first thing to check would be the accelerator pump is working, and if its poping back through the carby means its too lean. Also check your ignition timing with vac hose off of what ever the manufactuer reccomends.

hu guys, i would like to repower my ke20. it has a 4k and 5sp atm but i would like to know if a 2t or 3t motor would bolt straight in? any other engines? 18R etc? apparently you have to convert to a hydraulic clutch with a 3t. what capacity is a 3t?

hi guys i have recently tyaken my ke20 to work to get the carby looked at. my mecahnic says that its not running rich enough at idle, even with the mixture screw turned all the way out. Aparently i need to drill out the idle jet, when i have looked at the work shop man, i think it might be the slow jet?? or is this just the air bleed for the idle circuit?

I run a 74 LA lancer witha 2.6 astron engine in it, these engines arent to be under estimated, apart from timing chain issues :) they make cheap horse power. my engine has 290 duration cam, heavy valve springs, magna big port roller rocker head, adjustable cam gear, 34 ADM weber, and tuned lenght extractors with a straight through 2.5' exhaust, and 5sp gearbox. it will rev easily to 7000rpm and i havent broken anything yet. As for saturn 1600 4g32 engines, i have owned several galant in my time and these engines are very reliable cheap and if you get a good one go very well. My stock 4k is gutless compared to these engines, but is still a tidy little unit. my opinion with your ke20 is to go for the 4G32 they are a good little engine and i have measured up my corolla for one. The only prob i saw was the standard 4sp jap galant box or 5sp jap box are too long for the KE20. hope this helps cheers loran

Thanks for the reply guys. So ke20 are 110 pcd, i must have been getting it mixed up with galant stud pattern lol. just sent PMP020 a Pm hoping to find out some more info. I recently seen a post where a member had brought a KE26 wagon and had these wheels fitted??

hey guys, i have seen a few members experimenting with 15 inch saab wheels on there KE20's. I'm just wondering what model saab has the correct steel rims to use. I think Ke20's are 114mm PCD?? is that right. Also is there any fitment issues with these steelies and do they foul inner guards etc? thanks heaps :)

hey, sounds like it may be a flat battery, when you hold the key down and it clicks? try load testing it. if that dosent work, get someone to hold the key onto start and then tap the starter motor on the casing, this sometimes works if the brushes in the starter have worn down.

A 5sp gearbox is defitly a good idea for the rolla mate, some bigger diameter tyres would also help considerably :)

thaks for all the responses guys! :) unfortunetly my gregorys manual dosent list fuel tank capacity for a ke20.... so by the sounds of things they must hold 45 litres. does anyone have a rolla manual with it listed? the reason i started this topic was because my 4k is slowly running rough and using heaps more juice. What km/litres do other Ke20 owners get?? :hmm:

Hi, after recently buying myself a Ke20 corolla i have decided to join this great forum! this is my first toyota car i have owned since playing around with old chrysler/mitsus( galants and lancers) and thought that i should have a go at something different. My car is a 11/73 Ke20, its burnt orange in colour, it was originally a toyo glide 2sp auto, but now has a 5sp which i have been told are extremly rare. It also has a 4k-c engine which I'm unsure what model corolla it came out of, and I'm currently fixing it up to pass a rego inspection. i always wanted a 2dr old jdm car but was unable to find waht i was looking for(galant hardtop), when the ad for my car came up i went and immediatly brought it for $1350 because of the condition it is in. I am currently wrecking a 74 KE20 auto for some odd nic nak parts, and for the crash pad which seems to be a highly sourced after part, after reading some recent posts. I am piecing the crash pad back together and will eventually recover it lol. if anyone is looking for an odd part i would be more than happy to help out other corolla owners. ;) i will try and post some pics of my ride soon, and would like to know what sort of mods/engine conversions could be done to these cars and also if there is any aftermarket spoilers available. cheers guys :)
