Mel's doing Classic Adelaide that weekend and hence won't be around.....
-
Give it ten years and you'll be over it.

Nothing tows like new school though....... and I know what I prefer driving around in day to day. There's something to be said about power steering, CD player, air con, cruise control, reliability, fuel economy, low range....

Most trade prices that I've come across don't include GST because we all claim it back. Written quotes must say if it includes it or not. For $60 I wouldn't argue the point.

If you have a new cam, the cam tag should have your clearances written on it.....

Awesome Haikal, truly awesome......

These are the only ones I know of at the moment.... Toombul pics

Holden made the car for a customer, i.e Toyota. Usually in a deal like that, Toyota would ask for as good if not better quality control as what Holden would have. Being a customer you can reject items you don't like or aren't up to standard, whereas Holden (and I'm not saying they do) may let things through that Toyota wouldn't. Therefore, the theory goes that the Lexcen's should be off better build quality.

I had a tonner, it was great as a tow car, but a little agricultural around town. Lexcens actually tended to be a better build quality than a Commodore, something about it being a customer car.....

I'd bank on at least 950kg for the Sprinter, think also of fuel as well. I work on 1000 kg for the blue car, and I know for a fact, Dwarf is 865kg, and it's a lot smaller than a Sprinter.... but you've got the idea anyway. Wagons are the best way to go, be it Falcodore or 4x4. A light trailer is 550-600kgs although hire trailers you can get up to 900kgs. Happy hunting, PM me and I'll send you a contact number if you want to talk about options. R

Fook, with your luck at the moment, I'd spend the $60! :D For $60 you get the warm and fuzzy feeling that it's spot-on. Lock tight on the bolts, correct torque, everything the way it should be. I don't know about you but changing diffs isn't something I enjoy doing, get it done right the first time. Having said that, it's your money....

You'll probably find wagons to be in better condition than sedans for some odd reason. Mine was a good unit and only had 140k on the clock. Good ones are out there, as always, you get what you pay for. Irokin, all Commodores from VN onwards have factory trans coolers, although it is wise to fit a second one, as recommended by Holden if you're doing a lot of towing.

Comma button broken?? I disagree. I've towed rally cars for years with Commodore's and, like with everything, set them up properly and you will have no problems. Start hauling cars around in a 'Dore without the correct tow pack, and yes, you will end up with a LWB version fairly quickly. If you do things properly you should have no problems. If Mumblezz were to be towing a Falcon, yes I would probably agree with you and say 4WD, but I don't think it's required in this case. An EL should get far better fuel economy than an XE. An XE motor is basically 70's technology. Ditto with a Cruirser. Commodore fuel economy on a trip was about 15l per hundred loaded, 10l per hundred without trailer. Mumblezz: Trailer, anywhere from about $1200 (second hand and needing work) to $3500 (flash new one!).

Blood sweat and tears. Power drill with a sanding disk and be prepared to repaint it.

Right. The main thing you have to consider is towing capacity. Your Sprinter would weigh around the 1000 kg mark, and a car trailer will weigh anywhere between 550 kg and 800 kg, perhaps more. Hire trailers are at the top end of this scale. Effectively you need something that will happily tow 1600 kg. You have now discounted most of the Toyota fleet. Cressida has IRS which wouldn't tow real well with out mods. Hilux would come close to fitting the bill, factory towing capacity of 1500kg, ordinary on fuel and have kidney belts that fall from the roof when you go over bumps. Forget about a 'Cruiser for that price range, you don't want a petrol tanker following you wherever you go. I would consider for that price range, and I know I'm about to swear, a Commodore of Falcon. Why? Okay, I had two Commodores as towing cars, and they're not a bad unit. Put a trannie cooler on them and some Polyairs in the back springs, rated towing capacity of 1650kgs, and I think more with load riders, and you're in business. Pity you weren't looking 12 months ago, as you could have had my VSII for a good price. Good stable towing platform that will get you to your destination on the same day you left. May I suggest a wagon? Harder to find but for motorsport support services, far superior to a sedan. Try to look for one with no towbar, and then fit a good Hayman Reese to it. Not all tow packs are rated to 1650 kg. You should be able to pick a a good VS or VSII for about $8K. Falcon are the same deal, but with I think a slightly higher towing capacity. Leaf rear end in the wagons are horse and cart technology, but hey, it works. A nice EL wagon with reasonable K's are achievable with your budget. Both these things, although as boring as bat shit, will work very well as daily drivers, and not attract police attention. 4x4's are good, but thirsty and with older ones, you have to book holidays if you want to tow up hills. At the top end of your budget you could get something like Mel's Jackeroo. It does the job fairly well, but even she will agree that lacks a bit in the going uphill department. My Pajero is awesome, but slightly out of your price range. Food for thought! *Click for polyair desciption.....*

motorkhana kicks off at 10...

Have finally conceded that the Dwarf won't be ready for tomorrow. New brake line in, brakes wont bleed properly, and still have to install extractors, carbs and finish the box off. Bugger. Can't say I didn't try. Now where did I park that Blue thing.......

If you have SU's set up properly the first time, you should never have to touch them again. I had mine professionally set up and didn't touch them again for 2 and half years. The Webers are touchier than the SU's ever were. Yes you can't beat the sound of Webers!

Isn't it just!!!!! Been there and done that a couple of times. I generally just use matt black, although Wanye wants to paint the inside of Bluey white.....
-
...... I know I have a REALLY BAD photo of Datgirl and her car around here somewhere..........

I hope not! I still have to put the Dwarf AND Redatto back together! The event is on Sunday.... * edit due to I don't know what a Dwraf is...*

Are you happy with it? I know Waynes cage is a Dummett built one, and it's quite acceptable. Good welds? I'd be interested to have a look. P.S: the big slap hammer is here whenever you need it......

 Yes..... was I being good? Actually don't answer that......

Nice Jammies!!!
