But wouldn't the piston get pushed the direction the conrod is angled to in its upwards stroke ?

And what about "piston slap", where the piston more or less rocks in the cylinder ?

The whole idea of the piston just going up and down just doesn't work in the real world cause of the angles the conrod achieves in pushing the piston up and then when the piston comes back down acting on the crank to turn it around.

The piston gets pushed and pulled to the sides in its movement..

Personally, i like the whole idea that Spittao is getting at

The only mod needed after this is of filling in the intake ports and moving them more upwards so that they open up into the side of the rocker cover. Takes out the dog-leg at the intake valves that way.

And David Vizard could do it to his 105E Anglia and get some serious horsepower from that i reckon it'd be interesting on a K motor

Oh god not you now...

Piston slap :poke: If you get piston slap in an engine then its worn out, Grab a piston in your hand and the rod in the other and hold the piston straight up and down while reciprocating the crank movement.

i need to go to the toilet and fart through my mouth. I have acquired the brain freeze after reading these.. ... general incompetent shenanigans.

What ever your name is, who has the idea of doing this dogie upright; its not even worth my time scrolling up and reading your username. Apart from the fact that most of your posts don't make sense at the best of times - I feel that your horrendous methods of fabrication are far from being creative let alone something to be commended on. I Also would go as far as to say to someone who has even less of an idea than yourself on doing these sorts of things would get some pretty nasty and crossed ideas on whats actually fact from fiction; ugh now I'm getting sucked into this silly barch thread.

Good on you for trying something by yourself and learning a few new things; you need to realise that tacking a modification like this is more than just physically moving the motor; it really is a big task; And if its done incorrectly - apart from possibly turning the car illegal and unroadworthy, you face damaging / destroying your motor and or drivetrain.

The guys that have done this conversion are lurking throughout the forum, and have seen the thread. I know who they are, and they know i know who they are. After what has been displayed in this thread, its not even worth their time to post there views on it... let alone add something genuine to the pie.

Oh, and please keep the language down ladies, I'm sick of editing posts.

Ha Ben, When was the last time you beat your KE70 with your silvia, Now that would be a close race.

Mate I tell ya what Ive got a 4.1 diff in the KE70 now so I think she might just be pulling away from the silvia through the deep!!

Ha, Love it...

Ryan we have no problem with him wanting to upright his engine, Its the fact that people say it increases power or reduces piston wear that is annoying, He has already stated that he isnt doing it to put twin carbs on it anytime soon but if he wants the look of a normal looking engine then so be it.

Not sayin theres problems doing it. just seems like if your not doin it for power why do it at all sorta attitude. everyone has their own reasons for doing things.

Shane'0 this is after all your thread, you take control back. nothing but support and comments from me.

eh? whats the catch, the Silvia running on 2 cyls + the 4k running on straight meth?

Dude if a K motor can beat a 4age then Ben's silvia has no chance.

Time to bring out that 3KR head thats been in my shed for a while, sure its worth a pretty penny these days haha

LOL I just had a scary realisation that my silvia makes more power in less than one cylinder than my K does across 4.... :poke: and I haven't even got the new turbo on yet...

Thanks for tonights entertainment pplz...nighty night!

You have a 3KR head and you spent all that money on the POS blue car...

....The 4age was better :poke:

So your hotted up 3k (130hp) beat a stock internal 20v (160hp) with a close ratio box and a motec, My stock 4age beat a stock 3k, WHat do i win.

Maybe you should post more info on these cars.

The only reason I wrote that was in reference to someone saying 'put a 4AGE in it and you will have twice the power...'

There is already enough crap in this thread, my post was on topic and if you want to find out about the car, read Brendo's readers ride "KE10 race car".

Pistons - Motor improvements cast 79mm high comp

Cam - Motor improvements 672-11

Inlet 51/81

Exhaust 85/45

Head - Motor improvements, ported, big valves, heavy duty valve springs, solid spacers for rockers

Flywheel - lightened & balanced

Clutch - 4 puck ceramic plate & H/D pressure plate

Brakes - BMW - (320I) discs, commodore calipars

unless you have something to say about the real topick at hand, get off of this post and just PM each other and stop flooding it with irrelevant talk about irrelevant facts...

Even if its bolt upright its still not going to be crossflow. I say go for it, nobody here has the right to tell you to spend your time and money wisely now do they. Make us a worklog so we can see what you did, it may help future rollaclubbers who want to do this mod.

I still personally haven't cottoned on to an exact and decisive reason for doing it, in all but race applications. I accept that if you had more space for decent carbs it would be an advantage, and possibly the car would be better balanced with a more vertical and centred motor, although you would be elevating the motors centre of gravity also. I see these advantages as minimal gain when most engines with high HP potential applications in corollas are already upright.

I think all that uneven wear stuff is pretty out there. Like someone said, why doesnt every v motor suffer the same fate, or every 5sfe camry, etc? Seems like a bit of hype.

Anyhow, its your baby, don't let everyone get you upset, they are just saying what they think, as are you, so just enjoy the privelige of free speech at its finest and if you are still keen to do it after all that people have been saying (including those with actual TRD upright engine kits), then who are we to doubt your commitment and resolve. Go for it.
