  1. Shits and giggles!! :P Sorta like I was when I started, just playing and learning. Now I'm bit....first the rotor bug, now the forced K bug! :bash: Just real basic shit man, mild J, no (sufficient) fuel set up...yet. Dizzy wasn't even locked today! :lolcry: Can't see it being anywere near as fast as the roller WILL BE! :bash: Gimme time. Mind you these things must weigh like as much as a left testicle, so that'l make a bit of difference.
  2. Think that CT12 was pretty "well oiled" befor you got it Cam!!! :lolcry: Just for the record guys, with the info provided by Madrolla68 last night, this was running 5psi this arvo! :P That was just with a cable tie holding the solenoid back a bit. Gotta go help with a couple of other things tomoz (mainly fuel setup) so I might take a couple more pics and maybe a vid. Its in a tough looking little 1200 ute BTW. Has little bolt ons like mine and dishy wheels. Looks tough! :bash:
  3. Its not a waste gate!!!! Its a vacuum solenoid. :lolcry: And it is the problem. Matt mentioned this before, that you can double the capacity of the engine when using a deisel turbo, as the petrol engine will do roughly twice the RPM of the deisel motor. I imagine that part of the reason for the large rear housing is also because it has the VNT system built into it.
  4. It doesn't!!!! That is just one way of doing things, like I did, see avatar pic of engine bay. Provided all of the seals and gaskets in the carby are ok, you don't have to run the carby enclosed like I did.
  5. Hi Des, So does your thermo fan come on at 100oC!! :lolcry: Thats a bit high, should be more like 80-90oC, ie befor the water starts to boil!! If you've got a thermo switch fitted, turn it down a bit. If not, get one. Yes you could put a small thermo on the oil cooler. Rather than having it on a switch in the cabin, you could have this thermostatically controlled too! Then you don't have to remember to flick it! Next question...... So I'm assuming the normal rad thermo fan is on the back of the rad, and you want to put the small one on the front? If so, make sure your using a push fan on the front and a pull fan on the back. Each will flow air the other way with the wires reversed, but there will be a noticable difference in flow if its set up the specified direction. If you say have a small fan on the front (for the oil cooler)and a big one on the back for the rad, then the rad fan will most likely be more efficient. All that is going to happen with the different flow rates is the big rad fan will take the load off the small oil cooler fan, altimately making it more efficient!! :P
  6. :lolcry: Jeez am I glad I logged off last night when I did!! Sbox, we understand that you work on deisel turbos.........So does Matt......different types of deisel turbos. And you sorta made yourself look like the goose here through aguing about it the way you have. Remeber arguing on the internet is like running in the speacial olympics, even if you win, your still retarded!! :P ^thats not a personal attack on you, merely a statement. We now know how this particular turbo works......end of story. :bash: TREV - Was originally posted as I thought the reason he wasn't getting boost was the fact he had a 3 litre turbo on a 1.2 litre motor. We now know this is not correct. However, I know I have now learnt quite a lot more about turbos, thanks to this thread, and I'm sure many others have to. And really mate,.....what did Cameron do to deserve the title "village idiot"!? :bash: I why do we need to get rid of him!!?? We all do stuff they may be considered danderous, he was trying to illistrate how air hitting the wheel on different angles will generate more turbo RPM.
  7. yeah I've seen deisel generators like that before sbox with no gate, sounds cool when you load them up hard you can hear them spool! :y: I'm an audio visual tech, no it not hard to pull a coupla thousand watts in an instant! So how's this for an idea...If you replaced that solinoid with a normal petrol waste gate, and set it up so that when the gate was static it has the rod pulled back towards the engine. Then when you put boost on the waste gate it will cover the exhaust wheel controlling boost. D'reckon it'd work? :P I know it'd just be a hell of a lot easier to just change the turbo, but I'm just trying to think of a way to work with what he's already got. :)
  8. :P Got it, cheers. So if you do use a deisel turbo on a petrol car, whats an easy way to control boost? :y:
  9. Yeah I know how a normal waste gate works man. I'm sick I trying to explain it to my mates! :y: But I think these deisel turbo work different, read Matt's post above^
  10. Ok I'm sorta with it now, but theres still one think I can't quite understand. Trying to think of a way of explaining this... Vacuum at manifold = Gate closing (or wheel exposed) = Makes boost No boost or vac at manifold = gate opened (or wheel covered) = boost control (sorta) But, Boost at manifold = more of the above effect creating a loss of boost! :y: OR, do these diesel waste gates also do something (in the other direction) when they have boost on them? Do you get what I'm asking? Casue I've half confused myself!! :P
  11. Yeah 3 litre patrol turbo......1.2 litre engine! :y: Theres actually a vacumm line from the manifold to the gate, its post butterfly. Do those actuators work in reverse or something Matt? Ie vacumm pulls gate shut? If so then how does boost control work!? :P
  12. Had to explain the finer points of carby turbos to the owner. Can anybody see why he has no boost!? :y: Engine is an A12.

S5 RX7 calipers AND discs. Discs were re-drilled in 4 x 110, just flaoting hub style, but the 25mm 4x110-4x114.3 spacer/pattern changer bolts it all down. Nah, haven't weighed the FW yet....come to think of it, I don't have scales!! :y:
  15. Or a small tub of white paint and a brush!! :P Find NickZ's project thread to see some portawalls or "flappers" :y:
  16. I'm just about to get a mandrel steam pipe manifold made for the 5k. I was quoted $400 if I supply flanges. Would have bought the busted flange off ya, but I just bought one!! :y: I'm assuming its a T2 flange? Out of interest, what is that turbo? GT25/GT28?\ Edit: just looked at carsdomain. Hmm, boogy spud!!
  17. Got a couple of turbos to choose from now! T25G on the right, R32 GTR on the left..... This pic show the difference in the dump pipe flanges between the 2. Have a GTR dump pipe on the way. T25G is the top one.

Change of wheels and a decent wash went a long way on the weekend!!
  19. FFS, how do you use a computer if your eyes don't work!? :D http://www.rollaclub.com/board/index.php?showtopic=2341
  20. If you didn't notice he's actually welding something!! :D
  21. I just put some AE86 TRD 8-way adjustable in the back of my car! Direct bolt in..... They are just awesome!! :y:
  22. :y: thanks John
