Yes..they are very very different. I think the only things that are really interchangable are like the water pump and a few other bits and pieces. That said the engine mounts are the same I believe (correct me if I'm wrong people) so if you convert to a 4A-C and then want to upgrade to a 4A-GE there isnt quite as much work to do. Cars with the 4A-C? AE86 AE71 AE82* AE91* * Deotes a FWD engine layout Id be hunting for a spirit (AE71) or AE86

we accually compared the two backing plates...they are identical...even the shoes...slaves are the same (PBRs) edit: oh i don't just mean theyre the same brand...they are the same internally (we rebuilt KE30 ones and the KE20 ones at the same time...)

just to add to this KE30 jap spec hand brake cables and backing plates will fit on a KE20 no sweat
