Mixin' And Matchin' Brands

Not to piss anyone off or anything but the recent influx of V6/ca18det/rotor etc threads has got me thinking...

Is mixing and matching brands really a good thing??

Do we want to go to an "All Toyota Day" and see KE's with Nissan engines?? :D Imagine the outrage of jamming a 250 cross-flow in an immaculate VB Commodore (don't like either myself, but imagine how the bogans would react!!)... Surely its the same deal with Toyota vs. Nissan?? Arch enemies from year dot??

It a shame to have the whole "Hey man, sweet Escort... Pity about the f@$king Bridgeport!!" thing going on...

Retrofitting is cool as... don't get me wrong. Imagine a Lexus 4.0 V8 powered KE30!! Its just mix-matching brands has got me well miffed, thats all.

Thoughts??

At the end of the end, if you can sit in your toyota, turn the ignition and it starts.. and proceeds to go in drive and take off..... who cares what makes it move.. that fact that the car is moving is the main thing.

Some people may like the shape of the car but feel they like the power of another engine... well, if the heart still beats in that body... by all means!

My 2 cents :D

I agree with jamie on this one. Not only that silvias are excessively gay, but the price of a nissan motor vs toyota motor.Nissan motors are cheaper and sometimes even an easier fit. It doesnt end there though, the real decider for me was the price of aftermarket parts! A highmount, high grade stainless manifold for an sr was $230..... Unbreakable conrods $500......forged pistons $700......, not to mention every possible turbo combo has been tried and proven :D

Ive got a Celica and a Silvia...they havent attacked eachother yet...

I don't see the problem. Get over it. Id be more than happy to put a Toyota engine in my Nissan, and a Nissan engine in my Toyota. For that matter I wouldnt have a problem with a Mazda or Honda engine either...

oh what a nissan feeling! touched on the reason why I bought a silvia. It wasnt so much because it was a Silvia, or a Nissan. The BIG attraction to me was AFTERMARKET PARTS. But not just the sheer amount, the ease of getting them, off the shelf. Call me lazy but I LOVE it.

KE70 = 150

ca18 = cheap

face of HSV owner as a 150$ "sh1tter" leaves HSV for dead.... PRICELESS.

I'd prefer a GZE into the rolla but at this point in time the CA seems cheaper, so it looks like i'll be goin that way. If i wasn't looking doing a budget car i'd go with the GZE for sure.

Given an unlimited budget I wouldn't even be considering using any engines but Toyota ones in Toyotas. To quote Redwarf:

I'm a purist ( aka brand snob!). Proud of it, too!

And Clown, whilst the CA18 might be cheaper for some parts, wouldn't the relative ease of an A-series installation make it much cheaper. Especially since you could just use an AE71 crossmember and T50, along with an AE71 driveshaft. For the CA18 conversion you'd have to use custom engine and transmission mounts, and a most probably a custom driveshaft. Anything custom is going to be pricey.

Back to the Holden and Ford thing, I bet that Holden whatever is running a FORD 9"

so why stop there. I have a friend here in tassie running a VB commodore EX commodore cup car running a Ford 351,toploader and 9" diff.

We call it a forholdan.

The car runs a 11.9 over thequater, has one neally every burnout comp, and does a 1 min 2 around simmons plains (Tassies race track) i think the V8 supercars are doing a 56 sec.

Not bad for a complete home build.
