How Does This 4K Run So Well??? Someone Smart Plz Help
philbey replied to Mezz///'s topic in General Mechanical
Isn't this thread better suited to propaganda and hearsay? -
I going the other way. Runa big cam and loads of comp. keep stock lifters just upgrade springs. I had no problem with mine as a daily and it sounded like a p51 buzzing the tower at full noise.

Dude knock it off with the capitals. And edit your previous post, don't re post, it's called bumping. And read the forum rules before you break any more. No point wasting everyone's time speculating. As mentioned there are dished 4k motors. The one and only way to solve this is to measure the volume of the head and the piston dish and calculate comp ratio. -
In all seriousness the Lanos isn't that bad a car, it is fit for purpose. Costs nothing to run, it has a surprising amount of grunt for a shitbox and we've done plenty of long distance trips in it no worries. But it got neglected and they're a motor known for sludging up, and it got a sticky tappet likely due to a blockage.
-
Lolz I tend to agree. WTF is this motorfix shit everyone craps on about?
-
Going to raise a,point here: you ever looked through a crash repairers and seen how much bog they slap into some cars? Just cos he's a spray painter doesn't mean it's not full of bog. Do you know and trust the dude?

Jono.C kindly pointed out the lack of updates on the wagon. Let me preamble it with this: she and I have been on terse terms lately..... So in mid year I shat a coil and got stranded. Much to the amusement of my workmates. That was easy enough, no surprise, the coil cost me 1 pint and because I'm a tightarse using old parts it died. Bought a new one all good. Then through a fairly cold winter it was getting harder and harder to start. The start routine, (2 pumps, crank without throttle, kick her open as it fires. Stall, crank, fire immediately all good) that worked infallibly for 2 years no longer worked. I bought a new battery thinking the old one was running out of juice... Nope still hard to crank it over. The 40 year old starter in it was probably starting to die, grabbed Micks reduction gear starter, much better but still being a bitch. Anyway I changed jobs in august and I train to work now so she got sidelined. Cobwebs accumulated. SPent September.... October... November building a garage. A big one, 75 square metres, 3m gutter line, comfortable space for 2 cars with workshop space. Gonna put a mezzAnine inthere as well! Got married and am on a 2 month honeymoon. Before I left I went to shift the wags I to the shed. Wouldn't start. Something electrical. Left her parked half inthe garden bed where she rolled to for a week. Got off my arse fiddled with a wire, started no worries. Warm up idle up the drive, get on the gas up the street, dies. Roll her down the drive leave her a week. Fiddle a wire, fires up, into the shed. See you in Feb 2012 wags! Now the stress of weddings honeymoon financing, shed build is over, here's the work list for 2012: 1. Polish 911 wheels and re fit. Final touches and fire it up, relocate from dads house to mine!!!! 2. Fix the wife's Lanos tapper noise. Clean it up, drive off a cliff. It died about the same time my car started playing up and left us without a car lolz 3. Fit out shed 4. Gather parts for ke16 upgrades. New front end, new driver door, 4speed. Got a donor just gotta get out and strip it 5. Pull apart wagon and strip it. Send to the painters. 6. Finish off bobber frame and aim to fire up. Gonna be a good year.

Cool guys, great work As always

Hm/perry headers fit with all the different starter motors- ke70, original ke10, reduction gear starter. Trust me I've changed 3 this year haha.
-
New fuel type.... Meth baby? This thing is cool. I had some mucking about with engine mounts I ended up cutting and modifying a ke.... 55 one I think. Took out some of the offset. But rewelding it inevitably cooked the rubber so it won't last long. I have an original 2 piece Toyota one that I might be ablest fit a generic bush to. Have you come up with anything better?
-
Keep the pics coming. Stu already said it but that turbo kit is gonna be a tight fit in that car... Keep the work going I wanna see a ke10 in car of the year, Spencers ride is a tight unit but ke70s aren't my thing.... (jelous? Lol) Getting me amped to get back him and get my wagon overhaul started.

4K Engine,Flywheel Getting Lightened,,Help Plz :)
philbey replied to Mezz///'s topic in KExx Corolla Discussion
Yes A lighter flywheel at certain revs will have less angular momentum. The advantage is that because it doesn't need so much effort to go from 0-9000 revs, it accelerates quicker. Reducing flywheel mass is akin to mKing your car lighter so you can accelerate harder. -

Man looks like a lucky fail! That disc out of the centre, was it roughly the same diameter as the mating face on the crankshaft? Makes sense, that's where the highest load from the clutch pressure Will be concentrated. I had a flywheel shear all it's bolts once. Dug a groove on the inside of the bel housing.... -

With a minor lightening and a shot peening, I wouldn't worry much. Skimming a bit off the outer will be fine, when you start cutting chunks out or taking it out of the guts, then it gets scary. Scattershield, 6mm plate in the inside of the bell housing.should do it? -
True, I. Not trying to get him to t e it, merely diagnose how likely it is that he's a tooth out. A timing light will tell, it there are many cases where people can't get the timing right because there's a rampage of different pulleys and timing covers and a mismatch wreaks havoc for new customers!

Cool keep us posted. Given how easy this is, and I've got a spare pair of struts, I might upgrade all round. Be good to know what rears fit. Galant masters are dual circuit, they come in a couple of sizes depending which model year, and the bolt spacing is the same. I got priced 130-160 depending which unit I chose.

Keep in mind that spoking a flywheel like that will make it harder to balance. But yeh you take as much off the outer, don't touch the middle unless you have a scatter shield. I haven't heard of one flying apart either and frankly I don't want to. Be the first haha. The guy I bought my dellortos off was also selling a jun ally flywheel, 3kgms. No way I would run an aluminum fly in a streetcar though, it is only a matter of time before it blows haha. -
I didn't drill mine out, just get a piece of rod and a big hammer you should be able to punch the backing plate off. I didn't even bother with the cup, get the rubber bush and it will sit against the firewall, It might be crooked but mines been fine for 2 years.

Now going from memory, the rotor spins clockwise. How far can you move the rotor position by loosening the dizy adjustment bolt?
-
Good old Pete. Any idea on the bore size stu, because there's quite a selection of galant master sizes that will suit. Also, what size rear cylinders did you use? From what? Jono, top article. This is perfect for the FAQ. Can someone please upload it to the FAQ, I'm away for 6 weeks and I'm not doing it from the phone!

Haha. Derp. Yeh Gumtree is such a rubbish website but it seems to be the place.

Yeh problem with forums is that it's so narrow. I just like stumbling across random stuff. But even tough I go looking, I find it strange that I only come across something this cool in Australia. http://japanesenostalgiccar.com/2011/08/03/kidney-anyone-1968-toyota-1600gt-race-car/ By browsing a US website that's dedicated to jap cars. Anyone use the trader anymore?

I am a perpetual widow shopper.... When it comes to cars (or traveling Amsterdam hahah). As in I love to look around to see what cool old cars are selling, how much for etc. but I never buy, just like looking. Anyway I reckon it's gone to the dogs lately. eBay is rubbish these days, although still ok for cars it's terrible for parts. Gumtree... Yeh maybe if I am a north burbs brogan who can't spell. Sweet. It was a modern looking site in 1997.... Usually I find myself jumping from forum to forum, ozdat, aus rotary, rollaclub, toymods. Carsales is great for current model commodore buyers. Do you guys reckon it's harder lately? Does everyone else trawl numerous sights on the off chance of finding stuff?
