I got the diff assembly out of the TA22 on Sat. A couple of other guys were getting stuck into it too. There really is nothing of interest there, though there was a Lexus (ES300?, not sure). Would that be of interest to Dfunkt?

Anyone know if it still had a gearbox in it? Father's day Sunday, I may get a leave pass.....
-
No, you can use any RWD or FWD starter motor from a 16 valve 4AGE or a 4AC. The 20 valve 4AGE starter is designed to run on the other side of the bellhousing so no good.

Doh! Oh well, hopefully someone will be encouraged to post them up. Pretty please

Someone must have been there and taken photos .......... Please

Some brand spanking new acquisitions arrived today. Some slow progress touching some light rust issues on the AE86 to stop them becoming problematic later on. Not happy with the colour match on the rattle can, so have some colour matched paint I will have a go at in a couple of weeks when I have a week off. Have had the 15 running to move it around a little as I reconfigure my storage and chuck out a pile of old junk. Only way to move it as a caliper is binding. Now have some room to move. Coming up to the final stretch for the 86. I hope!

I agree with Philbey. Market forces drive prices, and there aren't too many people out there prepared to pay that sort of money, however good they are. Old Corolla market in Australia and indeed the world is a small one. Really good cars tend to change hands quietly behind the scenes. Others sit out there for ever, waiting for somone to come up with the cash whilst everyone rabbits on about how they would buy it if they hadn't just bought this, hadn't just done that....

Every time you attempt to start it, the cold start injector squirts fuel into the plenum. There's going to be a lot of fuel in there. I still reckon you need to swap the dizzy. Can you get any codes with your setup or not?
-
Be careful. I'm not sure where you are (?), but if you are in the US or ordering from the US, your struts may well be different to what we have in Australia? Measure what you have and make sure you know what you are ordering.

You need to buy a splitter. Apply tension on the tierod end and strike the side of the draglink, not the top of the tierod end.

Often the reluctor in the dizzy buggers up. Common issue. Usually, but not always, this happens when it's hot. Then when it cools down, it will start. But I have personally been through this when engine was stone cold after a few days refusing to start. From memory it will throw up a code if you do the diagnostics, but I'm guessing you may not have that judging from your wiring. Later dizzys had a heat shield to protect the internals from the heat coming from the manifold. Easy enough to fabricate something or stick one on from something else. If you can get access to a spare dizzy, worth swapping it in and see what happens. But it could be a multitude of things

Fair point Snot 35. Realistically though, it's not hard to ring your local autoparts store and get a price. My preference is for 555 brand, I had a nasty crash years ago when a tierod failed on hitting some standing water whilst travelling in a straight line. Why are they better? Well they are made in Japan which may or may not count for anything, rather than something made in China, but that's just my opinion. But realistically, you will get whatever is available at your local supercheap or whatever. Options are pretty limited these days. If you can wait a week or two, 555 brand tierods are usually available from Thailand via ebay. Just message gira7777 on ebay and ask if he has any. Just because they are not currently listed, doesn't mean he doesn't have any. He's cheap, fast and reliable. There are forum sponsors you can ask, see the sponsors thread. Dave at AJPS does pretty good prices, google AJPS.

King Arthur to Sir Bedevere (aka KE70dave), "Explain again, how sheep's bladders may be employed to prevent earthquakes." Edit: I should add, unnecessarily of course, that I am King Arthur.

So i popped along to Paintmobile in Preston today (thanks Rollapv75) The guys there were great, put up with my semi informed questions, and took the time I needed. Best advice above was to take along a panel to colour match. I assumed I would just have to give the colour code off the build plate. Apparently it took them 3 hours to get it right. Plus they had masses of stuff like filters and what not, really cheap too. Now I just need to work out the compressor situation, mines pretty small. Debating whether to get another small one from somewhere and T piece them, or go out and hire one for the day. And find a spare few hours!

I was disappointed not to get the Renault rocket on film, but wasn't game to try and talk my way past the bouncers, to park with the chosen ones :laff: -
Take it to a local ignition place, or you can post it to Performance Ignition in Melbourne.

Just grows and grows. Highlights for me: the Civic, the TE27 Trueno, Beams AE86 and the Alfa! Plus putting a few more faces to names. Nice being able to talk to someone about the intricacies of stripping down a factory sunroof to refurbish it, and the person you are talking with understands your satisfaction at a job well done! I'd post my pics, but since they are all detail shots of where various wires and relays are on the TE27, I suspect no one will be interested..... -
So has this car got RCA's on it yet? Edit: woops, already asked that

I don't care what it won, if it's unroadworthy, fix it. If you drive around in a car that's too low, with bald tyres, then you deserve everything you get. There is a reason why being too low defects it, so raise it to a sensible height, and make sure you put some roll centre adjusters in it if the control arms aren't below the horizontal. If you were expecting sympathy, you're in the wrong place.

I got in touch with them a few months back after Aaron at Import Monster recommended them. Thank you for your interest in The Tire Rack. Your email has been forwarded to Hunter. You will receive a response to your question shortly. Please feel free to contact Hunter at (888)-541-1777 ext 744 or by direct email at [email protected]. We look forward to helping you, The Tire Rack Team Hunter never got back to me, and in the meantime, I discovered the tyres I wanted I could get in Melbourne cheaper after shopping around a bit. I think this is more likely to be a realistic alternative on larger sizes where the cost per tyre increases exponentially in Australia. The range of tyres was no better over there, again in smaller performance type tyres (13, 14inch)

Experience shows that catalogues are not always accurate. There can be variation within models.......
