You'll find anybody around jets are fairly red hot on FOD. 737's from the 300 series on have a reputation for being somewhat of a vacuum cleaner due to the engines being so close to the ground. It's about $10K to $15K US per fan blade for a -7 engine, and there's 28 ( I think) of them. Used to spend a lot of time filing nicks out of fan blades, and when they get too bad you replace them as a pair with the one opposite, to keep the weights similar. You have to run it afterwards, and it pays to keep a close eye on the vibration gauge. Ahh memories!!

Frozen chickens at windscreens, thawed out turkeys at the engines... it's a true story. I've seen an engine that a duck went through, and it was complete rebuild time. Usually they don't do a lot of damage, past blood and boning someones garden. You can usually tell a good bird strike by the roast chicken smell.

I just bought a TE55 rally car for $4k. Anything over $3k for a standard one, it would want to be very good. For 6k you should look at an AE86, it's much easier tweek them to the purposes you want. If 6K is your total budget, don't even think about a conversion. Decide on total budget up front, and then work to your means, otherwise it gets out of hand, fast. Cheers R

*Whistles through teeth* Right. I guessed you were new. Do you have a large cheque book? You may need it. Are you planning on doing this yourself? You will need at least a gearbox as well. In most states of this wide brown, slightly charcoaled land you will need brake upgrades as well. Prices? Google.com is your friend, or call a motor importer. If you want a reco one, add more $$$. This is not something to be undertaken by the faint hearted, and not a conversion (any of them) that will bolt into the car. A fair bit of fabrication will be involved. And I hope you're friendly with an engineer. I don't want to discourage you, but it's not an easy job. Tony Scott and co changed a clutch on his KE70 Rally car in 19 minutes from the moment the car stopped to the moment it left, in a paddock, to a hot car straight out of the stage. Dave Gaines did a diff by himself on the Fat Lady 240K in 21 minutes in the same conditions. I usually do a motor in an hour or so. No need to hurry these things. :D Should we perhaps clarify it to, how long does it take to remove an engine from a car that you want to put an engine back into? If not, side cutters rock when it comes to disconnecting wiring, fuel lines, radiator hoses, clutch cables.......

Nice, I'm impressed! Keep the current gearbox, if the previous owner has done their homework, the ratio's will be better for rally than a TRD box. TRD gearboxs are best suited to track cars. Diff ratio is a good one, too. Good luck!

A good hydraulic handbrake doesn't need a lot of force on it to work. Mine's not a good one, therefore it requires a lot. I'd be quite happy with the clubman, mainly because it's out of the way. You can''t take the handles off, because the foot brake back drives the handbrake master cylinder, and you wouldn't want to trust the circlips inside with the MC with full pressure back driving it. Still having the cable operated handbrake doesn't make it legal, the handbrake system is meant to be a completely different circuit. I know Keith Fackrell has a second set of calipers on the back of his Escort, and a reservoir on top of the MC on the handbrake, thus an independent system.

Watching is no problems, Fook, a couple of dollars, and about ten minutes.

Trust me, IWMAC requires, as part of the supp regs, for extinguishers to be tagged. Although for first timers they will often tell you to get it done next time. I get mine done at Chubb in Acacia ridge, go to the workshop out the back and they'll do it for a very minimal price. * Edit due :D *

I haven't had a boot in a road car for an age! Glove box, CD's and general crap, in the back, protective carpet and a cardboard box to stick other stuff in so it won't slide about. When I lived in country Victoria, I used to carry a box with, no joke, a chainsaw and an axe. They got me home at three in the morning more than once..... lotta trees that fell over down there.... :D

Its in the Supp regs that you need the extinguisher tagged. It's now in the CAMS manual, too. I've never had to contact lights at the autocross. Which reminds me, I need a new blue triangle... Nick, can you supply? I don't think they demand a blue triangle if your battery hasn't been moved, could be wrong, though... Then it's all systems go... :D
