Pictured bell housing is still in NZ, have now been offered a couple so will have to look at some options, advantages etc and I'll give you a deffinate answer. Actually you may be able to help a little more in this process!! I need to find out what sort of clutch, fly wheel etc I will need to run with this combo. Would the clutch you mentioned with the box bolt onto a k? if you don't know, any chance you could go check for me? by the sounds of it, its not like you don't have them all laying about!! :jamie: :y:
  3. 90% sure the shifter will end up half way between were it is now and the handbrake. Since you have both a ke70 and ke30 box, measure from the front of the bell housing to the centre of the shifter hole on each. The difference will be the distance it moves back. :jamie: looking at this pic it only seems to be 2 inches max!!
  4. S'all good Matt, some interesting (for both of us) little things popping up in this thread now. Don't know about tunnel clearance in a ke10, nothing a hammer won't fix though!! :jamie: :y: Here's something else top bare in mind though: the big bearing t50's (ae86) have a shifter position to that of a ke70 k40/50, where as the earlier ta22 ones will line up with the original ke1*-ke55 shifter hole. Doubt there'd be much strength difference between them, all just t50's. reckon any T box wil be strong enough for us any day of the week anyway if they run them behind 253's etc!!
  5. So would I be correct in assuming that the 40 and 50 are the same as k numbers? ie, a w40 is a 4 speed and a w50 is a 5 speed?
  6. Cool thanks for the replies guys. :jamie: Yeah I reckon the w50 in that pic looks pretty close, just hard to tell cause its dark. So what is a w50 actually out of?? and would anybody have any idea of how the shifter is gunna line up with a ke55??

  10. Yeah its a toss up between those 2. Since all of my toyota parts experience is K based, I don't know what this side should look like for a T or W!
  11. Hey guys thought I might as well add to this thread with some info on fitting a W50 to a K motor. See page 3 for installation info. :jamie: any body recognise that gear box bolt pattern?? Bell housing is apparently out of one of those K utes (republica).
  12. Coolio, my set up should be ready to pick up by the end of the week, well it bloody better be, so I'll find out about it for you. If you provide a cardboard template or something it'll make it a lot easier. I'll let you know too ancullen, I'm getting good at hooking you up with brake bits hey!?
  13. Just get them made Casey. I needed brackets made for the s4 4 pots on the rx4, Belly from S&D Auto (down chuchill park road) is doing the brakes for me and he just got a contact at ACL to laser cut them for me.

I'll tell you when I get the cable modded and actually get them working!! :jamie: Only adjustment will be on the handle that all cars have, but they are also self tightening as the pads wear.\ Don't know what sort of discs I'm using (they're pretty decent vented rotors) as I bought this set up as is on another diff (bigger) and just refreshed everything. I had to go through a Bendix catalogue and match the old pads to the pictures to find out what the calipers were!! :y: Mazda has been in hiding for nearly 6 months as I had a security issue (someone stole me keys!) and I've been busy working on the rolla anyway. Gotta do some work on it pretty soon so I'll take some pics. :fuzz:

  16. shouldn't really matter Casey what model they are off, just make up the mounting brackets for the calipers you end up getting. Just because somebody has used 244 calipers before, doesn't mean YOU can't use 240 ones. :y: And actually, on the topic of dak dak calipers - There is actually a type of subi caliper that is awesome for a rear disc up grade being that from the 1969 sport L wagon. You actually use the front calipers from the subi and put them on the back of your car. being from the front of a car, they are more than big enough for a decent up grade, but also, because the subi has the hand brake on the FRONT WHEELS rather than the rear they still have hand brake brackets, attachements etc on them!! :jamie:

  23. yeah I've made 70rwkw with a 4k on 8psi. had it running somewhere in the region of 20psi last week and I roughly calculated it would be 106rwkw, and I know that still won't run as quick as 14 flat. Lighter car would obviously make it quicker, but still a bit amazed that an NA 3k could run that quick!! Not syaing I don't think its not possible at all, yeah, just very amazed!!
  24. yeah car must have weighed like 400kg or something!!!! actually, there is a very hot 3k powered ke10 here in tassie that is supposed to have run a 13 something!!
