Jason Posted July 21, 2006 Report Posted July 21, 2006 Time has come were i can put my motor in the car :hammer: how ever i don't have an engine crane, so I'm wondering should i hire a crane for a day and put the motor and Gbox in together or get a couple of mates over to help lift the motor in then attache the gearbox one the motors in? Ive never put a motor in a car before so I'm open to all suggestions Quote
coln72 Posted July 21, 2006 Report Posted July 21, 2006 I'd hire a crane or a block and tackle. By the time you paid for the beer your mates drank you could have paid for the crane :hammer: Quote
Jono Posted July 21, 2006 Report Posted July 21, 2006 ^^ go the crane, i found it easy and i'd never put a motor in before. i put the gearbox onto the motor first and then dropped em in. Quote
Medicine_Man Posted July 21, 2006 Report Posted July 21, 2006 You could borrow mine if you want to, Going to be a pain in the arse to transport it though, probably would have to dis-assemble it.. Quote
Dan Posted July 21, 2006 Report Posted July 21, 2006 I've got a gantry that we fabricated a while back and use a block and tackle. Best thing to use, ever, I've used engine cranes and stuff before but found it nowhere as near as practical as the block and tackle setup... You could always stack shit up on either side of the car, find a sturdy piece of wood or steel and slowly drop it in from there.. But engine crane would be practical for you, yeah. Don't bother with my shit, I'm tired and can't concentrate and none of this probably makes sense as per normal... lol Dan. Quote
demuire Posted July 21, 2006 Report Posted July 21, 2006 I've got one that you can borrow, and it's probably already disassembled. Someone in Brisbane has it (I've been trying to get it back for... years). If you want it let me know and I can try to find out who and you can pick it up from them... Quote
love ke70 Posted July 21, 2006 Report Posted July 21, 2006 you can also borrow mine if you wish, they really are the only way to go, and make sure engine and box are all together before entering vehicle :hammer: Quote
Jason Posted July 21, 2006 Author Report Posted July 21, 2006 aswome you guys are great :hammer: ill have to get back to see which week end i have free Quote
thomo Posted July 22, 2006 Report Posted July 22, 2006 i use a hoist for the car and a forklift and sling for the motor and box, total overkill but SOOO easy that being said it took 2 days to replace the motor in a hiace this week (comes out under the van, had lpg) Quote
chrisandliz[RL] Posted July 23, 2006 Report Posted July 23, 2006 if you pull the gearbox out, you and a mate can lift the engine out!!! me and my wife did it. so you and a strong mate can do it easy!!! (and my wife is not a russin weight lifter) Quote
Brendo Posted July 26, 2006 Report Posted July 26, 2006 my mates 86.... we unbolted the blown up 4ac from the gearbox to pull it out, we then dropped the new motor in onto the mounts then just worked it untill it lined up with the bell housing studs. is your gearbox already in? we found it wasnt too much work rather than bolting the box to the motor and dropping it all in at once... meh ne ways its up to u bro cheers Brendan Quote
Jason Posted July 26, 2006 Author Report Posted July 26, 2006 note to self invest in engine crane * just quicky droped the motor in byitself to make sure it clears every thing, so easy ! Quote
camerondownunder88 Posted July 26, 2006 Report Posted July 26, 2006 Hi, Me and trev the other day got a motor out using motor bike straps that are used on the trailer to tow it withteh two hooks. As it was then lift and pul strap tight and repeat...lol So I would say going in could be easy this way but I would try to get a crane first. Cameron Quote
