I bought my car without actually looking at it, although I had watched an extensive thread on the car with detailed pics and descriptions of its problems.
When it became available, the seller was very upfront about what it looked like needing, and I very willingly jumped at it with every expectation of needing to strip down and rebuild the car. I paid a very fair price on that understanding.
I have since spent a great deal of time and a reasonable amount of money sourcing the various parts for that build, which basically I now have.
Personally I would be very nervous of paying the money commonly asked for, to get a 'restored car' with new paint etc. I would rather spend the money having the job done myself, at least then I know what the paint is hiding, and the prep work that has gone into it.
I would never by an incomplete KE1x though, except as a spares donor. Unless you were planning to modify it pretty extensively with different running gear and interior. Decent parts are just too hard to find.
