Makes sense to me Travis. Once you have kids your outlook changes. You are not quite so inclined to take as many risks behind the wheel. Who is going to be a father to your kids when you are dead? Most parents want to be around to watch their kids grow up. I sure do. I agree there are a hell of a lot of people out there (of all ages) that shouldn't have a license. Personally it wouldn't faze me at all to have compulsory license retesting every 5 years or so. I do think they should have better driver education available to young people in highschool, as well as making subsidised driver training and advanced driver training courses more freely available. I think a big problem these days is that with all these new "safe" cars coming out, people are more distanced from the actual dynamics of driving. You have all these safety features such as traction control, abs, airbags, and stability controls which gives a false sense of security and places less emphasis on driver skill. If the car was to get sideways the average driver wouldn't have a clue how to go about correcting it. How many cars these days teach you skills such as double clutching? I used to have an old EH with non synchro first. You either stopped to get it back into first gear, or taught yourself how to double clutch and rev match on downshifts. What about cadence braking? Most cars have abs these days, what happens if you are driving a car without abs and lock the brakes in an emergency situation?

This is what I did: My (orig 5k) hydraulic lifters had the circlips removed and the guts emptied out. The pushrod seats were dropped back into the bottom of the lifters effectively making them solids. 3k (early shorter bigport type) pushrods are used with 4k adjustable rocker gear on a 5k head. Ideally the oil gallery to the lifters in the block should be restricted/blocked, but I never got around to it. Never had any oil pressure problems at all, but I did shim the oil pump bypass spring approx 3mm to up pressure when I put it all together.

I have. :)

Won't work. Those pushrods would be about an inch longer than the A12 ones. Would need to run matching 3F lifters.
-
Ah, that is why the a12 pushrods are too long. If you have a read through posts about the chev/holden solid lifters with a12 pushrods, you will probably find they are all running 3k heads (which are taller).

You are running a 5k head right? I like the early 3k dizzy's with the octane selector. Makes it quick and easy to dial in the timing for different fuels, and weather conditions. Pity they are getting hard to find with a slop free advance mechanism.

Umm, so you are saying because you were polite to him, he should turn a blind eye to your car which obviously was unroadworthy? If you are driving a car, that has mods to make it stand out from the crowd to gain attention, you have to take the good with the bad. Think about it from the cops point of view. Do you think they enjoy going to accident scenes and scraping young people off the road who have been speeding and driving recklessly? These people deal with the scum of society on a daily basis. They are not going to be friendly and personable to everyone. You never know, he might not have gotten a bit from his missus the night before putting him in a bad mood. If you don't want attention from the boys in blue, don't make your car stand out too much. Simple as that. You are just asking for trouble while you are on your P's with personalised plates, big exhausts, dumped suspension, wheels hanging out of the guards etc. I'm not trying to come across as being 'holier than thou'. I had my share of runins with the cops, and defects when I was younger. The thing is I didn't blame the cops as it was my fault I got in the situation in the first place. If I hadn't been driving like a dick, or had bald tyres etc. they would have left me alone and concentrated on someone else. My advice. Keep it subtle on the outside, pick your time and place to let your hair down and you can get away with a lot more without hassles.

From memory, I'm pretty sure it goes to the other side of the coil. That is with the internal ignitor type. Haven't got one to check though as I sold all of mine. Unless regraphed the advance curve is all wrong on the 5k elect dizzys. A stock points dizzy will make it go harder.

KEhendo the thing is... it is hard to have trends/fads without a following of mindless sheep.

I'd much prefer a purposeful looking celica to a lookatmoi (think kath and kim) ke20 that would get it's ass handed to it by an excel. My ke15 gets quite a lot of interested looks and people asking me what it is. Most people think it is an early mazda, a fiat, or a datsun 1200 coupe. Not a rolla, but my black E32 gets an unbelievable amount of attention. The first time I put fuel in it after I got it, there was a guy in a new red R8 HSV commodore at the servo.. nobody paid any attention to his car, they were all staring at the E32. Beats driving a commodore or falcon for a family car by a million miles any day.

Make a good burnout car. Doubt you could do too much else with it, you'd never get the power down. 007 would love it, instant smoke screen to evade followers. Just needs an ejector seat for the passenger.

Yea, I think there should be a time limit and minimum post count myself. Shits me the dumb f@$ks that can't read and abide by the rules bumping forsale threads too often. Expect to see your For Sale thread simply disappear with no excuse if you can't make the effort to do the right thing.

Yea. Alpina B10 Biturbo. Still considered to be one of the best 4 door cars in the world. Faster than Ferrari Testarosa with room for five. Top speed 181MPH. 360HP twin turbo.

If he's going through 50 liters in 150 kays you would think it would have to be pissing out black smoke. :P

Fair enough. What about the water temp sensor? The ecu could possibly think the motor is cold and be running full cold fuel enrichment. As stated earlier, you should run a diagnostics check on the ecu. Then maybe with the help of a manual, and a multimeter start testing sensors.

I'd say you have 3 choices: a: Put the original gearbox back in. b: Change the speedo drive gears in your gearbox. c: Just drive the thing and learn to adapt. Only do this if your speedo reads faster than what you are actually going. Don't want someone borrowing your car getting you speeding tickets sent in the mail.

Did it have an air temp sensor in the original filter housing? Is it still hooked up after the change to the pod filter?
