I was halfway through uploading a vid to youtube last night and I chickened out. The footage showed a 2nd and 3rd gear run which would have been over the speedlimit. I don't want to be one of these fools that upload illegal stuff and get done for it. So i'll do another clip in a 100km/h zone (hopefully with flames) on the weekend. The footage of the exhaust tip was all distorted too, so its pointless uploading that. I talked to the exhaust bloke and he said its fine to join stainless to the mild steel. So is there a difference in noise reduction/quality between stainless and mild? Pros v's cons? The Rotaflow Resonators and Muffler that I have are Mild Steel. I want to lose some raspyness, and make it deeper.

Yeah i have to edit it. Its pretty boring though.

An old mate of mine used to work there. Ohhh the dodgey stories i heard about that place. Most of the cars had bodgy RWC's. "That car has a broken tail light. Go silicone it up and colour it in with texta." - I'm not kidding either.

Well I finally got the Rolla back this arvo. Krikey its loud. I estimate maybe 2 or 3 trips past my front gate and I will have a Yellow sticker on the windscreen. I made it a few hundred metres before I drove past the first divvy van. Instant 1st gear to 3rd where it loaded up and became even louder. >| Thens theres the raspy bark that it has over 4000rpm.....definately wasnt hoping for that note. The only good thing to come out of it is the wicked backfires it does on downshifts. No power increase that I could feel either. Well I really havent gotten stuck into it yet becasue it was peak hour and the cops can spot/hear me from a mile off. Maybe a little smoother revving and the low down flat spot has eased a little. But that could be any number of things. Some pics of the work. Not the nicest looking setup, considering the start and finish are on opposite sides it turned out well. Its tucked up as much as possible too.

Did you happen to notice if it had mags and a front splitter/lip? I regularly see one in Highett.

Raven's Ke25 Corolla Memorial Rebuild - Now Parting Out

Theres a Gearbox Guide in the tech section on Ausrotary with pics and info. There is a massive physical size difference between the two. You can fit a S1 box into your car with little or no mods. You've seen what had to be done to my tunnel to squeeze it in. EDIT - Heres the link Gearboxes - Tech Reference Early Gearbox S5 Gearbox -

Yeah Dejavu :lolcry: Mick- I wanted to go overkill from day dot, so i went with a S5T box. I didnt even bother with the earlier boxes as I heard so many bad and not so good stories about they're strength. I shortened the shifter location on my box like the majority of guys do when they slot them into the earlier RX's. In hindsight I didnt need to as I was reaching for it when shifting. So I recently replaced the gearbox with a std position shifter and its perfect. Moral of the story is.....don't shorten the shifter. I guess you can say that S1 shifter location may be further forward than you'd hope too. -
Raven's Ke25 Corolla Memorial Rebuild - Now Parting Out

The wiring is pretty straight forward. I hate ignition electrics, but I managed to wire it all up right. I did however get an auto elec in afterwards to tidy it all up and check it over. The starter is still standard, and most of my wiring was just extended to the new locations. The only wiring that really tested my patience was tapping the dash lights into the existing wiring pin locations in the dash. Is it an early model Gearbox? Nows the time to bite the bullet and choose what gearbox you think will be strong enough and choose a flywheel and starter to suit. Or are you going to tempt fate and stick with the cast flywheel? -
Raven's Ke25 Corolla Memorial Rebuild - Now Parting Out

So i'm tipping that 626 was never engineered :jamie: To think that a simple flat piece of steel is all it takes to make a proper mount. I would hate to be a bolt on the engine side of that mount. Nice to see some good progress Mick. At least you can look at it now and build it the exact opposite way. :) -
I am F'N ropeable. As of 30mins ago the twin pipes are from the extractors to just before the diff in a collector. No over the diff section made yet and he's not working tommorrow. So the car will be in his workshop all weekend. 4 days and he has made 2 metres of exhaust......WTF?? Last time he gets my business. So the point of the post is. I will NOT be at the event. :jamie:

I was always going bridgey when the finances allowed. I have a S3 12A Extend Port in the shed that used to be in my car, but went off for tuning and came back with added smoke trails....so thats in the pipeline for a rebuild. Currently I have a stock S1 which seems almost indestructible, so i'm in no rush to rip it out. Mick I have a 1" VN V8 Master bolted up to a KE55 Booster. I would expect that to be plenty as it ran the 4 pot Landcruiser calipers on the front just fine. So the pissy R31 callipers shouldnt be that much of an issue. The brakes were shit hot until: A) The diff upgrade B) The Engine Swap - It doesnt appear to be a vacuum issue now as the resevoir tank hasnt cured it. Next step will be to swap out the pads and chuck in something more streetable that doesnt require heat for them to work. On a side note. I hate lazy exhaust shop owners!!!! My car has been there since tuesday morning, and all he has accomplished is twin pipes from the extractors to the diff. He still hasnt done the loop over the diff. I honestly don't know how people make a living.....
-
I reckon you shouldnt be expecting me at this meeting. My POS is off at the exhaust shop (dropped it off tuesday morning) - he called this arvo to check if I still wanted it all mandrel bent......so thats 2 days down the drain and he's achieved nothing. I assume nothing has even been ordered so the chance of it being done by the weekend is unlikely.

Where would someone buy an approved yet cheap helmet?
-
I'm going BP :P All the brakes were new before the engine conversion. New or Reco changeover at least. The pedal feels firm but not too firm....Its feels more like theres no bite from the pads. Maybe its got something to do with the rear now having discs? don't get me wrong, the old girl will still out brake alot of cars on the road. But I think theres still an issue that needs to be resolved.
-
Yeah I hope for a few more ponies. Its got a big flat spot down low as it is.....so hopefully between the exhaust and a retune, it should be cured. I took it for a spin this arvo and the brakes feel the same. Its holding vacuum so i'm tipping its not a vacuum issue now. Might do away with the green stuff pads and try something different. P.S. I know the Greenstuff pads need heat in them to work...and yes i had plenty of heat in them .
