  1. hey guys well i had a look at the plate on my diff. Its a borg warner, 4.11 ratio. My car was originally automatic, and a 5 speed was put in it with a different diff by the previous owner ... T334 – 42 – 001 this is on the plate under p/n (part number?) ... does this mean it is a t-series diff ? I checked the FAQ and came up with a few things ... 6.7" (T) Celica ALL 71-85 (RWD) Corona RT85,95,104,114,105,115,119,134,32,34,36 72-82 Corolla TE37,51 75-79 Corolla TE27 (some) 74 Corolla AE86 83-87 (?) ... Common upgrades are a Celica/T18/Corona T series 6.7" diff ... --> could this be what it is ? The only thing that sent me down this path was the 'T' in the part number on that plate ... Cheers for your help! Dyzza
  2. man reading this thread makes me angry ... my rolla has a few little dents up the side from various dicks opening their doors on my rolla over its 31 year life ... down in the sticks of beaudesert one time, i watched some f@$kwit learner driver reverse into the front of a then-very-new excel, then panic and the 'mother' or whoever was like 'just drive' ... I took the number plates, went into the shop where the driver of the car worked (sticker on side), and gave her the details. She rang us up later on to let us know that the number plates we gave her were old, and unregistered ... so that was a dead end. Man its infuriating ...
  3. nah guys its simple ... they probably went from a relatively warm car to a freezing cold environment ... hence the camera was warmer, and the spots is just very small condensation spots forming on the lens or something ... :y: it still doesn't explain why the spots are different in some fotos, or absent in the two of you guys (maybe by that stage the air in the camera had cooled to the outside temp and condensation disappeared ? ) ;) ;)
  4. hey ... delete your thread and open a new one under here instead... under General Mechanical http://www.rollaclub.com/board/index.php?showforum=13 otherwise Mr. Moderator will move it for you and won't be so happy about it! :) :lolcry: Dyzza
  5. nah it doesn't idle properly. it will sit around 900 or 1000rpm (highest i can go without stalling) then after 20 odd seconds it will drop down and die ... hmm hehe if only it was that easy .... :lolcry: Dyzza
  6. alrighty .... well ive put in a new 'whatever that part was ... looked like a cylinder about 15mm long with fine mesh surrounding it' in ... took the car for a drive. seemed fine, a bit less power actually (maybe coz not as much fuel is getting into the motor), but yeah ... i'll see how it goes! Cheers
  7. hmm 1 - oh ok well that was very silly of me to remove hey ... i acidentally butchered it with a screw driver as well ... 2 - sounds like mine trying to idle down low, but revs fine ... dunno the problem ... Cheers
  8. D'oh! didn't think of that ... :)
  9. hey guys ... well the dream run on the stock carby is over ... the float is getting stuck at the top (i think) so the carby is flooding ... Any possible reason for this ? i have pulled the needle and seat out and cleaned them up, they look in immaculate condition... Where the fuel line plugs onto the carby, just inside the 'tube' where it bends down at a 45 degree angle, there is a sort of 'filter' i guess you'd call it ... well this one was stuffed and wouldn't let any fuel into the motor when i first put the carby on, so i took it out ... My question - what is that thing ? Could that be the source of my problems? i thought it might have just been a small filter, but I'm thinking it has more importance. ... Cheers for your help guys ...
  10. hmm is that a ke55 grill by any chance ?? looks like it to me ... Dyzza
  11. hehe i'll probably need that ... i'll keep ya posted ... tru dat ... i wanted the diff for the ratio factor, not for the strength factor ... i want the car to cruise at 3 grand down the highway :) Dyzza
  12. well A few years back i had a ke55 that me and my old man rebuilt and got the rust cut out of and stuff... It was a nice car, 200,000ks, good nick ... Anywhoo, we decided to sell it to my cousin to pay off weekly over how long it takes. Selling price was $1500. We got maybe a week or 2 worth of pay (200 bucks or so ...) and got nothing more ... I was over there the other day, and happened to notice a AE71 CSX 5 speed sitting in his backyard. The ke55 is off the road, i don't know if he was gonna put the 4ac in it (he's not mechanically minded ...) ... So i might make a proposal... He gives me the csx. and i forget the debt. :) i think its reasonable... we were probably never going to get any more money for it anyways ... The bodywork on the car isnt really great, i just want the motor gearbox and diff for me ke30 ... Its got the tacho dash and all that stuff, so if i get the car i'll be wrecking what i don't need. The seats and interior is in good nick. SO i might make this proposal very soon ... i like the idea of a free car... Sounds good yeah? Dyzza
  13. Cheers guys! AE35 and Robert - both your cars are mad! Cheers again, Dyzza
  14. tru dat yeah i learnt the hard way, had to walk a few k's to the servo once ... a good idea: buy a 5L jerry can, like 12 bucks from the servo, fill it up and leave it in the boot ... so if you ever do run out, just pour it in the tank and you'll be good for 60ks! its saved me once or twice ... and yeah i know its bad to run your tank dry all the time ... boo hoo :) Dyzza
  15. hmm well when you think about it, more people die per year from car related accidents, then from any crimes. Each of us don't see it very often, but people die on the roads everyday .. and its a constant battle for the government and the cops. Maybe the cops are given more power now with these new laws, but its all for the better. My girlfriends dad is a cop, and once you attend to accidents on a regular basis, seeing people stuck in cars next to their dead mates, you turn into a bit of a hardass. I know i would ... That kind of stuff turns you cold, so good on 'em ... book people for changing cds. A mate of a mate died when he was changing cds in his ute and lost it and hit a tree ... and he was a decent driver. All it takes is for an animal to run out in front of you in one of those 'weak' moments when you are driving - changing a cd, reaching into the backseat for something, reading/sending a sms - and you're f@$ked. Wouldn't you prefer that oncoming traffic aren't changing cds or fiddling with their headdecks or whatever? I've almost been run off the road by a car full of high school girls, arguing about god knows what and not paying attention ... Dyzza
  16. hey guys well my fuel guage in my ke30 is playin up ... since i got the car, when you fill it up, the needle never goes all the way to the top - sits about 85% full ... Up until recently, it seemed to go down evenly and fall a bit below the empty mark before running dry... Well the other night i was running on what should have been about 10L in the tank (from past experience) (half on, half off the empty mark), and ran out of fuel ... that was 20m before a servo, so i just pulled in and filled up.. Is this likely to be a problem from the guage in the tank, or the dash? I'm guessing it'd be hard to tell ... Its just one of those fiddly little problems that get annoying (like ... no reverse lights, no horn, no window squirters, no passenger door handle, skipping cd player ... :) ) oh yeah, does anyone else have a build up of pressure in the fuel tank when it gets near empty? I'm pretty sure air rushes out, not in ... so its not a vacuum... it makes squeaking noises at night as the air is sucked in through some tiny gap in the fuel cap seal ... Anyways thanks for ya help ... Dyzza
  17. hey man that's awesome news ... i agree with Jason - that thing is gonna haul. ass. i mean really haul ass ... 'specially with an s14 sr20det under the hood ... you'll have little competition on the road... I'm still stickin with the n/a ... I'm pretty keen on goin s14 sr20de ... the turbo would be great, but then there's I/C piping ... and i like my fuel economy for now ... Who knows, i might do what you have done, gone n/a, then get thirsty for some serious power! Good luck with it champ ... How's that respray coming along :D ? Nah i like the colour personally Dyzza
  18. 3 x half turns ? as in 1.5 full turns ... cool as. They get richer the more you wind them out don't they? Cheers for your help man, been heaps helpful to me ... just a side note ... one of the 5 carbies i had lying round was wound out 6 full turns ... must have been chewing the fuel!
  19. well The car problem is all sorted now ... The fix? stock carb! I had 5 of them lying round, turns out one of them was in really good condition ... and then i cleaned it up, took off the weber, and put it on... It basically started straight away (after a bit of coaxing, and a fair bit of fuel sprayed around the engine bay (oops ... lefty loosy, righty tighty) ... and runs well It runs smoother than either of the webers i had on there, it just wont idle below about 1100 RPM - just cuts straight out. The webers are good carby's, i just haven't had much luck with them on a 4K motor ... the motor is a big small, the carby a bit big ... A question: How many turns out is best for the stock carbys mixture screw ? Its out 2 at the moment ... i have a feeling it may be a bit lean ... f@$k I'm happy to have the car going again ... plus now i have fuel economy i never had before :D ;) :D DYZZA
  20. alrighty then ... the car was running heaps rich at night with a car close behind you i could see the unburnt fuel pouring out my exhaust ... i must have a float-level problem. the mixture screw was 2 full turns out, now its still running rich with the screw out only 1 full turn... normally it should be lean I'm guessing that the float is flooding the engine at all times? can't wait to get this fixed .... looks like I'm only gonna get about 300ks off 42 litres :D Cheers, dyzza
  21. hmm nah the noise is constant throughout driving... what i did realise in my sleep the other night was that when i did the timing with the timing light, i did disconnect the vacuum advance tube that goes to the carby, but i didn't plug it up at the distributor ... that might make a bit of a difference in the timing, but thats another issue ... the car has less power than it used to with the old carby, runs crap. it uses more fuel than the other one, and barely responds when the secondaries open ... i adjusted the float in the carby, but maybe not enough ... sigh I'm gonna try and get a 5K fairly soon, and rebuild that to go in the car for a while... i have a feeling this 4k has compression issues! Dyzza
  22. hmm Yeah nick it does sound like a low oil pressure noise ... Nah i'm well aware of the dangers of dropping a nut down the intlet manifold ... done that once or twice. thank god for those magnet stick things! I'll rig up a oil pressure guage and see whats the haps ... Cheers, Dyzza
  23. hey yeah i did the timing with the vacuum lines removed - it was on 20 degrees advanced .. yikes... its back to 10 now. still making the noise. i don't think its the motor knocking, sounds like somethin in the rocker cover ... hard to hear in the engine bay .. but in the car its way clear. It does it when the motor idles, and when it revs. the light knocking increases in frequency with the increasing RPM ... What does a blown headgasket do ? or one on the way out ... never had to deal with it. It just doesn't make sense - making this noise after the carby swap. I'm pretty sure its not a carby noise ... Cheers, Dyzza
  24. yeah I'm gonna put a timing light on it tonight and try and sort it out ... any other suggestions ? :P
  25. hey guys ... Well it was a major air leak that was causing the problem ... something i thought i had sorted. Thanks for all the help ... The new problem: the motor is knocking ... I'm putting a timing light on it tonight when my old man gets home, any other suggestions ? Ive made it richer in case a lean mixture was causing the knocking, but that didn't make much of a difference ... I wouldn't have thought changing a carby would alter the timing at all (from 1 weber to another weber ... ) ... Cheers, Dyzza
