Paint has started, have to do in sections it's hard to paint the bars and not get the rest of the interior dusty.

Paint finished, it has turned out pretty good.

Now to put this thing back together!!

Sitting in the shed at the new house, it took me half an hour just to in mask from the paint.

The exterior paint looks like crap against the bay and interior now, but it's ready to put together, I will start on the wiring first and running fuel and brake lines.

 

That's awesome, the factory creamy colour looks really good on the cage.  

Niiiice updates! 

Started on the rear parcel shelf and bulkhead panels, made them so the bolt down with nutserts, something to do while I wait for the fuel cell and lines to arrive. I am going to weld up some removable ally covers to go over the access holes to the rear shocks. This also allows the rear bulkhead panel to sit flat as the shock mounts protruded into the cabin.  Next job is to start cutting out the rear boot floor once I have the fuel cell and battery, I am going to try and mount them slightly lower than the standard floor level if possible.

Anyway, enjoy the small update.

Spare wheel well cut out, pity because it was spotless. I will weld up frame work for fuel cell mounting.

 

I fabbed the frame with some 25 x 25 box, tacked it up and test fitted, just have to close up the sides with some new sheet metal and then weld the frame to the chassis rails and boot floor.

So much easier to work under there without the spare wheel well.

Frame work should also help stiffen the rear chassis further where the rear spring shackles mount, and weighs around the same amount the as the factory metal fuel tank.

Last nights efforts, made a start on the new sheet metal, had to use the Tig as I ran out of gas for the mig but it didn't like welding the new metal to the dirty existing floor. But it's the boot and it doesn't need to look 100%.

Funny you should say that, I actually have an idea with the door trims I might go half aluminium and half standard trims.

Anyway I made good use of the long weekend here in WA and got a heap done on the car, three days worth prep and almost ready for a colour it's just that the weather is shit, raining cats and dogs at the moment and not conducive to painting. ( I hate sanding and the amount of seam sealer in this thing was nuts)

 

Boot looks very tidy.
What was your method for removing the seam sealer? especially down in the hard to reach wheel wells!

My 4 year old has small hands...

Just kidding! I used a scraper and heaps of turps on a rag to dissolve it, then some citrus cleaner, before the paint I re-sealed it with just one bead of shrinking seam sealer.

Finally got some colour on it.

 

 

Fuel tank frame is welded in and floor riveted to the frame, also bent up some aluminium straps to hold the tank down, I may redo these in stainless steel I'll see how these ones go.

Lovely fabrication work. Straight-forward, functional and structural. This will be super cool to see finished.
