  1. I wouldn't call it that good a price, they don't seem to go for that much anyway. My Dellortos set me back 300 bucks, jetted, with manifold.
  2. I found a corolla at the wrecker with brand new tubes and o rings in it, they cost me a couple of bucks. You can often find them with fairly clean sets if paying for brand newies is out of your price range.
  3. Ahh, hang on a minute, I thought you were just talking about slapping an exhaust and carb on your street car for some cheap easy horsepower, not actually racing! If you rebuilt the motor, up the compression, head work and most importantly, regrind your cam, then that's a different story altogether! Rather than swap across to a 4K camshaft, it's probably easier to just get your existing cam reground, most cam shops should be able to help you out.
  4. With your engine's VE, I believe a well designed set of headers (obviously combined with the right cams, valves etc) will improve your volumetric efficiency thanks to the scavenging effect? The idea isn't to force your engine to make power wherever you want (as implied) but rather to optimise your VE based on what cams, carbs, jetting etc you are running. For example , If you've set up your cam and carbs for 6500+ power, then you want to combine it with the right exhaust that improves your VE at those revs.
  5. I think you're talking about a Starlet turbo aren't you? Need more information, but if its not starting, what other info do you have. Also, what makes you think you've done a turbo seal? You will be seeing copious amounts of smoke if that's the case.
  6. Personally, I would say yes, you are wasting your time. It will be louder, so you may perceive it to be quicker, and your carb might give it a couple more ponies but overall, if you are aiming to wake up a 40 year old, clapped out 3k I wouldn't expect much. You'll get a greater improvement swapping it for a cheap 4k.
  7. Yeh, box lengths are all the same, should only be the number of splines that stuffs you up, and swapping yokes, as mentioned, is straightforward.
  8. dfunkt I had no trouble whatsoever with my conversion; I used my Toyoglide tailshaft in my ke16and all I had to do was change over my front yoke to one with the correct number of splines. I went to the wrecker, they had a bucket full of front youkes they had cut from only tailshafts, found the one I needed (spline counting - fun) and I just took it to a gearbox place, they swapped them and rebuilt the front uni. No problems with length etc. This was KE55 K50 gearbox, exact same length as my toyoglide box. Later model KE70 boxes have more splines, I'm not certain what the K40's have but their length is also the same.
  9. Yes they'll fit. Interior and exterior cosmetics are about the only real difference, different grilles, indicators, taillights, bumpers, etc. But its all interchangeable. TP
  10. I don't think it really needs clarifying other than the SA thread is confined to SA specific information/discussion. When you look at the locked threads, coupled with the broader forum rules, then Mystik/Mods are quite within their bounds to can them. I rarely look in this section, usually just to find out what local events are on and glean some local knowledge of suppliers/workshops/wrecker goodies. As for "chattting/general stuff/trash" threads, I vote they get taken elsewhere. They're nothing but an excuse for shitfights, arguments and flaming.
  11. wash and polish, I want to see how she spruces up. Magic score. Was it advertised?
  12. Dunno about that, but my Auto one fitted my manual like sammo mentioned.
  13. That was the blue one on Carsales.com.au, a fully restored one. I paid 2k for mine, it took me 7 years to find it, and I reckon it was an absolute steal. Good all over condition, running roadworthy. I've seen them go cheaper but nowhere near the condition. They're hard to find but not what I'd call in high demand.

    Spotted

I spotted a red ke70 with the twin round headlight conversion on it and those dog ugly 4 spoke jobs at a joint on Marion road the other day. there was a tough Sunny with watanabes on it as well, green, slammed with primer patches. I think there was another white ke70 floating around as well....
  15. Plenty have done it, plenty more have thought about doing it (I did at one point). If you search on the rollaclub, there's quite a bit of info, the hardest bit is sifting through the oodles of information. As for a "how to" the best thread to start with is Taz_rx's thread on his 400 buck turbo setup. Hardest bits all revolve around the carby setup, the actual blower installation is fairly straightforaward in my opinion. If I were you I'd modify an aircon bracket to mount the blower, use a stock carb or Weber downdraft blowthrough with a custom tophat, modify the carb so you have a boost pressure reference line to the fuel bowl and a fuel pump/FPR setup that will handle the pressurised fuel bowl. As far as cost, you should be paying around 300-400 for an SC12/14 off ebay, 100-200 bucks for a suitable weber + 20 buck adaptor plate. 200 bucks for a decent fuel pump and carby turbo fuel pressure regulator setup. Pulleys and brackets can be as cheap as long as your fabrication skills are competent. Oh, and a check valve in your brake booster line. 10 bucks.
  16. ^^^ What he said!
  17. Home made manometer's are pretty easy to make, just some clear tubing and some garden dripper fittings (tees, elbows, joiners etc) should do it. I've http://www.vfrdiscussion.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=16200! That's the long and short of it. I never actually got round to doing it, I went to set my dellortos up and balance them with the prescribed method, but discovered my particular model doesn't have the individual throat air bleed circuit, they must have been matched at factory! Hardest bit will be getting fittings to suit the actual measurement ports on your carbs (mine are dellortos, not sure what Webers have) I went to SMC Pneumatics and they had the right fittings. TP.
  18. Awesome! I love the fact that the original owner still has it and is rebuilding it! Top work. As for the KE10 choptop getting around, that only looks shit because of the paintjob. Rather than a soft top, you could build a Carson style removable hardtop?
  19. We should, I'll measure up the carbs properly tonight (been slack) and sort out a filter, then next week I'll swing by Blackwood dyno. It's definitely running lean at the moment though, so its not going to get driven hard until that's rectified.
  20. Dude, do you really need to post this question in every vaguely related topic?
  21. Intense hey. That's quite funny. New engine, not quite tuned properly, exhaust potential to wake the deceased, I suppose I was quite focused! haha.
  22. Screw it - Ramflos or Unifilter. I must rescind my previous comment. I'm now starting to question my manliness for even broaching the topic...... I was just a little shocked after coming back from the exhaust shop at how loud the induction actually is, as opposed to my very very loud, home made exhaust noise it was previously. Luke, I'm guessing you were driving alongside me as I drove along the stretch of road with the LARGEST police station on the south side of adelaide? Short changing gears at 1800 revs so as to remain incognito? haha. What were you driving anyway?
  23. Well I fiddled with the fan a bit more and got it working properly, fixed my overheating issues. Car's driving fine and dandy now. Took it to Carline Exhausts on Marion Road, he ran 2 inch from the extractor collector back (flanged the extractors) with a hotdog and a lukey muffler. Top job, the thing has a nice note without being stupidly loud! Only thing is that the induction noise is still damn loud. I think I might make up an airbox with a pod on it.....
  24. Got the 5K driving finally. Driven a few times with no filters (they're coming...). The exhaust note is wicked, nothing too intrusive, but the bloody induction noise is really quite staggering (Twin DHLA 40's). I don't expect it to change too much, but has anyone noticed whether Ramflo's/Unifilters make much reduction in intake noise? It still needs a bit of tuning here and there which might alter it. What have other people done to quieten there twins down? I'm thinking of making up an Airbox for it with a pod. Let me know. TP
  25. Cool. Keep us posted. I totally forgot to look for those pulleys today, next couple of days I'll let you know.
