maatthayes Posted October 18, 2012 Report Posted October 18, 2012 just bought a ke70 5sp for a bargain $200, he says it needs a new carby and booster, the breaks still work just very bad, (have to push all the way in with alot of pressure to work at all), would it be the booster or something else? also would a boss kit for an ae86 fit? and would the strut bars from ae86 bolt straight in? Quote
ke70dave Posted October 18, 2012 Report Posted October 18, 2012 id start with the booster. yep 86 boss kit fits. if you are refering to the strut brace, then yep it fits, but you should get one that is adjustable as all chassis (especailly 30yr old ones) are slightly different. Quote
rian Posted October 18, 2012 Report Posted October 18, 2012 (edited) ^^Edit: Dave beat me to it. Sounds like the booster to me. I think you should check the booster out, maybe you could disconnect the booster vacuum line and plug it up so the intake doesn't have a vacuum leak, then see if the brakes get stiffer? Maybe then you will be able to tell if the booster is doing anything at all? There was a thread on here recently about hard brakes that could have been caused by the use of incorrect brake fluid. Apparently it swells all the rubbers and the pedal becomes stiff. Though I'd say it's unlikely to be your problem. An AE86 boss kit will fit, but it might not have the same self cancelling indicator system. Yes strut braces from an AE86 will fit. Or if you are talking about castor rods/strut rods or whatever they are sometimes called. They should also fit. Edited October 18, 2012 by rian Quote

B.L.Z.BUB Posted October 18, 2012 Report Posted October 18, 2012 Yes it will bolt in but I'd concentrate on getting it running. All that item does is re-center your diff when you lower the car. 1 Quote
NinjaMekanik Posted October 19, 2012 Report Posted October 19, 2012 otherwise you diff will be nice and central and youll have a pretty sweet steering wheel when you hit that tree coz your brakes arent working  Quote
Jono.C Posted October 19, 2012 Report Posted October 19, 2012 Aren't ae86 strut tops a little different? Pretty sure one of the bolt holes don't line up each side so the brace needs re-drilling? Quote
ke70dave Posted October 19, 2012 Report Posted October 19, 2012 (edited) Don't you just swap the sides? though i think you lose castor from this perhaps. http://www.rollaclub.com/board/topic/56218-rians-ke70-build/page__st__15 Edited October 19, 2012 by ke70dave Quote
altezzaclub Posted October 19, 2012 Report Posted October 19, 2012 the breaks still work just very bad, (have to push all the way in with alot of pressure to work at all), Does it use brake fluid? Go over it all. Inspect all 4 wheels for leaks and wear of the pads/shoes. Take the master cyl off and see if fluid is leaking out the back of it into the booster. Check the booster operation by puttng your foot on the brakes and then starting the car. If the booster is working OK it will suck the pedal down further. If it all looks OK then bleed the whole system. A long pedal travel is usally air in the system, but can be a seal leaking in the master cyl. It could also be a ruptured inner casing in a flexible brake line, so have someone hold the brake lines in their hand whiile you press the pedal & they can feel if it swells. Quote
maatthayes Posted October 19, 2012 Author Report Posted October 19, 2012 haha i still don't get to drive for another year hence it being a project and i was just gonna hit it all at once when i have a couple days changing stuff, but cheers for the advice guys, helpful as Quote
altezzaclub Posted October 19, 2012 Report Posted October 19, 2012 i still don't get to drive for another year hence it being a project Well, stripped & straight onto a rotisserie.. The ideal time to get an immaculate rust-free body, perfect suspension and a great little 4K. By the end of the summer you could have it repainted and just like this- http://www.rollaclub.com/board/topic/62843-ke70-sedan-one-of-a-kind-immaculate-100000-kms-3500/ How bad is the car overall? Got pics? Got plans? Paddock basher or road car? Quote
LittleRedSpirit Posted January 2, 2013 Report Posted January 2, 2013 A rear ae86 strut brace wont fit. Quote
