Probably because 4k's are more common and cheaper than a 5k. A 5k would obviously be better with the extra torque.

The early 4age bigport pistons may have 18mm piston pins like k series, but the comp height is all wrong. The pistons would sit over 5mm down the bore at TDC. The 1G pistons comp height would likewise put the pistons approx 3.5 mm down the bore. The 1ggze pistons have 20mm piston pins. Unless you were to run longer rods the end result would be far from ideal. Having the pistons sitting so far down the block may be good to lower compression in a forced induction motor. You would end up with no squish though. Maximising squish reduces the likelihood of detonation. I wouldn't bore a 4k block out 6mm. It would most likely crack. The 5k blocks have an extra strengthening rib running below the welschplugs.

Exactly. Low and stiff will make it handle worse if it is bumpy or wet. To make your car handle all you really need is a set of slightly lower stiffer front springs, heavy duty shocks all round, and stiffen up your swaybars with urethane link and D bushes. Fit a set of semi-metallic pads to the front, and spend up on a set of decent 185/60x14 performance tyres (yoky c-drives or eqiv), which you could throw on a set of celica/tarago 14x5.5" steelies. Most guys tend to get carried away with themselves going for the LOOK, and changing shit just for the sake of it because it sounds cool.

K motor pushrods won't work. AFAIK the pushrod cup in the chev lifters sits a lot higher than what it would in a k series solid lifter. A12 pushrods are about and inch shorter than 3k ones from what I've seen in pushrod catalogues.

It should work fine with appropriately sized pushrods. The only problem might be finding an off the shelf solution. You might have to get some custom made. I guess you could always make a checking pushrod using an old K series pushrod. Cut it in 2, trim to length, tap them, install a threaded rod with some locking nuts and adjust the length to suit. Use this to determine the proper length and get some custom ones made up. Something like this:
