Fuel Pump Adn Regulator Selection
philbey replied to camerondownunder88's topic in General Mechanical
Cam this one doesn't have pressure adjustment, it just has a max pressure relief at 7psi. You'll definitely need the reg with it. I use a holley Red FPR, it's been set at ~3.5 for nearly 2 years and no trouble. I had a gauge on it but took it off when I redid my fuel lines. It has NEVER given trouble, it's easy to set and it's shiny! I paid about 50 bucks for it from a rod shop. My only complaint is the mounting setup is pretty shit. But you can get around that easy enough. -
Help.. Fitting Single Dcoe Manifold
philbey replied to keslider55's topic in KExx Corolla Discussion
Yeh, I used a file as well. Make sure you file off the back face (that the nut tightens too) I've seen it done where they tried to file the head face down = fail. Take your time and keep checking with verniers. It's only a half hour job. -
Funny thing is I don't reckon I even knew that horsepower figure was in the FAQ :lolcry:

while he might not be a "Wrecker" per se, last time I went in there he had about 4 pallets of K series gearboxes stacked in the corner! But yeh, he knows where to get stuff that's for sure.

Put gloss black down and matte clear it.

Tie rod ends and ball joints are both specific types of Spherical Bearing, if you went to any auto parts store and asked for a tie rod end ball joint they'd ask you which one you wanted. I don't think peter will have new rubbers for you, he's a corolla wrecker and as far as I know doesn't sell new parts. But he will be able to help you out.

Probably your steering box is thrashed. I you can adjust em somewhat but vie never seen much gain. I've bought myself a tight ke20 box that Can be fitted with some minor mods, hopefully get around to this in a few weeks.

Fitted that internally regulated alt, pulled out the old loom, made up a brand new loom for alternator and starter and it works a treat now. Pic of the half fabbed loom. I used the 8 gauge speaker wire from Jaycar for the starter, thinner but it's finer wire so it should have higher current capacity.

Put it on a dyno, you will get a proper tune and much better power that way.

Seeing as we're talking about "small acts" anyone seen anything of N'fa, ex 1200 techniques? I saw him at Good Vibrations a few years ago and he put on a shit hot show, but he seems to have disappeared.

It's not that hard to believe it's a 40 year old car! I got lucky and bought a full set of suspension parts that someone had never used and I got some rare bits in the lot. No I'm not selling, before you ask. Now, do you need a Tie Rod end or do you need a ball joint. You've said you need a "ball joint tie rod end" and it's somewhat confusing, although I'm guessing its the Tie rod end. This is a Ball joint. Next up, you need to be careful, there is some variance in parts. There's 2 types of tie rod ends, coarse and fine thread, I'm led to believe that only the latest of the range, the KE18 wagons had the fine thread . My KE16 is a 69 model and that's coarse.. There's also inner and outer tie rod ends (4 in total) on all cars, so you need to make sure you get the right one. Second if you need a ball joint, I suspect there are some model differences as well; that one mattress posted looks just slightly different to the ones I have at home for mine, but I will check and confirm this. You need to keep hunting around I'm afraid. Don't try your Pedders or big franchise joints, they'll fix a commodore or falcon no problems, but not a 40 year old corolla. Look for the small joints in the yellow pages. Call Peter Robinson, he'll probably be able to help you out, if nothing else comes up he'll sort you out with a good condition secondhand item.

Best part of finished the alternator swap today, but discovered that the difference in Bosch-Denso alternator brackets isn't in the bottom bracket..... It's in the top bracket! Off to u pull it tomorrow morning and nab one, or maybe break out the files! Made up a whole new starter and alternator loom too, that was quite an enjoyable job. Half made loom: This is the bracket that I got off a KE70 at UPI, plus a noise supressor, total, $7. Awesome. The KE70 bracket is quite a bit longer than the 10 bracket and with my current radiator hose setup, I can't fit it because it will rub on the hose. Just cut the end off it, should be fine although a big mud washer might be a good idea. Also fitted the elec coil I got from Scotty (was Doug's before that), flushed the radiator with Mukowt as there was still crap floating in there from when I blew the HG ages ago. Worked a treat, I ran it for an hour and after filling again the coolant now stays much cleaner! Now electrically all good, charges fine etc. New coil and it's running much better. Also vacuumed it out and got her cleaned up a bit inside. Next task is to polish up my Enkei's and get the rubber on them. Discovered that my Toyota centre caps will fit into the mag as a Push Through! Sweet.

Top work mate. I might move this to Electrical and make it a sticky.

The japs at Mazda did it long before the astra was built

I looked at the old starter again the other day, could hardly turn it over, must have totally seized a bearing. Got a brand new second hand (roots manuva reference!) Bosch alternator off Toyoland today, I'm going down the path of internal regulation, simplify my wiring and clean up the engine bay a bit! It's a bit grimy but should be fine. When I swapped in my second alternator the other day, I decided to rip the sump gasket out and replace it, seems to be holding muuuuuuch better than the last. I used that Permatex No 5 sealant this time, not silicon, good gear. Also got a bosch black coil off Scotty, swapped him for a pint. Car's been running funny, missing at funny spots in the rev range, hopefully its the coils fault and this new one should do it. And I dropped two of my Enkei mags off at Natrad on halifax street to lay a couple of beads of aluminium on the edges, I'll get them home tonight and file them clean, polish the set and get some new rubber on them!
-
Scotty swung past for a beer last night and brought that coil with him! I'll see how it goes, been thinking of these MSD programmables lately as well.....

Got an internally regulated alternator today. 45 bucks from Toyoland, with bracket. Not sure of condition but i'll take a punt and wire it in tomorrow.

yep. second that. Tidy looking rig that wagon. nick I got those suspension spacers sitting on my desk. not sure what my movements are this weekend though, I'll keep you posted. I wanna see that wagon in flesh some time!

sounds like a sad state of affairs. If you're in no rush to sell it, I would put it up for sale for the 5-8 range. Regardless of condition, cars at these prices don't sell immediately. A keen buyer will recognise a good well built car and pay the money for it, regardless of the colour.

Hi there mate, Your car has been around for some time has it not? I have a photo somewhere of a Ke10 that meets that exact description. If your car is a shit hot example, well done, properly painted etc, I would say that the 5000+ might be acheivable. But without meaning to offend, harlequin paint and simmons have long gone the way of the dodo as far as current tastes are concerned. Particularly with the big surge in jap nostalgia, people are looking at single colour, non metallic, low, classic jap mags, fender mirrors etc. Shit I can't remember any recent cases of cars people are painting in harlequin, and everyone is talking about Longchamps and Starsharks, not FR's. So long and short, you either sell to the "show car" scene who might pay more, or to the corolla communitybased on the merits of its build; a good quality body can be repainted and the rotor heads will lap up a set of 4x110 simmons. Definitely don't expect to see the car move quickly.

Nope. At least I couldn't find any when I bought mine, they only had the smaller 8-9cc dish.

First of all, why? What is this fascination with ripping out hydro lifters?
-
Oh, I didn't realise there was an actual point to this thread. My mistake. :laff:

isn't it?

KE70s make my eyes bleed. I reckon it's great.
