  1. Heres the cam that i'm running on my 5K. Mines been converted to solid lifters. I'm happy with the cam - but will be happier when i have the carbs sorted out. The 32/36 weber might be a little big. Last week i had my car at the dyno shop for 3 days while they tried to get it jetted right. They leaned out my 32/36 to optimal, but found the throats of the carb to be a little big for the motor - they suggested maybe 28/32 weber. In the end i just had them re-jet an Aisan carb to keep me going until i can sort out something better. I know Xany runs a 28/32 ADFA carb on his 5K and is very happy with it. I'm running dual valve springs on my head - Not exactly sure what car they are from. A Double row timing chain would also be high on your shopping list.
  2. Looks like i'm one of the rare few that don't eat breakfast or have a quicky in the morning.
  3. It always amazes me why people need to stand so close to the rally track in international events. Maybe they'll rethink their viewing arrangements for the next rally. http://www.big-boys.com/articles/badrallycrash5.html
  4. I don't know if anyone has thought about the "Aussie Legends" race cars. These run a 1200cc motorbike engine with a motor bike dog box and yes they do have reverse. They even run a modified toyota diff. :D The link below will answer most of your questions. Hope it helps. http://www.aussieracingcars.com.au/faq.php
  5. Geez your taking this a bit personally. My car is all standard running gear. You wont find any big chrome wheels, chrome exhausts or body kits here. Oh and my car has got a modded 5K - so yes it goes well. Its been lowered and has got some nice rubber on it too - So it handles well too. BTW i don't race it and and i don't drive like a dick on the streets. Why spend all that time on money on stuff that is unbenificial. The car is my everyday car that lugs around my tools and myself. Occasionally i like to turn up the stereo and blast some music, but so does everyone right. Don't be mistaking me with some ricey that cruises the hot spots blasting DOOF DOOF. As for the subs going against the theme of the car - Well come on, you can't even see the subs in the boot so how can it detract from the theme of the car. Besides, i thought peoples cars were meant to be individual to their likings. I formally remove myself from any further discussions on this topic as it is going no where and is not what this topic was intended for in the first place.
  6. Jamie, thats a bit harsh don't you think. I'm afraid you're statement is incorrect. One of the first things i did after the stereo install was find and fix all the rattles. The boot has been pumped with expanding foam (it's minimal and you can't even tell that its there). All the bolts have been tightened etc. I spent many hours fixing all that stuff. So i can honestly say that there is no unacceptable noises due to the subs. Anyway, i have recently taken out 2 of the subs to free up a bit of boot space. I also changed the fabric in the boot a few years ago. Yes it looks rough, but i have to carry tools in it. So thats why she's looking very tired. BTW - Why is it so gay?
  7. True - I can understand your opinion on all accounts. I undertand that its not eveyones cup of tea to see all that fibreglass work - but i guess that i was appreciating all the detail thats gone into the car. The point i was making with my mates stereo was that his is actually louder (or more to the point you can hear him coming from a mile away), but the quality of sound is not that crash hot. However my stereo is punchy. I've had people that can't last 10secs of a bass test track. So its not so much the loudness that i was referring too, but more the quality of the sound. Sorry if i havent explained myself thoroughly in the past.
  8. When i said "Cram in as many subs as you can", well looking back that was a bit of exaggeration. I didn't mean it so literally. I simply meant, that a few 15" subs will make big Db and that you don't need a dozen or so speakers, as pictured to make good sound. As we all know it comes down to the quality of the Sub and Amp. If you buy cheap shit, you can't expect much. But if you spend a $1000 per 15" fusion sub and another $1200 on an Amp to run it, well then you're going to get good Db's with quality sound. I had 4x10" JL Audio WO-4's, and they sounded twice as good as a mates system that had 2x12" JL Audio Subs. They are both good quality subs - but it all came down the fact that i have a $700 Kicker Amp running mine and he had a $200 Audioline Amp running his. I'm not trying to start an argument here - i'm just stating facts from my experiences and trying tell push the point that the car in question was obviously not built for Db's, but rather for Show.
  9. I agree with you to an extent. I think the concept of the car was to show off the Alpine product, and make Alpine out to be classy and top notch equipment. If they had good sound and Db's as part of their objective - then they would have designed it different. Most of the cars that pull huge Db's don't have custom interiors and all that other ricey crap. 1x Headunit and usally as many 15" subs you can cram in. I've even seen ratchet straps placed around the front and rear windscreens to stop then popping out. Clearly that is not that road the builders of this car have taken. Instead they have gone for visual presentation and making their product look appealing. Like Jamie said, its this stuff that makes sales and thats what its all about at the end of the day. I think both you and I would be smart enough to realise that you honestly don't need that many speakers to get good sound.
  10. I like it from the outside (except for the wheels). Nice paintwork and i like how they continued the theme into the cabin. I think the interior design is a bit futuristic - But i guess thats the look they were going for. So they pulled it off well. Nice and simple bodykit, without any huge wings. Considering its a Show car, i would have to say well done. As for the speakers - thats all part of the show car look. Imagine if they put just a few 6x9's and a sub or 2 - your first comment would be "They spent all that money and left a stock stereo" BTW do you think those gauges are always so close to the guys shoulder?
  11. The works = Race port, new and Larger Valves, new valve guides, double valve springs and retainers, (if you get the bigport head done - he removes the welsch plug and welds in a threaded section so your able to screw in a suitable fitting to accept the heater hose). Included in this price is your general machining (decking it, acid dip, machine the tappet surfaces and crack test). Finally he does flow test it. Both before he starts the work, and the fully machined head.
  12. Your in Melbourne - I can help. Peter Robinson in Clayton is a toyota guru and has heaps of parts. 3k head shouldn't be a problem. His phone no. is 95441162. Tell him Darren with the yellow rolla sent you. Also try Centre Road wreckers in Centre Road, Springvale. (03) 9547 7377 I was there a few weeks ago, and they had a few corolla's there with 3k's. As for the port job etc. Try "Head Stud Development" in Moorabbin. (03) 9553 2517. Or drop into 31 Capella Crs Moorabbin 3189. BTW - the headwork will cost about $800 (a bit pricy, but he does the works to it) The head can always be transferred to your 5k in future. Hope this Helps Thats if you in S/E Melbourne.
  13. Theres a mountain view road near outer melbourne. Not that interesting BTW. I guess you'll have to clarify the state. I think when he said "Mountain View Road" - that he was referring to the road name and not just a road with mountain views. (i'm not being picky, just clarifying what you meant).
  14. Mmmm Very nice. Yeah i wouldnt mind owning that - then again i'd also be happy with a Dato 1600. Geez - The undercar pic shows the mirror finish on the paintwork. Have you ever seen the movie of the 240Z with supercharged chev in it? One word to dercribe it "Slippery" BTW i got a few clips of it - 13meg each. to big for here i assume.
  15. yep they cruise well. Occasionally you might get the odd wheel that falls off - but aside from that they are fine. :D As for stable - I guess it depends on who's driving and who your running from. Just kidding. The police play a vital role in our society.
  16. is this the one in question? http://www.big-boys.com/articles/idle.html
  17. Old - but entertaining. You should check out www.big-boys.com if you like this sort of stuff. Also check out www.skoopy.com. Both these sites played this clip a few months ago.
  18. The address speaks for itself. Whilst watching this movie, i caught myself holding my breath too. http://www.big-boys.com/articles/rallycarwater.html Not sure if this crash is from the recent clipsal 500 in adelaide, or a previous one. Once again the address speaks for itself. http://www.big-boys.com/articles/190kphwall.html Dumbasses cheering at this blokes mistake. At least check that the bloke is ok first. http://www.big-boys.com/articles/jeepflips2.html
  19. I just ordered the last 2 layshafts for a K50 in melbourne. $77 incl GST a piece. I pick them up monday as they have to be sent from their warehouse in Altona. As for the bearings - There are none in stock in Melbourne. The price is $112 excl GST for the front. The rear bearing is $70 excl GST. (If i could get them). The salesman said that i was the first person to buy these layshafts for over 5 years (from that specific toyota spare parts outlet). Although, they are still available in Japan. Since this part is not sold that often, the chances of Toyota getting more stock in is unlikely.
  20. This layshaft that you are discussing is for a k50 box right? Just need confirmation on this, as i have a k50 box that i broke two teeth off the second gear. I was under the impression that it's pretty much scrap metal now. But if your talking about replacement layshafts - that would make me a very happy man.
  21. I got dibs on the motor. In all seriousness that looks like a pretty decent rollover though. Doesnt look like it had rollcage either (or maybe i'm not looking hard enough). ohh well.....one less 2 door in circulation. Its a shame that she killed 3 doors in the process. sob
  22. I get 10km/L around town. Thats with a worked 5k and a single DGV weber. Thats NOT driving like a grandma either. I reckon thats pretty acceptable!
  23. I had a mate with a bluebird, that suffered a similar problem. he sheared half the bolts off, and so the wheel was sortoff just wobbling and pivoting on the two remaing bolts. He said everytime he backed off the throttle, it sounded like a wastegate on a turbo. But it was just bits of metal rubbing together as the wheel wobbled and scraped against the surrounding metal.
  24. Dude, you killed it. Hehe. :D I guess your lucky that the whole thing didn't shatter. Are those things cast in one piece, or are the centres welded in? It just looks strange the way it has broken away from the outer ring so cleanly. How long were you driving it like this?
  25. KE30 2 Door - My favourite of all the corolla's. It just so happens that i own one too. :D The orange would look different, but interesting. :) I'll be watching this topic for updates.
