vpw do line lock kits pretty cheaply. a line lock kit is an electronic solenoid that you install on the front brake line as close to the MC as possible, and put a switch in the cabin, usually a SPST on the steering wheel, easily within range of a thumb. mash the brakes, push the button, release the brakes, fluid isn't allowed to return so it keeps compressing the front calipers, then pick first and accelerate. this is how all the serious drag cars (i luv u GRIMAS) do Big Smokey Burnouts , they're also just plain streetcar fun :) not sure if they're legal on the street, i wouldn't think a cop would be too chuffed that you had one though http://www.google.com/search?q=line+lock+kit

mm thought that would be it. at least its japanese :)

graham's 1G made 400Nm of torque at the wheels, at 2800rpm or something stupidly low like that. it could also bag up, yeah, pretty well :) what v6 do you want to use? i hope not a commodore motor, there are plenty other sixes out there with more potential. if i was going to make a totally unbalanced corolla burnout car i'd put a blown v8 in it like YLDTOY, f@$k that thing goes off

whenever i pay for a mechanic to do anything, i take my stuff to a guy up the road from my work who buys so many genuine toyota parts he may as well be an extension of the factory workshop. g&h car repairs it's called. one of his mechanics had a ke55 magazine car (david brooks' blue one with 5k if anyone has old hot4s) and the owner graham himself built a ke70 with a 1ggte. he says it was just a tad nose heavy to drive on the street (but i figure if you can make a ke20 with a 327 handle, you can get anything to) but in a straight line - phew! go 1G :)

mm, here here engine prices change alot, have a look in hot 4s / fast fours or call some local importers. when you start doing it yourself, there's alot more options, how to fit the engine in, what to reco/upgrade and what to leave like it is, how to upgrade the brakes, diff, wheels, etc. usually time is in direct proportion to money spent most important: have a talk to an engineer before you spend ONE CENT, ask what HE wants you to do, and work around that

the earlier headlights and 4K tell me that's a KE70. afaik, 71s have slanted headlights that wrap around more. on your firewall in the engine bay there will be stamped the VIN, it will be KE70-123456 or something like that, it will tell you for sure and f@$k, look at the dish on those wheels, they are wicked! :) how wide are they? what tyres you running?

that's a tough one, it could be so many things incorrect drum adjustment, broken/stretched drum springs, sticking handbrake cable, leaking/siezing brake cylinders/pistons, clogged brake lines or master cylinder, bent/warped drums/discs, moisture on brakes causing rust, bent/siezing pedal pivot, incorrect pedal adjustment, leaking/siezing booster, maybe even a blocked vent in fluid cap causing pressure buildup so basically just renew your whole brake system and you should be fine :) man imagine how much that would cost - discs and drums, lines, pads and shoes, handbrake cable, master cylinder, caliper rebuild, fluid. labour if you paid someone else to do it. not much change from $1500 there ay. i bet you'd have the best stopping corolla in the world if you did it though!

i'm assuming that because you're asking a cost figure for a conversion, you can't do any work yourself. a rough drive-in-drive-out figure would be between 10 and 15 thousand australian dollars. one of my mates got his 1200 ute fitted with a gze, 180sx front brakes, r31 lsd and some 15" wheels (yes this is the white one with qld plates that anthony kellam did last year). it cost him $16k, drive in drive out i have heard rumors of ca18 equipped silvias being fitted with sr20det for $5k drive in drive out. but that's a car that doesn't need a diff or brake upgrade. and it is just a rumor beyond that, ring around and see what places want to charge you. it shouldn't be too hard for a decent place to give you a fairly solid figure. budget a little more just in case. if they f@$k you round, politely say thanks and hang up let us know what you find out

Tom Carter spent US$60k on his car. US$20k alone of that is in the rear end. mmm nice
-
define "a while". you mean like a week or like 6 months? are all brakes seizing or just the fronts/backs? what sort of conditions is the car kept in? is everything adjusted properly? pedal stop and travel, master cylinder, brake shoes, etc

sometimes you can get things cheaper than supercheap, but nothing more jamie than superjamie! oh hey i did some experiments with one of those speed advisory signs, turns out my speedo is only 1-2% out, plus 6.6% for running wrong ratio tires (185/70/13 vs 185/60/13). it's handy with the wrong tires though, mph x 1.5 = km/h, real easy to figure out in your head :) though i'd rather some correct ratio a539s or fm901s -

you heard of Yager's? performance shop known for building stupid things like rwd 4ag 20v powered moke. they run alstonville wreckers. total dickheads to deal with, but they have a dyno and a flowbench i have a visa so i can buy things i can't afford and go "swipe" and worry about it later :) i'll get a proper fire extinguisher from somewhere good, everything from supercheap breaks -

dyno time to get an AFR reading and play around with my spark a bit is about $120 at alstonville wreckers -

i should. unfortunately i've got more pressing things to spend my $$$ on at the moment. such as paying off my visa. and i'd rather a fire extinguisher, good front suspension, and one of those melbourne lsd things before an ego display :) -
lol, i know what you mean ^_^

i have two jaycar mixture LED kits, made, at home. i can easily get bosch and ntk single, three or four wire EGOs from stewart. having a sensor halfnut welded into the extractors is easy too but then you have to calibrate it. and without having that sensor in an efi car, tuning it for stoich, then putting the whole lot back into my car, it's a pointless exercise of course i could install the parts and tune it off a dyno ego... hmm -

mmm, carby dyno tuning *spurt* i was thinking about going into a dyno place up the road here, just to get a readout of my AFR for tuning purposes -

holy shit! good luck with a speedy recovery. sounds like you were a bee's dick away from ending up in a wheelchair -
yes because i often let people poo on my car? i'd be in for a meet at the ATD. do you have to "book" a spot or can you just turn up? i can't really guarantee i'll be there yet

i figure a paper filter is going to suffer a shitload less heat soak than the metal filter housing. sometimes i'd put my hand on that thing and think "mm great intake temp there jamie" be careful with that. i ran my way holley too rich, it used to backfire on decelleration. i thought it sounded really cool (well it did) until i blew the air horn off the top of the carb and had fuel from the exposed float bowls pissing onto the extractors. ahh the things we do when young and foolish -

i've never really had a problem with winter/summer engine bay heat. it might change your idle speed a bit and knock 5km/h off your top speed, but it's no big deal. i can get this thing to ping anywhere because it's running 10.1:1, but that's all throttle control. and to think i wanted to run 10.6 :D looking at the plugs it's running pretty lean. wish i had an EGO -
who needs to buy a k&n when you have an angle grinder :rolla: http://superjamie.fotki.com/cars/mango/200...engine_bay.html http://superjamie.fotki.com/cars/mango/200...budget_air.html http://superjamie.fotki.com/cars/mango/200...gine_bay-2.html http://superjamie.fotki.com/cars/mango/200...gine_bay-3.html i took some more random photos of the car if anyone's interested http://superjamie.fotki.com/cars/mango/page3.html i've changed the tappet cover for one with two pipes for ventilation, put another uniflow pod on, just gave it a quick wipe with mothers and some 2000 grit, i'll polish it on the wheel some other time. have added 10mm ignition leads. cbf putting the washer bottle back in, it leaks :D i've also gone back to bp5 spark plugs, i didnt like 6s. i've also used a clutch horn rubber at the adjuster to solve that cable stretch problem i had with the HD clutch. next i want to wrap the exhaust

GRINS :D how is cameron anyway? last time i talked to him he said he'd got hid of that fwd datsun piece of shit and had an sr20det ke70 with 220kw at the wheels. i keep meaning to come up and show him my car. not even fook has seen it since the rebuild, i'll try come up in may sometime

lets think of all the corolla histories we can trace ke35. dealer -> some lady -> swardy -> gary -> me -> fook ke25. cameron -> me
