Ecclestone also said he is looking at ways to make Grand Prix racing more of a spectacle including adding shortcuts to the circuits in the future.

The 79-year-old Briton is looking at the idea of allowing each Formula One driver the option of using a shortcut on each Grand Prix track a maximum of five times to help make the races more appealing to television audiences.

"I have already looked at proposals to find solutions, but so far in vain," he said.

"One simple idea is that there is a shortcut on the circuit which each driver could use five times per race.

"It would mean no-one would be wedged behind a slower car and it would be very good both for the race and television audiences."

Ecclestone said the idea would need to be discussed with both the Formula One teams and Grand Prix organisers.

The president and CEO of Formula One Management said he is also thinking of increasing the number of points awarded to drivers who win a Formula One race from 10 to 25.

"My idea is to create a greater differential between not only first and second, but also second and third," said Ecclestone.

"It would encourage the drivers to show more desire."

The sooner he f@$ks off from F1, the sooner it can actually do something to improve.

make the races more appealing to television audiences.

That's it in a nutshell, TV has killed Formulae One stone dead!

He wants a spectacle, the Roman circus for the proles and to hell with the original idea which was to see who could build the fastest car to a set formulae.

I always feel the racing is more honest in other places, like Le Mans 24hr or lower levels of the sport.

Eccleston's ideas have been senile for years...

And maybe some jumps, and a loop de loop, and then maybe all the cars can run on big slots and the drivers control them from the pits... And there's this one part of the track where a giant animatronic tyrannosaurus comes down and snaps at the passing cars....

Anyone ever play Mafia? there was an old school race you had to compete in with a crazy shortcut. Awesome.

based on my experience in racing, I for one enjoyed the shortcut and praise eccelstones innovative idea.

And can we incorperate some 'Death Race' ideas into the new mix as well??

;)

Make that "Death Race 2000", throw in Sylvester Stallone for a bit of originality and make sure the track goes past retirement homes and hospitals...

Scoop! I was just sent this photo of the 2011 F1 car in testing. Obviously Nigel Mansell is intending to make a comeback too!
