Jono Posted December 26, 2007 Report Posted December 26, 2007 and i was about to ask what the hole saw was for... did you weigh all those bits you cut out? 12kg from the body deadener seems well worth it + whatever else you cut out. Quote
Redwarf Posted December 27, 2007 Author Report Posted December 27, 2007 did you weigh all those bits you cut out? You would have to be really retentive to do that, as well as collecting all of the body deadener in a box to see what it weighs..... I'll let you know when I have the scales downstairs again...... :y: Quote
Teddy Posted December 28, 2007 Report Posted December 28, 2007 hahha your not the weight reduction kind untill you can meet and beat tony and chris's weight reduction - lol you seen under the dash pad for example ? Lookin tops rob  Quote
Jono Posted December 28, 2007 Report Posted December 28, 2007 how much does a cage for a small car like this weigh? Quote
Redwarf Posted December 28, 2007 Author Report Posted December 28, 2007 The one that's going in, a fair bit. Main hoop and double cross Front legs and x bar Sainz bars Rear legs and harness bar Double side intrusions Bars from front legs to front strut tower Double roof bars At a guess, around the 50-60 kg mark, but I tend to hit things hard these days. The one I pulled out of the old car was about 40kgs. Teddy, the dash on the 55's are different, and there isn't as much metal to remove. However all captive nuts and brackets that are no longer required are also being removed. I know it seems silly removing all this weight and then sticking a pipe factory inside, but to me it's worth the effort to keep it as trim as possible. The cage is not just safety, but also structurally strengthening as well. Quote
Redwarf Posted March 5, 2008 Author Report Posted March 5, 2008 Slow progress, but an enforced holiday at the moment is helping..... Quote
Redwarf Posted April 13, 2008 Author Report Posted April 13, 2008 Received car back from cage builder yesterday. Two weeks away, and there's been a bit of a change. This is now about the minimum spec cage that I'll have in a good car. Pics are a bit ordinary, but you get the idea. It mounts at 8 places, the usual 6 plus through the firewall to the front towers. It's tagged to the body in a further 8 places. Business cards can be distributed on request, although this guy does have a substancial back log. :) Quote
oh what a nissan feeling! Posted April 15, 2008 Report Posted April 15, 2008 That is brilliant, finally a corolla with some real structural rigidity. its so tight to the body. It must be good not having to worry about rego hassels :) Quote
