  1. http://www.tmr.qld.gov.au/Licensing/Getting-a-licence/Car-licence/Provisional-licence/Displaying-P-plates.aspx admitedly i thought it was more than 80bucks. still pure revinue. you would hope that most cops would say "you had better take off the p plates, have a good day" But I'm sure a few wouldn't mind an extra ticket in their book. I agree with you twinky in what you said above, that in most cases, doing 60 in a 70 isnt a big deal. you have to admit its kind of annoying though, if I'm allowed to go 70 why can't i go 70? helps to ensure everyone on the same bit of road is going the same speed, helps keep everything in order, especially when merging is involved. How can you merge into flowing traffic when everyone is potentially going different speeds?
  2. what about undercover cop cars getting around with P plates on? its illegal to display p plates on your open license, and there is a nice fine for it, and from what i can tell if you are a p plater and a cop, you don't need to display the p plates while on duty (not confirmed by any official document, but it makes sense) Few people i know have been booked for displaying P plates on their open license (worst was a friends mum who borrowed the sons car and forgot to remove p plates). or just people not realising the exact date they get their open's and leaving their p plates on by mistake. But apparently its ok for cop cars to do it if they are undercover? don't get me wrong I'm all for the concept of "well don't do the wrong thing and you wont get caught", but surely the law enforces can't break the same law they are trying to enforce. rules for some, rules for others? not to mention the fact that there is a fine for leaving your p plates on is a pure revinue raising fine in my eyes.
  3. very nice car, looks really really good. i especailly like those GTR seats. such a great seat. Not so sure on the turbo choice, i think its going to be er...interesting..... with a vertical line on the power curve @ 5000rpm :P lookin forward to seeing more progress.
  4. ive no idea what they out of. but they are bloody awesome. the starship enterprise perhaps?
  5. they are all too expensive, anything stock complete, but unregod should be under 700bucks, maximum of 1.5 -2k for a rego'd running one. but don't be afraid to pay a bit more for a nicer one, save you in the long run. mechanics are easy to fix, engine replacements can be done in a day. but paint and rust is time consuming and expensive to fix.
  6. cruising behind 2 cars, along the industrial roads near where i work, very wide road, where the speed limit is 70km/hr. and someone right up the front is doing 55-60km/h. Turns out the guy in front was an undercover cop car, waiting for someone to overtake him to book them.
  7. unless you are replacing the engine in your mums car, there is NO reason why anyone should ever put an M series engine INTO a car. though there is nothign wrong with outrageous engine conversions, as long as you can keep it cheap, very cheap in this case. this looks fun: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QtBcqVIM0F0
  8. ah wait.. i re read. i sanded back the standard paint, fixed a few dents (With bog), then sprayed down a primer, then colour. you are supposed to put spray putty down on before the primer..but we couldnt be stuffed.
  9. I'm not sure you call that an engine conversion. i think its more a case of, they got an engine, and moulded the car around it. i like it for originality, i wonder how stable it is at the end of the drag strip!
  10. thats what i did. seemd to work. best to check with the paint shop though, some types of paints might react funny to other types of paints.
  11. your best bet is to go to the local paint supplier and talk to him...i spent a good 2hrs at my local paint supplier, and he even gave me a demo of the paint gun i bought. he will take you through how to mix the paint etc, what prep etc. I did 1 coat of primer, 2 or 3 coats of colour and 2 or 3 coats of clear all in acrylic. not shine off the gun, had to buff it back. came up like glass though. if you want real cheap and quick, go enamel, its shine off the gun, but apparently dark colours can fade quick in the sun, they suggest light colours. i found the actual painting is easy, its the prep that takes forever, getitng dents out etc, i gave up on a few spots, to hard to get it right! bit me in the bum though, stood out like a sore thumb when i was finished. oh well. edit: just realised all this info was in the link i posted...did you read that thread i linked?
  12. geez you have your work cut out for you on that block. wheres the head? if its a MR2 engine like you say, the distributer is out the side of the head. no need to stuff around making a box in your fire wall. better wait untill you confirm exactly what head you have before i go on... though I'm almost certain the MR2 onyl ever came with bigport 4age's.
  13. poor ol google getting a bashing here. http://www.rollaclub.com/board/topic/46309-diy-metallic-paint-job/page__p__479481__hl__acrylic__fromsearch__1#entry479481 i made a post in here on my painting experience
  14. its all up to what you think looks good really, who cares about JDM wannabee styles. those ebay ones are are simliar to the oem ones though. i think these are the type you are looking at: id be inclined to say these are exactly what you are looking at: these are OEM i think, chrome on the GT version. i like this type better, but probably only works if you have round headlights too. be careful though, from a few accounts, in the pouring rain, mirrors half way down your bonnet, are going to be absolutely useless. they do look cool though.
  15. yeah the wires are at the back. to run an aftermarket tacho i belive you will need the following: -ignition +12V -Ground (bolt to chassis somewhere, or piggy back of something else) -dash lights +12, piggy back off something else for this -signal - this is a single wire, that eventually connects directly to the negative side of the coil. there is a multi pin plug in the back of the ke70 dash which has this already, but i can't recall which one it is...it might be written on the circuit board of the dash cluster, or you might have to get out the multi meter. note, the aftermarket tacho may come with a heap of signal wires, this is for if you have multiple coils, but the ke70 only has 1 coil.
  16. Enjoy the day mate!
  17. nah you squirt it in pre turbo inlet. we did a setup like this on my mates rx7. i was always very skepticle of the water destroying the turbin blades, apparently not a serious issue if you get a super fine spray nozzle. however we didnt have an electric pump, we used boost pressure to pressurise the water resevoir to get flow (with a 1 way valve), and had an electric solenoid just before the nozzle to control the spray (via a spare output on the megasquirt, which was mapped to rpm and throttle position i belive...). And we mounted the nozzle just after the pod filter inside the intake track. worked well thats for sure. we don't have any quantitative data but it sure allowed a bit more of an agressive tune. scrapped it all though and went E85, its the good stuff. water injection system is still there though, might resurect it one day....
  18. yeah I'm more thinking of when its still relatively light and i suspect not dark enough for the auto headlights to kick in, but its bucketing down with rain so you can't see anything anyway as everything is a white mist.
  19. yeah i listen to JJJ, but there is alot of good stuff out there that doesnt make it to radio. Hard to find though. I have a theory about the headlight arguement... In all the cars i have owned, i have had normal guages with backlit via bulbs. so when it starts to get dark, i can't read the guages and see how fast i am going, so i realise i should probably turn the lights on. (though the subaru turns off the headlights when the ign is turned off, so i just drive around with headlights on all the time now) however new cars have all these new fancy electro luminescent guages, that are always lit up, even during the day (Mazda 2,3,6,RX8 come to mind). So it never gest to the point that they can't see how fast they are going so they don't turn on their headlights untill they cannot actually see the road in front of them....and with street lights and what not...that could be 2hrs after the sun has actually gone down. so we get all these people driving around in the rain who can see their guages perfectly, can see other cars (As they have their lights on), but knowone can see them because they are a tiny silver mazda 2 in the rain at 6pm with no headlights on! IDIOTS!
  20. damn straight.... when will people learn that headlights arent for you to see....its for people to see you!! main steam music is garbage... ive recently discovered that most good music isnt on the radio. the music that is on the radio is the music that attracts the lowest common denominator, keep the advertising companies happy;)
  21. i don't think an ae71 one works....i can't recall whre the pump is on a 4ac. no point going aftermarket or anything, the factory one works well up to moderate to high worked engines.
  22. was available new from parts shop a few yrs back, around 100bucks i think... repco, bursons, whatever shop is around you.
  23. You talking about the fuel pump? The holes in the side of the fuel pump spit out fuel when the internals are cactus. No fuel pressure reg on a 4k?
  24. over diff fits at legal height. and good springs and shocks.
  25. suddenly putting chev badges on a corolla doesnt seem that stupid of an idea! if the commondores can do it, so should the corollas. freshman: what sort of performance parts? the 4afe isnt really a performance engine, its the economy version of the 4age. probably respond ok to some cold air induction, extractors, a good exhaust, port and polish the head, uprated camshaft, higher compression. all of which i highly doubt you will find on the shelf, all will have to be custom made.
