  1. The timing chain tensioner is spring loaded.
  2. I've seen a bloke getting around melbourne in either a ke20 or 25. He has a Ford 289cc V8 in it. VERY quick car. A bloke i used to do weekend work for (toyota wrecker/restorer) was mates with him. I don't know too much about it, except it looked standard and blew away just about any other V8 that lined him up. Might be worth looking into this option if you want to go for a cheapish V8. Leave that Holden crap in the wrecking yards. :moon:
  3. Sorry if i came across the wrong way. I wasn't having a go at you - Just trying to offer some advice. Sorry if i offended you or anyone else.
  4. Correct me if i'm wrong- But i thought is was in relation to the larger 4WD's that weigh in at 2000kgs or more. Like the Nissan Patrol DX that weighs in at 2410kg's OR 2005 Land Rover LR3 SE at 2634kgs OR 2006 Mercedes-Benz ML500 at 2232kgs. I couldnt work out if wyldephyre was agreeing or disagreeing with. The point i was making was not so much where i have to drive but the fact that i could drive it. Where ever i go, i usually have to reverse. Admittidly i don't do alot of jobs arounds schools, but most of our jobs are done in built up areas none the less. They were getting a woman to reverse her 4WD on TV, and she hit a statue/cut-out of a kid that she couldnt see. So why is it ok for me to drive a 6m long truck where i have less vision than her, and the reporters don't come up to me in the street and spin their story on me. Just my view anyway. I think the responsibility is solely on the driver, and if your not competent enough to drive a big car - well then you shouldn't.
  5. I quiet often have to drive a 3 tonne truck for work. I am not required to hold a special truck license for this (and its about 3.6m high and 6m long). So i don't think a special license for a large car like a 4WD is suitable. I would recommmend that ALL new 4WD's come standard WITHOUT Bullbars. The people that want to go offroad can then fit them afterwards. This then eliminates thousands of 4WD's (that never leave bitumen) on our streets with bullbars.
  6. I don't think a special license is the way to go. Maybe a catscan to eliminate the select few without brains, who drive like real dumasses. There are two blokes i regularly come across on my way to work who both drive 4WD's. They constantly tailgate other drivers (including myself on the rare occasion) till i brake test the brainless pricks. Hehe. BTW, i don't condone this type of driving. I think its just the mentality of the drivers. They are in a big car so they think its alright to harass other drivers in smaller cars. To sum it all up - the majority of 4WD drivers shit me.
  7. Sorry, but a little off topic here. But apparently QLD'ers are smarter too. Here in Melbourne i spotted some QLD number plates with "Queensland - The Smart State" - Whats with that?
  8. Have you got in contact with your region leader, like the original topic suggested? P.S. Considering you have 2 posts "total", i'm guessing your relatively new here. The regulars won't take too kindly to newbies ranting and raving over a sticker. If you can't get in contact with your region leader -Then PM "Grimwolge" as he is the one who is organising the whole she-bang.
  9. Nah i'm not about to jump into the aviation industry. I was serious about it when i was 18 - I even applied for the Air Force and made it to the 4th round of interviews when i lost my temper and got into a verbal argument with the interviewer. Hence i didnt get a callback. Now i'm happily working as a Shopfitter. These days, the closest i get to planes is the many airshows i go to. P.S - I don't have a camera phone so i can't contribute here. But just imagine a few big panel saws and numerous other bits of expensive machinery. Mmmm Big Boys toys.
  10. Its not that hard to work out. Speaker wires cannot be mistaken for anything else. Check which colour wires are connected to the rear speakers. Then you know which colour wires to cut near the tape player, and wire into you CD player. If they are are the same colour front to rear - Then trace the wires and see whether they lead to the rear of the car along the sills, or into the kick panels and through into the front door. The other wires: -Earth (usually black) -Accessory Wire -Constant Power A test light will help there.
  11. I guess the maintenance crews here in Melb don't get the same paypacket as you then. Those blokes go on strike at least 3-4 times a year over pay and working conditions. Most people i know would kill to have job like that (including myself).
  12. That blokes a bloody legend. He's got a comeback and putdown line for everything.
  13. Kinda the opposite actually. 5G's means the equivilent of 5 times your body weight pushing you into your seat. The pilots have to wear special anti G suits which basically go around your abdomen and thighs. The suit then constricts to slow the blood flow to your lower body. When the G's come on, you get pressed into your seat and the blood drains from your brain and is forced into your lower extremeties. If you hold high G's too long you can blackout or (G Lock). This will leave you unconscious until you back off the G's and blood can return to your brain. On the other hand, if you put the plane in a dive the blood rushes to your head and can cause a Stroke - either way its not as graceful as it looks. At most airshows they broadcast on loudspeakers what the pilot is saying through his headset. As he puts the plane through the manouvres, you can hear him groaning and panting like he's constipated.
  14. There was a similar show to that one at the Avalon Airshow. Those pilots can pull +11G's and -6G's (in short bursts). Thats pretty impressive considering the elite RAAF and USAF pilots regularly pull 7-8G's in combat. A normal person off the street generally blacks out after 4-5G's. Theres a bit of useless info for the aviation buffs out there like myself. The plane: weighs 1200 pounds has 11.5:1 compression 350hp and the plane is capable of taking more punishment and stress than the pilot could ever withstand himself/herself. The thing i find most amazing, is that the plane can roll through 420 degrees in just 1 second.
  15. From what i believe you can, but its not really the right way to attack the problem. Infact it can cause more problems for you. Appart from that, the parts for Dellortos are scarse and VERY expensive. I got quoted for a sidedraft weber - a replacement choke retails at $40 each and emulsions tubes are $30 each and so on. 4xChokes for twin carbs and 4xEmulsions tubes for twin carbs Its said that Dellortos are more expensive than Webers, so you can do the maths. I was recommended twin 40 DCOE's for my hot 5k (if i went down that path). I actually bought twin 1 1/2 SU's yesterday for my 5K. This might be a more affordable option. Have a read of this link below. Its based on webers, but i assume its the same theory. http://64.233.179.104/search?q=cache:KilIj...e+a+weber&hl=en
  16. Heres a link to a game where you have to swing a lightsaber and kill the enemies. Dammit darth vader is quick. Enjoy http://www.t45ol.com/play_flash_us.php?ID=1270
  17. Scroll down and there is side pic of a w55. Its sort of top/side view. There is also a bit of info on the gearbox too. http://wwwrsphysse.anu.edu.au/~amh110/supra_in_volvo.htm There is one pic here of the bellhousing. Filename is "tracing.jpg" http://locost7.info/mirror/1zzfe_adaptor.php http://www.billzilla.org/4AGE-W55.jpg Scroll down to the bottom of the page. http://www.billzilla.org/4agmods3.htm A few bellhousings for sale. http://www.reardrive.co.nz/order.asp Close-Up pics further down the page. http://64.233.179.104/search?q=cache:FfuBC...arbox+pic&hl=en http://64.233.179.104/search?q=cache:v62i5...arbox+pic&hl=en http://64.233.179.104/search?q=cache:3E3bI...arbox+pic&hl=en W55 alloy 5 speed manual can be found behind R and turbo T engines. Hope some of this helps :)
  18. Thats some great footage - Always make me wonder why people would want to treat their cars like that though. The odds of an amateur like themselves, pulling off a manoeuvre like that are not so good. Anyway, here is another bloke from Saudi Arabia who thought he'd try it with his BMW. http://www.big-boys.com/articles/bmwcrash.html Once again another BMW, but this guy seems to know what he is doing. His mate even takes time out to have an orgasm over it. http://www.big-boys.com/articles/bmwdrift.html
  19. Sorry boys, but i had to go for Amity. I'm a sucker for a hot brunette. (especially when she's wearing that itty bitty bikini) :)
  20. I found this page whilst searching for carby related stuff. Its a background history on a few models of toyota's (especially corolla's). I found it to be a good read. http://www.uniquecarsandparts.com.au/unique_cars_index_t.htm
  21. I heard a similar rumour about the sump too. I think it was about a 4k one though. From what i understand, some people think that the 5k sump will interfere with the engine cross member. I'm running a 5k sump and it clears the cross member by no more than 10mm. Hope thats what you were talking about.
  22. I think they took the whole "chrome look" a bit too far.
  23. The lights wire he was talking about is as you suspected. Its just a wire that you splice into your lighting circuit to power your tacho light, when you turn your headlights on (same theory as dash lights). The signal wire is normally just connected to the negative terminal on your coil. This how its normally done for "points" style ignitions anyway.
