I always wondered why a life sentence is 20 years and not life like it suggests?

I always wondered why a life sentence is 20 years and not life like it suggests?

 

Life is life, just you may be eligible for parole after minimum 20/25 years etc, which is why it is often referred to as "25 to life" (ie absolute minimum is 25 years if you get paroled first go, worst case is you die behind bars)

they should bring back menial labour... as you drive around the country side you see the brick walls the old convicts used to construct..

i reckon if criminals all had to do it like the old days there would be less crime to begin with...

They already do it, but you just don't know it.

Only the trusted go out on the work gangs and they get paid for the labour they put in.

Cause the UN has declared that slave labour is bad and evil for the human being.

get paid for it WTF... pricks are criminals.. scum etcetc.. should be treated so... no pay... minimal food... long hours.... etcetc.

The minimum security crims do roadside work up here. Collecting rubbish, cutting back overgrown bush etc

From memory its about 5 bucks an hour. Three meals, prison clothes and "lodging" is free but everything else (smokes, toothpaste, body wash stuff, etc) comes out of the pay. And its all full price stuff. No discounts here if your a chain smoker.

A very close friend of mine was murdered 10years ago. I'll spare you all the horrible details.

Two males were responsible. They got 16 and 14 years respectivly. One is out on parole, and is now well educated and has a degree. Something you and I have to pay tens of thousands for at uni (sometimes hundreds of thousands).

Nine years (of free food and board) and an outstanding education at the expense of someones life. :hmm:

the amount of new members that sign up make on or two posts/threads then never appear again and alot of the time its a stupid or repeat question

just as well this site is free because alot of the time the questions are just priceless thank you admins for doing alot of the work and admining free of charge as i would hate to see what it would be like if it wasnt controlled so well

That a cops life is more valuable than everyone elses,

 

It's not because the legal system places a higher value on a cop's life; it's an extension of the manslaughter/murder delineation. The punishment is commensurate with the stronger motives of a cop-killer.

 

ie - consider a "crime of passion" murderer who kills his wife cos she sleeps around, he's angry enough to stab her 45 times, but when acopper rocks up at his door, fear hits him, he realises his mistake and doesn't have the cahoni's to kill a copper.

 

ie - cop killers are REAL nutters.

It's not a JUSTICE system, it's a LEGAL system.

 

'Justice' implies equality & fairness, both of which are mostly non-existent in our current methods.
