  1. if you don't have the constant battery feed wired correctly you will lose the codes when the ignition is switched off.
  2. yep, factory internals on this engine. Will only push it to 170-180kw atw which should take 6-7psi to get there. The G4 has decent knock control and I'm able to use the VVT to keep the dynamic compression at a reasonable level. If I do break a ringland, a new short motor is only a bit over $1800 from toyota then that will get a set of 10:1 forgies ;) The 1zz I turbo'd years ago is still going strong, but that's only 146kw atw on 9psi
  3. Hi Guys, Thought I'd put up a few pics of my AE82 project I've been working on for a while now. It's all done, just awaiting a modplate and RWC for rego. Basic specs: AE82 Sedan ZZE123 import 2zzge motor and C60 6-speed Custom steampipe turbo manifold with Kando Dynamic TD05-18G & Tial MVS gate 3" exhaust with a couple of large magnaflow mufflers Modified plenum to accept Bosch combo MAP/IAT sensor. Modified alloy AE101 20V radiator with SPAL slimline fans Twincam EFI tank with JZA80 US Denso pump, 530cc Bosch injectors in modified factory rail and turbosmart FPR800 Link G4 Xtreme ECU Cluster modified to accept speedhut electronic gauges Complete respray in Toyota "JC" red Superstrut front brakes and AE82 twincam rear discs/calipers There's a lot more to it, basically everything has been replaced/rebuilt and I've done the whole lot in the shed at home... Lots more pics here: http://photos.purcellperformance.com/GalleryThumbnails.aspx?gallery=3301051
  4. you wont be dissapointed with the vipec. Awesome bit of kit and work extremely well with toyota reluctor setups. I use them in all my cars, started with a v88 that replaced the Autronic SM4 in my daily driver in 2008. If you do any street tuning yourself you'll find the mixture map a really handy feature. I've also had good success with Adaptronic on a few cars, decent budget option but the tuning interface and logging leaves a lot to be desired when compared to the vipec VTS.
  5. in a RHD AE92 you need to change the brake master setup to an AE102/AE112 setup with external bias valve, same as I did in my AE82. If you don't then the head/belt tensioner ram hits on the brake master. Also need to mod the shift cable bracket to get the cables sitting at a decent angle as the ZZE bracket leaves them pointing upwards. Once I finish the 2zz AE82 I've got an AE92 here that's getting a turbo 1zz, mounts etc are basically identical to what's required for a 2zz.
  6. heheh, I guess inline with the thread dig, I'll post some pics of the conversion I finished. It's using an MY08 WRX TD04L on a merge collector manifold, st215 injectors, walbro, 6-speed with LSD, XR6 turbo cooler and Vipec V44 ECU with gear based boost control. Has been running for 40,000km now turbocharged, makes for an awesome daily driver. It was running a MR-S powerfc initially before installing the v44 in 2009 Manifold: http://www.simplyeservices.com/1zz/project39.jpg Turbo/dump/heatshield: http://www.simplyeservices.com/1zz/project41.jpg Installed: http://www.simplyeservices.com/1zz/project56.jpg http://www.simplyeservices.com/1zz/project58.jpg Initial Dyno: http://www.purcellperformance.com/Tech/1zzfte_dyno1.jpg Recent Dyno run: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H5S6hcDXIJo
  7. The one from Craig is not in a Toyota. Ant from Kaizen is also doing a RWD 2ZZ which is going into one of his AE86's eventually.
  8. Craig from Extreme Custom Engineering at Coopers Plains in Brisbane has done a RWD 2ZZ recently. Custom bellhousing, custom mounts, custom exhaust, quad throttles etc
  9. I like my wagon, it's almost finished too! http://www.twincam.org/members/jp/wagon1.jpg http://www.twincam.org/members/jp/wagon2.jpg http://www.twincam.org/members/jp/wagon3.jpg http://www.twincam.org/members/jp/wagon4.jpg http://www.twincam.org/members/jp/wagon5.jpg http://www.twincam.org/members/jp/wagon9.jpg It's a GX70G Mark II wagon with the following: -JZX100 VVTI 1JZGTE -JZA70 R154 gearbox with Ogura hyper single clutch -JZX100 PowerFC with hand controller integrated into dash -Hilix rear diff with LSD center and FD RX7 rear brakes -Recaro SR3 seats -17x8 and 17x10 dished rims -the usual intercooler and 3" stainless exhaust etc -R32 GTR front calipers on BA falcon slotted disks. All sitting on JZX81 coilovers
  10. we've confirmed VVTI 1JZGTE injectors from JZX100's etc are a direct drop-in for the 1ZZ.
  11. I'd say the MAF will get maxed out pretty early, it's close to 5V (4.7...) at full throttle in NA form from what we've datalogged with the emanage. I'd personally go with the emanage over the unichip as it's more flexable and you're not locked into "unichip" workshops if you need it tuned. The datalogging and maptracing on the emanage is nice too. I'm not sure how they'd map for positive manifold pressure with the unichip through the MAF, they might just do something dodgey like a rising rate fuel pressure regulator (if they convert to return-style) or map TPS V's RPM which is also not optimal. The reason for the additional MAP sensor on the emanage is so you can map for positive manifold pressure (boost)
  12. I'm partway through piecing together a turbo conversion for the 1ZZ at the moment, two tried and tested ECU solutions in the US are the Greddy Emanage with optional MAP sensor, ignition and injector harness, or the Apexi powerFC. don't forget your fuel system mods too, we've converted the system to a return style setup with external fuel pressure regulator, another metal fuel line from the tank for the return, a modified fuel pump housing with walbro 255 pump and return fitting, and JZX100 1JZGTE injectors (high impedance top feed). A lot of the turbo 1zz guys in the us use 2ZZ injectors, but they're easy to max out once the boost bug bites. Wiesco do pistons, the stock rods will take 15psi without trouble as the ring lands on the stock pistons are the first thing to go usually. So $800 for forged pistons with rings, another $400 for the VRS kit (genuine is best), $80 to clean and hone the block, then reassemble yourself following the instructions in the service manual here: http://www.rollamods.com/witzl/Corolla_service.iso or pay an engine shop $1K to assemble it. While the motor's out, purchase a TRD LSD secondhand from one of the importers for a few hundred, and take it along with your box to a gearbox shop for installation ($200-500 depending on what parts they break) A steampipe log style manifold is cheap to make (400ish) and secondhand S15BB or WRX TD04L's are cheap too ($200-500), we got a 400km old TD04L for $250 Shipped.
  13. looking for 12K for the chaser. http://www.twincam.org/forums/index.php?showtopic=14487
  14. the car sits in the garage mostly, comes out a couple of times a month. Is really just for messing around and the occasional track day. It will get used a bit more in the near future when my chaser sells.
  15. the brakes go very well. They were up to the task coming down from 200km/h on the straight at darlington park before it closed
  16. The bumper probably covers half the cooler A small gallery of pics from the swap is here: http://www.rollamods.com/gallery/posv3/index.htm Now I just have to offload the KE71 and the other AE71 that I've got taking up space...
  17. I'm using a smallport 4age running 0.3bar currently. It has oil squirters. I have a 7a on the engine stand at the moment that is getting stronger rods and a set of 8.0:1 4agze pistons, along with a smallport head. That setup will replace the current smallport with a bigger turbo and 15psi. Injectors and ECU are also being replaced of course.
  18. mine were about $300, they were looking pretty average when I got them. All black and corroded. They were a replacement set after my original ordered set of RS8's went missing between Japan and Brisbane. Pic from when I started refinishing them... one sandblasted and rim polished, another sandblasted and etch primed, top two in original condition: http://www.rollamods.com/gallery/ae71/pos144.JPG And the finished product after sandblasting, painting and polishing: http://www.rollamods.com/gallery/ae71/pos146.JPG

  21. Ant doesn't really do engine builds, just a lot of different conversions and conversion bits.
  22. no, in reference to their 4age 20V and 7age 20V race motors used in the improved production series etc. Chris O'Shannessy's race car is now tuned at Yager too. If I was going to pay someone in Aus for a serious NA A series, it would be Yager.
  23. Give Mark Yager at Yager Race Engines in Alstonville a call, he can sort you out with a proper race 20V. Not cheap at all though. Getting decent power from the motor is a lot easier witha bit more displacement. These guys do a nice stroker kit: http://www.speedracersportscars.com.au/stroker.htm
  24. Toby's pretty much the best in Aus to speak to about 2zz stuff. Shao's spending close to $10K with him.
