Taz_Rx Posted October 19, 2009 Report Posted October 19, 2009 Another place to check for an AM aerial Jip - My rx4 actually has a very thin wire that runs through the front windscreen. Being of around the same era your Galant might be the same? Quote
67Rolla-Ken Posted October 20, 2009 Author Report Posted October 20, 2009 That's a thought, I could get a wire up around the windscreen when I put the rubber in? Quote
JiP Posted October 20, 2009 Report Posted October 20, 2009 I think mine might be boot. Leaving now to see. I think I remember seeing a wire going along there and thinking WTF the car doesn't have a boot release. Quote
Taz_Rx Posted October 20, 2009 Report Posted October 20, 2009 That's a thought, I could get a wire up around the windscreen when I put the rubber in? No in the mazda is laminated between the 2x sheets of glass. Not exactly something you can do without spending a fortune on a custom screen. Quote
67Rolla-Ken Posted October 20, 2009 Author Report Posted October 20, 2009 But would my idea work?? My brother-in-law is coming down this weekend to help fit the door internals!! Might get the windows in and interior in.. :) Will look like a car again :D Quote
Taz_Rx Posted October 20, 2009 Report Posted October 20, 2009 You mean running a wire under the screen rubber? Quote
Taz_Rx Posted October 20, 2009 Report Posted October 20, 2009 :) Not too sure, mght not be a strong enough signal under the rubber. Do Ke10's have a chrome strip around the windscreen on top of the rubber? You could always try soldiering some wires to the back of the chrome strip and use that as the aerial!? :D Quote
67Rolla-Ken Posted October 20, 2009 Author Report Posted October 20, 2009 Great idea! Will give that a go. Quote
JiP Posted October 20, 2009 Report Posted October 20, 2009 Man this is a thick wire... I thought it was an earth or something... Quote
67Rolla-Ken Posted October 20, 2009 Author Report Posted October 20, 2009 Wow, not what I was picturing at all. Looks reasonably professional. Quote
philbey Posted October 20, 2009 Report Posted October 20, 2009 Yep. Exactly the same as mine. Even on the same side, which says to me that it's factory. The bootlid might be about the right size to pickup the correct wavelengths. Shouldn't be to much longer than a KE10 bootlid. I'd just give it a shot Ken, get some antenna wire (Jaycar) and try it out. Also, you could most likely conceal a long strip of wire stashed in your window seal, but you don't want it earthing on anything. I can't remember much on the theory of antennae. Quote
camerondownunder88 Posted October 20, 2009 Report Posted October 20, 2009 In my KE30 the stock Ariel stopped working so I got a Ariel from a torana and plugged it n and extended it inside the car under the dash..LOL had the fascia off found I could extend it about half the length of the dash PERFECT reception. Also worked on floor of the car so even try finding a small areil and putting it in the dash or under passenger seat front or rear. Cheers Cameron Quote
67Rolla-Ken Posted October 20, 2009 Author Report Posted October 20, 2009 Sounds a bit too dodgy for my car... :) Trying not to use the bodge solutions on this car as it is to be a show car. I'm liking the boot lid idea. Quote
philbey Posted October 20, 2009 Report Posted October 20, 2009 Yeh try it because I might even do it on the wagon if you're successful. Or you could just scrap the idea, who listens to the radio anyway? Get a HDD head unit! Quote
