  1. Speedway racer :D
  2. IT LIVES!!! Listen to the first roar and rumble of Hal :D Got the engine in the car today, plugged it all in and cranked it over a few times without the leads to get the oil pressure up a bit, discovered a problem - my 40A circuit breaker isn't big enough, and looks like the starter uses more than 40A... So it cuts after about 2-3 seconds of cranking... Not good... Anyway, put a sheet of aluminium against the side of the engine to protect the ignitor and coil and wiring and paint from the exhaust, plugged in the lead and cranked it over, started first go!!! GAWD IT'S LOUD :rolla:
  3. Umm... Not sure about this but doesn't the VL have an external fuel pump? I know my pump is out of a VL and it's an external pump...
  4. Umm... You need to get an in-tank pump to suit your tank. For one thing, it needs to sit at the bottom of your tank, and it needs to be secured somehow. If you're lucky you might be able to adapt something from a different car, but that's up to you to experiment.
  5. Probably easiest to swap the AE71 box over. Should bolt in, if not shouldn't take much to bolt it in. Fuel setup, best to get an in-tank, but they aren't common. With a KE70 (sedan) you can put the surge tank in the boot, or under the car, or in the engine bay, but talk to your engineer before mounting it. Some engineers have preference for where it should be.
  6. Wow... My KE55 owes me more than $3000... And my AE35 owes me about $8500...
  7. If nothing is coming out then yes, my guess would be master cylinder is stuffed. Take it out, visually inspect it, especially in the bores. If it looks really cruddy then get a new one, they aren't too expensive. If it looks okay and you feel adventurous get a rebuild kit and have some fun :D I used a Pajero one because my brakes are rather big. With the stock brakes the Pajero unit will most likely be too big... But no, no complications apart from new front brake line. Everything else is bolt on.
  8. Oh wow, $500 for that? That's... really good. Wow...
  9. Umm... Hmm, never really heard of this happening, but could happen I guess... Maybe try to remove the front line and see if the master cylinder actually pushes any fluid out? Then at least you'll know if it's the master cylinder or not... Oh yeah, remember to catch all the fluid that comes out and keep it off the paintwork. Brake fluid is nasty on paint...
  10. Xany: if you make your own - I take it your belts aren't ADR complianced anymore?
  11. New seatbelts you'd be scatching around for awhile. Maybe Toyota. I haven't been able to find a set of aftermarket ones that have the extra length on the top... However, the blue coupe I mentioned in the email has a pretty good set of seatbelts in it...
  12. There're quite a few Datsun1200 (A12) turbo setups around, blowthrough I believe. Not sure what turbo they use, but my mate has just set one up, next time I speak to him I'll ask him...
  13. Do you think I'll have Hal on the road by then?
  14. It wouldn't go around corners...
  15. I think All Toyota Day is like on the 14th or something...
  16. Ray's Westfield (that John navs in) is soooo cool. Mmm for S2000 power and lots of carbon fibre!
  17. http://www.targa.org.au/downloads/applicat..._mar30_2004.pdf Woo Hoo for number 835: 835 Jon Atherton, QLD / Melinda Both, QLD 1997 Nissan Skyline GT-R V-Spec N1 :D :rolla: :fuzz:
  18. Nah I'd still prefer an Evo... Actually if I had a bucketload of money I'd also like to have an M3. And maybe a Porsche Boxter S. But no, the Evo comes before all :D And hmm, if I had even more money still I'd probably do a Bill Sherwood and make a 4WD turbo KE35 :rolla:
  19. I think the thing I like about old cars is that they have "character" - something a lot of new cars lack. Also they are cheap(er) and easier to tinker with... Don't get me wrong, I love my Corollas... But if I had to choose between my Corollas and a Lancer Evo, I know where I'll be going :D
  20. Old cars, new cars... Meh. I've driven a heap of both, throw me a new car anyday... As far as I've concluded, old cars are always like... old cars. They feel like old cars, even old cars with new'ish interiors and big flash engines still feel like old cars. New cars, true some of them are SOOOO blase, but others are SOOO nice :D Car I first learnt to drive in - Toyota Landcruiser Car I took driving lessons in - Perodua Kancil (Daihatsu Mira) - now THAT felt fast even when you were doing 20... Cars I've owned: 84' Mitsubishi Colt - most reliable and cheapest to run car I've ever had 92' Hyundai Excel - absolute piece of shit, sadly the quickest car I've ever owned 91' Mitsubishi Lancer GSR - first car I owned that actually handled 81' Toyota Corolla - most unreliable car I've ever owned. Still fun though 81' Toyota Corona - never ever drove it 75' Toyota Corolla - in bits and pieces in my garage Cars I've driven heaps: Peugeot 405 GTX - gotta love European engineering as far as a "drivers car" goes. Sucked for everything else though. Proton Wira 1.5 - haha, had heaps of fun in this when I was in college. Proton Satria GTi - I LOVE THIS CAR. Pure drivers car. Lexus IS200 - Oooooooh YEAH. Jag S - so fast, so boring... A couple of Mercs... can't remember the models Other cars I've driven (highlights anyway): A whole host of Lexus's BMW 323 Honda S2000 Porsche 911 Nissan Silvia Holden Clubsport HSV ... among other non-inspiring cars like Daewoo Lanos and Mazda 323's etc...
  21. What, so you want to use the intake to push the exhaust out? Erm... No. Everything you put in the way of the intake or exhaust is a restriction, and will decrease your power. Just so happens that the advantages of compressing the air (and cooling it) are higher than the disadvantages of having the turbo and intercooler in the way. That's why cars with bigger turbos are "laggy" ie they have virtually zero power down low - because the turbo's haven't come onto boost yet...
  22. Hey look it's Doug :D Yay, soon we'll have all the SEQ oldCorollas people here :rolla:
  23. No, Mel is Navigating, not Driving. Mel is Le Super Navigator :D
  24. Hehe, maybe should clarify - article was like a brief about Targa Tas, no names mentioned or anything... But everytime I think of Targa Tas I think of Mel... Or maybe it's the other way around... And I think I think of Targa Tas all the time. Does that mean I think of Mel all the time? :D
  25. Something that may be of interest: Track day preparation
