  1. There was a TA22 at Winton Histoics the other day, with a completely white interior, and it was hideous. Black is the new black. And you will get more hot chicks........or so I am told. ;)
  2. Ohhhh, that is seriously hot. Did he recycle your eyelets or did he have new ones?
  3. I have a JDM KE10 SL K-B engine brochure which shows the tacho dash and that steering wheel in that. Interestingly, the gearknob has a white face rather than the emerald green colour
  4. I got genuine rear quarter rubbers for a KE25/TE27 from Cabe Toyota in the USA last month. Maybe try them?
  5. In my search for all things KE15, which makes a change from TE27 and AE86, picked up a copy of Modern Motor Jan 1969 which has a nice road test on the KE15SL as below. Some salient facts. On the contents page, the KE15SL was described as Toyota's hairy new hotted up coupe. SL pricing was $2498. 'Lavish' equipment included lightly tinted glass, self seeking radio, seat belts (!) and twin wing mirrors. It's a scream looking back on these old mags now, the stunning new Mazda coupes with rotaries, the introduction of fuel injection into 'ordinary' cars and so on. Fantastic advertisements, often with a girl draped over whatever was for sale.
  6. A mate who knows these things was telling me the other day that the recent Corvette had some issue with space in the front when designing it, and they got around it by using a fiberglass transverse leaf. As soon as he started talking GMH I switched off, so a bit sparse on detail. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Corvette_leaf..._other_vehicles
  7. I also reckon that's a pretty good price, though presumably you need to go and pull all the bits out of a car yourself, since it is pickapart. It's so cheap, I don't blame Toyrolla for hanging up on you......
  8. Although I have no experience with them, I have never heard anything good said about the rare spare items. Maybe some genuine ones will turn up in a shed in Cyprus :bash:
  9. I doubt you have any choice. You won't get any genuine ones anywhere. I plan getting a set from Lilavadee and trying to leave the front and rear screen insitu if possible. Partially as I don't want to risk breaking the screen. I have obtained a mix of genuine and non genuine seals for my TE27 build via various channels, but have seen nothing genuine in KE1x
  10. It was a great day. Gorgeous foggy panoramas on the way up in the morning. Beautiful weather all day, though a bit chilly later in the arvo. Oh, and some nice cars too. Kehendo snapped up the spare pass I had so good it didn't go to waste. Highlights? All the bike racing, especially the side cars. There is something about old bikes, and all the biker guys seemed to be getting on particularly well together without any sheep station racing. The final group Nb race especially between the mini's and the mustangs was awesome. The Delage in the carpark, what a stunning creation. The castrol R scent as always, particularly contributed to by some very smoky bikes, and also by an amazing 6litre Gypsy Fiat (I think). How they ever raced those old machines in the 20's boggles the mind. Oh and good to see after all these years, a winton steak sandwich is as good as ever. Lowlights? Kehendo's KE20 wasn't let in to the club display, mind you the guy parking his ferrari in the carpark next to me didn't look too happy about it either. A couple of bikers looked to get fairly seriously hurt in an accident. And in the last race, a Cortina got destroyed by an EH. Almost total absence of anything Japanese. An RX2 and a Datsun 1600 showing well in the racing. A couple of TA22's, Datsun sports and a Prince GTA was about it in the paddock. There was a K engine in one of the old formula 2's though. And I forgot my camera. All up a great day.
  11. Yes this was discussed recently. Only bit I didn't like was when Clarkson slagged off Corolla's. Obviously he wasn't referring to KE1x's or xE2x's! I am going to buy the DVD and show my wife. Then i will tell her about the KE15 she hasn't noticed out back yet.
  12. Some of these rubbers come in a parts bag that looks like a genuine Toyota bag but isn't. Instead of saying Toyota Genuine Parts, it says Toyota General parts. I guess that's Asian copyright for you. But when you are looking at the ebay picture, you don't get close enough to see this and can be mislead.
  13. Well I'm on both but I still have no idea what they are talking about :rolla:
  14. Hang on a minute, is this Toymods or Rollaclub :rolla:
  15. I'm going up just for the Sunday, not in a Toyota though. Apparently some of the classic celica guys will be at the end of the front straight.
  16. Semantics, the flywheel is lightened by machining it. The friction surface is also refaced by machining it. Clearly we are talking about reducing the weight of the flywheel here. Just make sure you get advice from a reputable brake and clutch shop. The difference is very noticeable and you don't need to take off vast amounts of material. Engine pickup will be markedly improved. Realistically, the amount that you would have safely removed from a cast flywheel will be unlikely to adversely affect driveability. I never noticed any problem. Just don't go putting a solid centre clutch plate in a road car. That WILL destroy your driveability and is completely unnecessary.
  17. Once upon a time in a land far far away, actually Melbourne in the mid 80's, EVERYONE who modified their engine had the flywheel machined. No one had ever heard of buying the assorted TODA bling flywheels you can get now. I had my 2T and L20B flywheels machined at my local brake and clutch place as did my club racing mates. I can't remember how much as it was long ago. The thing then was not to get too carried away in case they took to much off. You don't want the flywheel disintegrating at 6500rpm (or even 1000rpm for that matter). I would have no problems doing so again. Perhaps this time I will go along to a specialist brake and clutch place (with a lot of racing car work) such as BGT in Melbourne rather than my current local dodgy joint. B.G.T. Brake Services 10 Webster St, Dandenong, VIC 3175 p: (03) 97946787, (03) 97922806 Unfortunately they have moved from nearby leafy Hawthorn to the sticks of Dandy, but I wouldn't go anywhere else for anything brake or clutch related.
  18. Very quick visit to Centre Rd today. Nothing new on the KE front. There was a smallport 4AGE there that looked fairly unmolested.
  19. For the benefit of those not active on Toymods, I have pasted the guts of the thread here: Although this reflects the situation in Victoria, i would be surprised if the situation was much different in other states. After seeing the same question a thousand times, I wrote to Vicroads explaining my specific situation in detail, vis that I had installed a 16 valve bigport 4AGE into my ADM delivered AE86. Along with the engine change, I explained that I had also changed over essentially every other part of the car to that fitted in an overseas spec 4AGE engined car, suspension, brakes, fuel system, emissions etc etc. I explained that I had looked in detail through Vehicle Standards Information (VSI) 8, Guide to Modifications for Motor Vehicles, and been unable to find specific reference to installing an engine available in this vehicle overseas, although ADR's are much mentioned. To cut a long story short, the answer is YES, if you put a 4AGE of ANY TYPE into an AE86 it requires an engineers certificate to be road legal in Victoria. Obviously this also applies to 2TG's into earlier Corolla's and Celica's, 18RG's etc etc? And of course 4AGE's into xE70/71's and no doubt lots of other Toyota models I know nothing about. The letter from Vicroads is attached and self explanatory. The highlighting was done by me. Whilst looking through the vicroads website for something else last week, I also found this which essentially says the same thing. "Notifying VicRoads of changes and modifications to vehicles Change of Engine 1. Replacement engine is identical to the original engine, or is an option allowed by the manufacturer for the same model vehicle The optional engine must be offered in Australia by the vehicle manufacturer as an option for that vehicle (or certified variants). The change of engine may be recorded by VicRoads provided that the registered operator or a motor mechanic, or dealer in that make of vehicle or an Automotive Engineer signs a declaration certifying the engine is optional for the vehicle model, and that all modifications made by the manufacturer for the same vehicle model with that optional engine, have been completed." 2. Replacement engine is not of a type offered by the vehicle manufacturer as an option for that vehicle or where alterations, or changes to the vehicle's frame or structure are made, and/or specially fabricated supports or structures are used You will need to attend a VicRoads Customer Service Centre for an inspection of the vehicle to confirm the new engine details. You will also need to complete a Change of Vehicle Description form [PDF 24kb] and provide VicRoads with: * a VASS Approval Certificate from a VicRoads Vehicle Assessment Signatory * an original receipt for the purchase of the engine as proof of ownership of the engine The only way around this is if someone is able to get documentary proof that Toyota did actually bring in a quantity of 4AGE engined AE86's at some stage as often rumoured though never categorically proven. The point of the above is that if your vehicle was available through the dealer network IN AUSTRALIA with a given engine, then it has been through ADR's and is thus registerable as is. If not, then it needs an engineers report. It depends on whether you want to do it entirely legally, or just what gets it on the road. For the sake of not much money, for the piece of mind, mine will be engineered. What you decide to do is up to you. At least Vicroads position is very clear. Mr Moparman noted "as others have said, as long as the engine looks similar to the previous engine and isnt stolen, its easy to fly by under vicroads noses.. the problem is if you have an accident and your insurance company turns round and say get lost, you didnt comply with vicroads legislation. it wouldnt matter if a vicorads person passed it.. if it doesnt comply with legislation, your stuffed."
  20. Looks stock to me. Also handle it carefully as the edges chip of easily. I am no expert but I would have thought altering mass on the front of the crank would be no different to altering mass on the rear of the crank (flywheel)?
  21. You're out of luck. As we never got a TE37 here, it will need to be engineered. Same goes for me when I finish my TE27, and when I finally get around to the last two jobs on my AE86. You could make engineering easier by sourcing a TE37 crossmember, not sure if Sept Squall still has his? I have taken some comparo photos of my TE27 crossmember and KE25 crossmember which I shall post up for general interest when I get a moment.
  22. SNAPPED!
  23. Be very careful removing it. I remember a thread a while back on Toymods where the nose of the crank sheared off a 4AGE whilst driving down the freeway. I think it might have been Hen. And from memory it was a smallport. Yes, here is the thread.
  24. I have only used genuine Toyota filters for years. My understanding was that Ryco filters did not have a drain valve to stop the filter draining each time the engine stopped which meant it had to refill before you got oil pressure. That may or may not actually be the case. Whatever, as soon as I started using genuine filters, the rattle on startup disappeared.
