  1. Sounds like a good idea, all of the above! I'll be headed in that direction after acquiring the hire car & have a spare day, might see if I can talk/bribe my way inside TTE...I have to try! (hey bro, swaps my hire car & a fishtank for your GT-one? ;) ) As a kid on family holidays, I used to hate being dragged along to churches, to the point where I'd sit outside & read a book. First holiday as an 'adult' & the first place I'm headed? Saint Patricks Cathedral.....*facepalm* Nice work picking up a trophy, would be worth the hassle getting it home I'm sure! Bragging rights galore there! Cheers for the tips too! :y: So 7shades, what you're saying is don't expect too much difference between there & here? Or that they're things NOT to do? :D
  2. If you mean BT's needs looking at.....you're kidding right? Sure, I'll look at it, as I pull it out & hurl it into the scrap bin! Gokai's getting coilovers with all of the adjustable bits, so now I just need to befriend the local wheel guy to get a discount on alignments, so I can fiddle about & see what does what. Get it how I like it & leave it alone from there. :D Gonna hold you to that offer to take me for a spin. :y: Adjustable rear swaybar? I hear you on the lack of a front one, could install one, but lazy. :) When I was running the CS-X wheels, I'd get understeer the moment I touched the throttle pedal around a bend. Changed wheels & tyres, it's improved the situation quite a lot. It still happens (naturally) when too much throttle is applied around a corner, but takes more throttle to do so. Except the wheels themselves, the only things that changed to affect handling were the tyres & the alignment settings. :)
  3. Cheers man, welcome aboard! I couldn't decide which one to drive, so I decided to do all of them. Won't exactly be in this part of the world again anytime soon. Should be getting stuck into a house loan deposit, it can wait some more. :)
  4. Cheers again for the helpful tips (Philbey, Bamboo, coln72, paddymoo, Parrot & Redwarf too), if I stay the night at a roadside toilet, I'll be sure to get a photo just for you. Suction cup window mount for my camera showed up in the mail today, so I can film the above mountain passes. Bookface is evil...evil I tell you!! Will do, Gokai's budget cuts had better be worth it! :D
  5. Seeing as I spend so much time here & not into a typical travel blog, I'll just post this up here. For both Rollaclub & general people I know alike, those who don't do Facebook might wonder if I'm still alive. Should be able to post some updates along the way too, internet cafes are plentiful. :) Rollaclub tops Facebook in regards to priorities! *Insert paragraph about needing a holiday, chasing dreams, living life etc here* Fly out of Melbourne on the 16th August, get into Dublin, Ireland on the 17th. Pick up an Opel Corsa (or similar) hire car & head southwest to Cork, stopping off at Kilkenny Castle along the way. Plan to track down some family history in the area, visit a distillery or two, kiss the Blarney Stone & get back to Dublin to fly out to Southampton, UK on the 19th. Catching up with family in the UK, no wedding anymore but we're still making a holiday of it. Have a hire car here too (Vauxhall Corsa or similar, back to back model comparison? ;) ) so I have a little more travel ability, avoiding the general London area. Less than 48 hours later, I fly out from Southampton to Amsterdam on the 21st. Allowing an extra day for things to get messy as I'm 'seeing the sights', I've got a train ticket from Amsterdam to Frankfurt on the 23rd. From here, I pick up the BMW 1 Series diesel (or similar) hire car on the 24th & spend some time cruising around Germany, thinking Nuremberg then Munich & adjusting to LHD. On the 26th I have 4 laps around the Nurburgring in a Suzuki Swift 'Stage 2' car booked. Hiring a video camera, so it will be filmed & uploaded (any mistakes/spins included) to YouTube. Enough Playstation, time for the real thing! Keeping in the automotive theme, am heading south to Switzerland & the Stelvio Pass. Continuing on to the San Bernardino Pass. Don't plan to stay long, Switzerland's not too car friendly from what I hear. Dates are flexible from here, as I'm unsure how sidetracked I'll get. Debating about heading further South to a either the Ferrari or Pagani Factories, possibly both. But not before I get in a trip across to Monaco, then into France for the Col de Turini. Heading East after this into Austria to a stop in Vienna on the 31st, do a sneaky flight to Prague & back (can't take the hire car into Czech Rep.) then back across Germany to try & catch the Belgian F1 Grand Prix on the 2nd September. The trip to Prague part may change if I take too much time heading to Maranello & San Cesario sul Panaro in Italy. Photos at the factory gates will suffice me, a tour might blow my mind. Plans are somewhat flexible, so if anyone's got a suggestion of something to check out along the way/slight detour that's worthwhile, please post it up by all means. :y: Whatever happens, I fly out of Frankfurt on the 3rd & will be back in Australia on the 5th September. I admit, it's not everyone's idea of a holiday (so much driving) but *meh*, will be more fun in other countries than here. :laff: Passport - check, International Drivers Permit - check, Plane tickets - check, Hire cars with GPS - check, Train ticket - check, Accomodation - check, Bank cards sorted - check, Decent camera - check, Insurance for all of the things!!! - check, Dog-sitter sorted - check, Excited & nervous - check, Reason for project car laying dormant - check. :D Reason for edit: Revised navigation.
  6. Winning! Zak Lee? Keeping a close eye on this thread now. Loving the plans by the by. ;)
  7. Sorry that I missed this, me being me I went out & stuck my head under the bonnet. Thought about taking a photo, but too many hoses in the way & Trev's diagram's on the money! :y:
  8. I didn't say lift-off oversteer was a good thing (I've ended up facing the wrong way around a roundabout in the wet more than once), I just said it's there. It is a nice change from aforementioned understeer though. :P Cheers, it's served me well for the last 5 years or so, there's also another piece for my housemates Telstar. I bought a ~$60 clutch alignment tool, found it was f**king useless & returned it.
  9. Somewhat belated, but I finally got my photos back. Here's a selection of my favourites. The rest can be found here. https://www.facebook...=1&l=d261cc2d4c
  10. WMMH - Got my Uni-exam results back today! Practical - Water Supply: Pass, Practical - Drainage: Pass, Practical - Gasfitting: Pass, Practical - Mechanical Services: Pass, Practical - Roofing: Fail, Practical - Sanitary: Fail. I'd hoped for 4 out of 6, so pretty happy right now. I know how I failed those 2, just re-sit them at the end of the year now & not make the same mistake twice. :D The $h1tty bit is I still have to wait until the end of the 4 year period before I get registered (i.e become "fully qualified"). Meh, beers! :drinks:
  11. The intake manifold's on backwards...
  12. I drilled a hole & tapped a thread in an 8-ball for my Twin Cam, only realised much later that it might've been a hot rod style thing to do at one stage. No $h1ts were given. :)
  13. ^ I don't know how the f**k I missed that yesterday, unsure if it had even fallen out at that stage. Either way, the gearbox came back off this morning. Noticed the spring & felt glad I'd just gotten back from picking up a new clutch kit. Wasn't the master cylinder, lines, slave cylinder, fork or bearing...not much else left to replace. :) Pressure plate surface was properly rooted. As was the clutch plate, one wonders how an engine with so little power can do that to the metal plate. Flywheel was okay, gave it a good clean & a rub with some emery cloth after the photo was taken. REALLY should have gotten it resurfaced.....but Sunday... :( Odds are the clutch will outlive the engine anywho. New pressure plate. New clutch plate. Complete with uber-expensive clutch alignment tool, sanded down broom handle. Bolted the whole lot back together in a new record time, bled the clutch fluid to be sure & went for a test drive. Have never known the clutch to feel this light! Does skidz courtesy of rain, happy chappy! Now, where's that scotch.......
  14. 2AC clutch killing powerz!!!
  15. Blue Things clutch decided that it no longer wanted to disengage on Thursday, so with the help of a mate I managed to get home, grab a spare slave cylinder & get back. Swap it over, same problem. Cracked the shits & drove it home without using the clutch. Pulled the gearbox out today to inspect the clutch fork, showed signs of splitting at the pivot point. Pressed steel fail. Also, the setup for the C40 differs from the C5x series in that the pivot point (bolts into housing) is smaller, as is the clutch fork itself. C5x on the left, C40 on the right. Swapped the whole setup in. Get the whole shebang back together in record time to find that nothing's changed, clutch still won't disengage. :( Time for a new clutch kit or am I missing something here? Buggered pressure plate? :hmm:
  16. Hell yeah! Upside of smaller housing, spools up faster? That is pretty much the number I'm looking for, no intentions of being the next Backyarder here! :laff: I'm drawing a blank with what spec compressor I'm using...Stu!?! :) The plan is to have a set of MRP coilovers (& bigger brakes!) in long before the new engine. I haven't pulled the gearbox apart (& have no intention of doing so) to confirm 110%, but I have what I've been told is a decent one. Hunting for a set of E-series driveshafts, if they break (with semi-slicks & a hard launch it could happen...) I'll just get a custom set made. Lift-off oversteer comes factory standard, even Blue Thing got that.. :P Power steering...........................no. More reasons why I like these cars so much: I'm not doing anything that hasn't been done before, so options/ideas are plentiful & lots of factory Toyota bits either bolt up or can be easily modified to fit. Also stops people starting conversations about drifting with me. ;)
  17.   +25-28 offset, I sell a kidney & they're mine!
  18. This sounds familiar, I'm pretty sure it was from reading your thread a while back that I became aware of things like different impedences with injectors etc to be wary of when sourcing parts. So a double cheers/thankyou for the heads up! :2thumbs: Might head back & re-read a few things now. ;) Edit: This was the one... More parts searching methinks. :hmm: 118kw atw on only 7psi sounds quite good to me! :D Correct, too much power is no good to me unless I replicate something like what bazdas developed for his AE92 Levin, re:suspension/wheels/tyres etc setup to be able to put it down. Again, my pockets don't extend quite that deep. :( Nice interwebs searching by the by, cheers. ;) If I get 200hp at the wheels, I will be a very happy camper/torque-steerer. I'm pretty sure what I'll have put together will hold together quite happily. :) You know in cartoons how a little devil & angel hover over the characters shoulders? In this case, Stu's the devil & my bank balance is the angel. :P I'm just going to slap a heap of mostly factory Toyota bits together & see what happens.
  19. If you love her this much as she is Azza, I dare say you'll want to marry it after upgrades! (metaphorically speaking of course) :P It's an '82, if something doesn't rattle, there's something wrong. Character, soul etc. :laff:
  20. Deal of the year, nice work.
  21. Damn I laughed so much at that video, I was also thinking the Igor Peabody, the School Principal from Problem Child 2.
  22. Not sure.....there's two things that'll hold it back: money & how long it takes me to tire of driving a 4AGE powered car again. After driving a 2A for so long I don't know how long that'll be. :laff: Will take you for a spin regardless, might be three things holding it back if Stu keeps whispering things like "296 degree camshafts & a disco-potato" in my ear. :P I'm just wondering about those 'minor hiccups', anything specific to be wary of that you might care to share with me? If it's info you'd rather keep to yourself, all's cool. :) A neat & discrete install is the idea, things like: all that alloy piping will end up black (shiny isn't my thing), no open wastegate ( :( ) & the bov will be the plumb-back type. I know proper tuning might be a bit pricey, but I figure it's worth it as I want it to run properly, i.e like a factory turbo-engine. As much as possible anyway, as I don't have the chequebook of a car manufacturer.
  23. I do now, cheers! :y: I think that'll do me (read:bank balance) quite nicely though, it's either that or the 1000.
  24. With one of these: And one of these: :D **Many apologies for my bad sense of humour, nothing air-conditioning related at all. Intercooler & intake piping for the turbo-engine to go in later down the track. ;)
  25. I have, this sure as heck isn't for Blue Thing. :P Yeah, boost bug bit courtesy of being strapped into a mates JZA80. Basic plan is: N/A engine + coilovers + bigger brakes + semi-slicks = have a blast at hillclimbs/trackdays. Add boost = scare expensive cars (& myself). :D Had purchased another secondhand intercooler a while back...long story short it's useless, I got ripped off & it was too large anyway...lessons learned.
