  1. I just got a 5k (no box) sent from sydney to Tassie for $180 through tasfreight. they are nation wide though.
  2. well thats one advantage of old toyotas over old mazdas, they are netorious for rusting out the windscreen corners, but thats also probably due to the way they are attached with the chrome strips around them. :bash:
  3. Been trying to find out the origin of the "disco potato" name, haven't found anything yet. Simon is now a very :bash: boy, becasue he just got back from the freight depot...... This will be stripped back tonight and start having the turbo stuff bolted on. Also picked this up on the week end. Will have to work out how to do a few things before it goes anywere near the car.... how does that bolt to a K I hear you ask........well hopefully with this!!
  4. also looking at this picture again, the w50 (2nd from left) seems to have the 2 bolts at the top, can't see the 3rd at the bottom cause its too dark.
  5. Ok guys, thought I might give you all a bit of an update on were I'm at with the w50 upgrade. The Bellhousing I pictured is currently on its way accross the Tasman, should be here this week some time!! :bash: Pickup a w50 on the week end thanks to Jamesrolla....but I'm a little unsure about the bolt pattern now, when I picked up we realised the w50 has 7 bolts to the bell housing, not 4 like whats on the bell housing, see pic below. But since James was easy on a return policy I took it anyway. I'm thinking that maybe 4 of these 7 bolts WILL STILL bolt to the bell housing. I have circled them below. Actually looking at the 2 pics like that, it looks very possible. Next thing I am going to have to sort out is the clutch issue. This bellhousing still uses a cable in the hiace so that bit is easy, just need to use the stock ke55 cable and clutch fork. The actual clutch it the hard part!! The input shaft of the w50 is much bigger than a k40/k50, can see in above pics, however the spiggot shaft does look about the same. As the km20 bell housing also still uses a stock k starter motor I am restricted to using the k flywheel. The ra40 (which the w50 is from) has a flywheel that is to big for a k bellhousing, so I can't use this even if it did bolt on. So at this stage I think I have 2 options: 1, get a custom made clutch that has the diametre of a k clutch, but the input spline of a w50. 2, modify the k flywheel to take the ra40 clutch kit. This would included machining a bigger clutch contact area on the flywheel, and also re-drill and tapping holes for the pressure plate to bolt to. The problem after that is then going to be the throw out bearing!! I was planning on using the k clutch fork, but weather this will even fit over the w50 input shaft we will have to see! if it does i will then have to modify the w50 throw out bearing retainer to connect to it, but looking at the above pics they seem to use the same wire clips. If this doesn't work I thought that maybe you could machine out the middle of the k throw out bearing retainer enough to clear the w50 input shaft, but I doubt it has enough meat on it!! Will now have to wait for the bell housing to get here to work a few things out, but will have a play with clutch fork etc tonight. Will keep you all updated as I go. :y:
  6. Nice! :bash: So do you have a full exhaust and stuff for it now? Not that its too loud without one, just makes the funny "on-boost" noise.
  7. whens the turbo stuff going into it?? :bash:
  8. I find a MUCH easier way than the grease method is to pack in behind the bearing with wet news paper!! use a spare imput shaft if you've got one (clutch locator) and just keep packing more and more paper in there, you'll be surprised how much you use! When I say wet, it doesn't have to be drenched, just dunk it, and give it a light wring out. you might need to use a hammer to pack the paper in well with the clutch locator too. :bash:
  9. ...but you could give liegh a six pac too! :bash:
  10. well I'd mainly want the head, rocker cover, dizzy, alt etc. Do you want the bottom end?

Yeah I was looking at doing it other way, to just keep the rolla body on the rolla chassis and just change everything below that!!

That idea was hatched when we were camping about 2 months ago at a beach with heaps of sand dunes. Had a v8 rangey, and a couple of 4 wheelers and were sitting round the camp fire thinking :sob: how cool would it be to have the rolla out here.

Well guys, being thinking of what to do with my old '55, the dented up old bitch that used to have the 4ktc in it..... this car.... For a few months now I have been toying with the idea of converting it to 4x4 with suzuki sierra running gear! Because the sierras have a seperate gear box and 4wd transfer case, the plan was to put both sieraa diffs, the transfer case, front leaves and a mix match of steering racks. Sierras and corolla are pretty close in chassis rails spacing. Now due to me not being able to find a written off sierra or running gear at a price I'm happy with, I've come up with another plan for the car in the mean time - an entry class Tas rally car. :sob: I really like getting the arse out on some gravel (as does everybody) and have always been interested in starting competitive rallying. My uncle also rallies a ae82 in Qld, so could have some support there too. This car will also be road registered. :hmm: Ok, so the rough plans for now are: Exterior: replace dented drivers door and passenger front guard (have both of these) maybe try making 1 good stone tray out of 2 dented one (each is dented on oposite sides). Maybe some more MMS bolt ons to fix the rust in the rear arches. Interior: Stripped as much as possible. Maybe some alloy door trims. Simple new dash face with a few essential guages - This will just be a sheet of checker plate most likely with guages, not making it prtty like the other one I made. Maybe some fixed back seats if I find them at the right price. I am led to believe that roll cages are not essential for the entry class, but will most likely end up having one. A mate has one that came out of a capella I can get cheap, width of the car is right, will just need to lower the main hoop by 100mm the make it fit the rolla. Wheels & tyres: what ever I'm not using on the other car, with some second hand rally tyres - no were I can get these cheap as chips. Engine: Plan is to use the 4k which is currently in the other car with the turbo set up with a blow HG. Looks like I might re-build it as I might get some pistons, rings and gudgeons for $20 + freight!!! Just bought a new water pump for it. The 4k also has the camtech 609 lumpstick which I think would be perfectly suited for rally as it has good top end (to about 7000rpm) but still very acceptable torque. I bought some extractors of Flat_out that were going to be modded into a turbo exhasut manifold, but I will now be making a steam pipe custom item, so these extractors will now go on the rally car. Carby will be a mazda 626 nikki, which works really well on a k. thanks to Leigh I will be getting a 3k shortly. I'm thinking I will use the 3k head on the 4k after a bit of reconditioning and maybe some porting. I've got a 3k bigport inlet manifold, so I'd port the head to the size of these runners. Everything else engine wise will be pretty stock except for possibly an electric fuel pump and reg. Drive train: Stock K40, with possible K50 upgrade at later stage. But as this car's duties will mostly be rallying, the k40 will do fine I think. Will also use the CIG locker that still occupies the housing of this car. I am starting to now except that the good car will probably be off the road for a month or 2 while the EFI, new turbo, manifold, exhaust etc etc is done, so once the turbo kit is removed and sold, priorty will go to the old car for a week to get it on the road to drive while the good car is being "re-built". And in the event of me finding a written off or very cheap sierra at a later stage the 4x4 '55 might still go ahead.
  14. How about I give you a paper clip, some pocket lint, a six pack of your fav brew and I'll even throw in some belly button fluff!? :sob: the 3k head can go on my NA 4k for the old car!
  15. what a freebie leigh?? I'll take it for parts if so!
  16. cool I'll give you a call sms before I come up then. Just went round to Gaunt street wreckers for Jip, and what did I find..... KE50.... and there was also a ke70 wagon that had a bigger booster in it.... wanted $40 each. :sob:
  17. Cool I'll take it for $15, might pop this arvo and pick it up. Whe you get home can you just double check that it has 11 holes per side, just incase its a 3k one that has 9 bolts a side. (jezz its sad I remeber that!) I'm happy to swap you the mc and booster, just prefer it to be a last resort option. :sob:
  18. Nah I ended up getting it freighted through tasfreight. A lot cheaper than TNT and a shite load easier to deal with. Would you consider selling the sump off your spare 4k? if so how much?
  19. didn't happen to buy that off a guy called dwayne in hobart did you casey?? BTW, what are you doing with your 4k? how much would you want for it?
  20. :sob: :hmm:   :hmm: Look at the size of that carby!!!! looks like a single throut stromberg. Stock k carbies are bigger than that!! :lolcry:
  21. FTW = For the win. something I've only picked up from THIS website. Cool I'll make note of limits of in built map sensors when I'm searching.
  22. The mx6 cooler has been sold with the carby set up. Probably be using a 13bt top mount, that has been modded for frount mount.....for the pricely sum of a six pack of TED's!! Need it soo if you read this ED! :sob: Its flowed over 20psi before with no dramas. As for injectors looks like I will have the choice of GZE ones or maybe even some 1J items. speaking of map sensors, will i deffinately need one? or does it depend on what type of ECU I use?? Oh yeah HKS ftw!! :hmm: Disco potato is a GT28RS, very common upgrade for drift sr20's as the make real good power with some high boost, but are also really reponsive. http://cgi.ebay.com.au/Garrett-GT28RS-Disc...VQQcmdZViewItem
  23. Think you find its a holinger trans axle gear box casey. Basically like a bug/combo box.
  24. more than you!! :D the eventual plan is be running around 25psi, but this may well be done with a disco potato or GT25/30 etc in around another 12 months. we'll see. and yes, I am looking into injectors. Thinking maybe 4agze items as they can support 73hp each. That give me total hp potential of over 300hp, which the 5k will never make. twincharging may also be on the cards within next 12 months also!! :)
  25. alright, I'll give ya $3k :D
