wow really? i checked it with engine off...... but i filled it up above the fill line...(just) it went to the shop today.....will hear the story tonight hopefully...
-
yeah id say you are crazy:P though its a shame when you hear about a couple with 10kids, that have all been taken into care by the government becuase they do nice things like......er.......abuse them and not feed them. Then you read up on the adoption system in Australia, and its damn near impossible for decent parents, who can't have kids of their own, to adopt a child.

holy dooly thats commitment to that engine! id just cut your losses and get another running 4k. 100bucks will get you something running, swap it over in an afternoon and your back on the road. alternatively, compression test and all will be revealed. If its low - head off down to machinist for a condition report.

well i didnt do any work at all they paid a shop to do it. some transmission shop down at capalaba, needed the car back ASAP.
-
dunno.... good question though.

Automatic transmissions, namely my complete lack of understanding and ability to do anything with them. My girlfriends brother and wife have a 96 nissan pulsar, completely not mechanically minded, but pretty switched on (doing medicine at uni). ~8 weeks ago the auto transmission packed it up. sort of just reved up and down, no drive in any of the gears. 2 options: 1: rebuild auto, ~$2000 including labour 2: get 2nd hand from wreckers, ~$1000 including labour (gbox was $500 i think) keep in mind a 96 bsae model (GXi?)pulsar is worth maybe 4-5k? They are very strapped for cash (wife's wage, he's at uni full time doing medicine) so went with option 2, on sort of my recomendation but with no responsibility attached, i figured they can't be unlucky and get a dud one right? car has only done 160k's i think. saturday just gone, the automatic transmission packed it up again. when i got to it, it was low on oil (very low...but still registering on the gearstick at least) which can be attributed to a leak i found just after they got the replacement done, which they did nothing about of course....no drive in any of the gears, wouldnt let me go into "p" with engine on, horrible noise came out of it. and it didnt really load up the engine when you engaged "D" at a standstill, just sort of did nothing. Now this was on the side of the road where it packed it up. there was about 5 of us standing around, me being the only tech savy person there. And i had absolutely no idea what to do with the automatic gearbox. we added a bit of oil, didnt change anythign what so ever. how does it work? seems you can't make the car do ANYTHING with a stuffed auto. at least if you break a gear in a manual, you can get home in one of the other gears (at the expense of the clutch....). and if you break a clutch you can get the car home, at the expense of the starter motor.... stupid autos.

i wouldnt bother...just buy a sprinter! RA65 is certainly a good option, much better than the ugly front... unless you have and ambition of this guy: clicky

http://www.club4ag.com/faq_and_tech_pages/ECU%20Japan%20AE86%204A-GE.htm check this mate. (ae86 and ae82 are the same, i have interchanged the ECU's) looking at the ECU (not the wires, i suspect you are looking at the wires) the 2 far right pins need to be powered up (both top and bottom) and the pin one pin in from the right is constant power (according to that link)

can you swing a spanner? nothing all that complicated about changing a headgasket on a K motor.

haha brilliant. yeah underpassing can't be avoided sometimes. what has surprised me lately, after doing a fair bit of highway driving on the xmas/new year break, alot of people arent doing the speed limit, they all sit ~5km under? i had the GPS going on a trip to noosa and a few trips to the goldy, and sitting on exactly 110km/h or 100km/h (which ever is relevant), and i was sitting in the right hand lane and going past everyone... and at the sight of any car parked on the side of the road they slam on the brakes and are now doing 15km/h under... mmm speed cameras stop accidents, not sure about that.

custard anything is the good stuff. i got quite addicted to beestings' from the bakery. honey custard, delishis things covered in some sort of nuts. ohh i want one.

To Do A 5K, 7K, 3Sge, 4 Age Or 2Tg Conversion???
ke70dave replied to MattJA's topic in Engine Conversions
if you can go a 20V id do that. some inspiration if you decide on 3sge. http://www.rollaclub.com/board/topic/41484-ke25-3sge-rack-pinion-full-rebuild-coilovers-price-drop/ -
To Do A 5K, 7K, 3Sge, 4 Age Or 2Tg Conversion???
ke70dave replied to MattJA's topic in Engine Conversions
i hate to put it bluntly but have you googled any of these options? everything you are talking about has been discussed to death, and actual conversions documented. We are happy to help out, but we arent going to google what you are asking and produce those links, eg: http://forums.club4ag.com/zerothread?id=52857 gains will be there, if you get an aftermarket ecu to go with it. i did 16V, was good, but you need shorter gear ratio in the back to get it going and it was just lacking a bit of power. perhaps uprated cams and head work would have surficed. i would go 20V over 16V if i did it again. helps you can get newish blacktop 4ages (~1996-96), 16Vs are getting pretty old, luckily they are reasonably cheap to rebuild (lots of parts available). consdiderably more expensive for a 20V over 16V conversion though. -
booster is fine. master cylinder is what you might need. search around about using an "r32 skyline non ABS master cylinder" i recall that being a good option. find out how big the standard sr20 s13 master cylinder is, and then find something that bolts on and has the ports in about the same spot. read that massive thread on ae86Dc again, i thought it was covered in there. (though i havent read it for years) loooky: http://www.rollaclub.com/board/topic/54438-ae86-s13-front-suspensionbrake-conversion/

i love your fibreglass work mate, great to see someone having a go. ive made a few moulds what i did last time, that worked pretty good, was covered the thing i was trying to mould with a heap load of masking tape. perhaps 3 or 4 layers, admitedly i was using a fairly small mould (a boot of a car actually, fullisik subwoofer). still hard to seperate though... also I'm not sure how you are applying it, but when i did mine, i used the crosshatch ply stuff (randomly place fibres), layed down the matt, and then applied the resin with a paint brush (cheap throw away). as the resin is applied it starts to melt the glass fibres, and i was able to get quite intricate with the mould by pushing the glass and resin into the corners. nothing too crazy, but certianly got some pretty sharp corners in my glass 'box'.

did you change the condensor on the dizzy? (under 10bucks brand new) also check the poiints gap. i think those things are about the only things you havent done ignition wise? also make sure the coil has a nice ground, it wont work if its not grounded. (ie its physically bolted to metal) good luck eh, its not much fun, been there a few times. you learn alot about your car very quickly when your stuck on the side of the road!

if you can find someone with a tow car (commodore etc), you can hire car trailers from some servo's. this exact same thing happened to me a number of years ago, i think the trailer was only 70bucks for the day.

It is certainly very sad hearing of stories like this. Sorry to hear about your mate. Good to see you continuing with the project. keep us updated eh.

there is soooooooo many oppinions on run in procedure. megasquirt...good choice! see if you can find someone who can give you a reasonable 4agte megasquirt tune (the american megasquirt forums have heaps of guys running them on a 4age/7age) thats what i would be doing to get it going. keep off the loud pedal, get it running, then get it to a tuner. there would be nothing worse than getting your car towed to a tuner, and then having to drag it home again because they can't get it going. have a chat to your tuner before hand though, he may make some suggestions. any good tuner would have had experience tuning brand new engines before.

still getting bubbles after 50mins....that suggests something else is up. possible headgasket. you can do a cooling system test, which involves pressurising the cooling system. and seeing if it holds pressure. any mechanic will do this, or if you have a compressor you can buy a kit for it, essentially its just an attachement for the top of your radiator cap, and you pump compressed air in, there is a guage so you can see if it holds pressure or not. http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Universal-Radiator-Pressure-Cooling-System-Leak-Tester-/120771521868?pt=AU_Car_Parts_Accessories&hash=item1c1e8b2d4c

sounds like you got a bit of air out! 6mins i would guess is about when the thermostat would open, so that would make sense to see a large bubble there. 50mins shoudl be more than plenty. take it for a spin? hows the overheating?

To Do A 5K, 7K, 3Sge, 4 Age Or 2Tg Conversion???
ke70dave replied to MattJA's topic in Engine Conversions
yes yes you are. 18RG's are too old, too heavy and there are much better lighter new engines around. here are my comments, and judging by your responses in here....i think you had better go with a 5k for starters. 5k - bolt in, few extra CC's, bit more oomph 7k - sort of bolts in, needs modifications to sump & other things i belive. google it. 3sge - completely custom conversion, welding, fuel systems, ecus, cooling systems. not for the feint hearted. 4age - custom engine mounts, drive shaft, wiring, fuel system - would be fun (for 16V), considerably more complex for 20V 2TG - too old, same as 18RG, much better new engines, too much effort for gain. prettty much all of these conversions have been done in some sort of old RWD corolla. from the ke20 through to the ke70, not a whole lot changed dimension wise, and they all use the same engine. so most if not all conversion problems apply to your ke25. so when researching...don't just search for "4age into ke25" look at all RWD corollas. anything except the 5k, you will be required to do something like this: http://www.toymods.org.au/forums/faq/25533-making-engine-mounts-4age-ke30-how-applies-any-conversion.html reckon you can do that? -
To Do A 5K, 7K, 3Sge, 4 Age Or 2Tg Conversion???
ke70dave replied to MattJA's topic in Engine Conversions
i belive the T engines can bolt it, but you need to get a different crossmember. either a crossmember from a T18 might work, or from a TA22 celica. T18 has a better chance i think. here is some bedtime reading for you http://www.billzilla.org/4agstock.htm -
Concerts - Excessively Loud With Excessive Bass.
ke70dave replied to ke70dave's topic in Rollaclub Social (Off-Topic)
yeah true.... but has someone told all these mixers that they want it super bassy? seems to be quite a common occurence is all. actually....since you are a musician, how much do you talk to the sound mixer on what kind of sound you want? -
yeah sorry overflow bottle up to the "max" line on the bottle.
