make it out of a K engine!! Just a little coffee table. Keep in mind the bigger the block the heavier the table! and CHEEEP like a budgie. Any V8 block that is cool will probably be worth money. A good block would be the 1UZ one as it's alloy. Oh the irony with the wine bottles is that the sort of person with that in their living room wouldn't strike me as a discerning wine Connoisseur...

White Deposits In The Exhuast Ports/Back Of Exhaust Valves
philbey replied to philbey's topic in General Mechanical
It's a common mod to remove the air pumps with no problems. I thought I'd test the knowledgebase here on the RC to see, before I hit up the Pelican parts Porsche forum. That joint's got 15 times more members than the RC but there's about 50 times more bullshit responses LOL. I'm suspecting the valve saver, but I'll redo the valve stem seals too. -
White Deposits In The Exhuast Ports/Back Of Exhaust Valves

Ah evan, that's where I went wrong LOL. BUT - that does prompt an interesting memory recall: I do run that valve saver stuff in it?!!? could that possibly be the problem? -
White Deposits In The Exhuast Ports/Back Of Exhaust Valves

Hmm good point. Don't know much about it myself, any insight trev? potential for damage etc? Yeh they have stem seals and I suspect they're on the way out, when I park on a really cambered road it tends to puff a bit of smoke on startup, I suspect because the oil is high enough to weep past the seal. Very occasionally. Maxy you're saying that burning oil could cause this white buildup then? also, don't be fooled by the oily crap all around the cylinder sleeve, I just fixed some a significant oil leak on the motor. Pretty certain it's not corrosion. As for fuel, I only run her on 98 octane, the previous owner was probably a tight arse though and ran it on decaf. -
yeh tell me about it with this stupid remote brake booster and the carbies, I've got bugger all real estate for a bottle You can get a 75mm dia aftermarket one for not too much though, I think I'll grab one. Stainless. Jam it between the rad and the battery.

Yo diggity... I pulled the headers off my porsche motor and noticed white deposits in most of the exhuast ports. There was also some buildup on the back of the valves. Take a look at the pics. Anyone have any idea what this might be? I've never seen it before, but i assume it's something to do with lean burning, similar to tuning by sparkplug colour. Just to add to this, Porsches were fitted with smog pumps that pumped fresh air into the exhaust ports for emissions. Burns off any unburnt mixture. If you look you can see a shiny new hex head plug where I've blocked off these ports. I've only just fitted these plugs, prior to that, the actual brass piping was still connected but the pump was missing, and only just capped off. I wonder whether this may have something to do with it? Let me know your thoughts. TP

Maybe your autoelec could help him out?

yo evan, I'm sure you took into account that plenty of older cars had a positive earth on them didn't you? Maybe this dude rolls about in a generator powered '49 ford shoebox or something? I mean, you wouldn't want to appear the fool, ripping on someone for a legitimate question, would you....?

god damn junkies. I know a bloke who got his rear windscreen smashed just to flog his street directory....

I am running a KE20 Automatic radiator, and I think it's the trans cooler in the bottom tank that make it a tad taller, causing it to clash with the lower rad panel brace. Had to run a pusher fan also, but if I cut that lower brace I might just get the fan behind the radiator. Thickness was the same as the KE1x item. I find the biggest issue with Ke10 cooling is the lack of overflow bottle, a couple of drives and you lose half a litre, in summer you need to top up almost daily. When mine got cleaned, I asked him about the cooling capacity for the upsized 5K and he actually mentioned that the same core is used on a TA22 1600 so it should be fine.

3/4 of all those old corollas have all been owned by about 5 blokes on the rollaclub board too. I want to see this sucker in the flesh!
-
you a panel beater/spraypainter by trade? Certainly looks like you know what your doing anyway! keep the good work going man.

cool. I used to drive a hachi, back before everyone called them a hachi and all the drift kings were importing their Initial D dvd's. Awesome fun car, looking forward to seeing what you can pull off with this sucker!

true TRD but they seem that uncommon I figured the generalisation will be fine.

nah first starter I've killed so far, I had some trouble when I built it but I think it was just cos it was a fresh tight motor. And some shitty wiring. and a classic Brain Fade moment. It died from the usual sticky solenoid. I am going to remake my alternator and starter loom though it's pretty dodgy now, half the time I spent under it was repairing the broken wires and putting new terminal connectors on.

I just bought a decent KE20 one off ebay for 30 bucks and had it cleaned and flushed for about 70 bucks. Although there's a bit of fiddling to fit a KE20 one, file out some holes and make some spacers, that sort of gaff.
-
you can put liners in but you're crazy if you think that's the easiest option. For that money you'd be better off getting another block that can be machined.
-
the theory is sound all but for one fundamental; wrong way around. 5k bottom + 4K head = Low comp 4K bottom + 5K head = Avgas only man.
-
Yeh its pretty bloody good for the price. I was well impressed. KE1x though, not a KE55, same deal I suspect.
-
you crackers are all crazy. except Ken. KE10's baby.

Yeh I tried because I wanted to get it done quickly and ended up taking way too long. Just jumped straight in.... Oh well. I'm using my old starter and it's close to the extractors. In a week when I'm redoing it, I'll put in a reduction gear. And yeh I'll snap a couple of pics soon. Needs a wash though...

I for one hate them hahaha. Anyway, I spotted troy's fastback today but I'm guessing that its the new owner. Sounded fat too.

You can get 60 thou pistons, ACL make them. EDIT: Mahle make them, ACL are the supplier.

oh yeah I did get that sucker of you. That means I can blame you too! haha. All good the 3K starter actually fitted in. No shit though, I've done plenty of fixits on cars and this starter swap was THE MOST painful job I've done to date. Everything that could go wrong did... god damn it. I only had the gearbox crossmember bolts left to do and the holes didn't line up and I just cracked the shits and borrowed dads ute to get to work today.... Just couldn't be bothered any more.... Awesomeness. Needs TLC. Interestingly Ryan, the 3K starter that I had fitted up OK but the solenoid is fairly close to the extractors. Probably be pulling that out in 6 weeks time....

wow that's good faq-worthy info!
