  1. What a day....by my photo count we had over 120 cars there today, despite the typical Melbourne weather! While Picasa is chugging through the few hundred photos I'm uploading, here's a few of my favourites.
  2. Stuff the weather, I don't care if the place is under water, I'm there! Blue Thing's got the ride height to clear any puddles, will be laughing!
  3. Just a reminder that this will be on regardless of weather! Yes, we are that keen! All donations taken on the day will go to the Children's Protection Society to help support them with their work. We will also be taking a collection of goods for children & babies (toys, clothing etc) in good condition to donate as well. If you have any new, or near new items to donate, please bring them with you & for collection by Frank at his white RA28 Celica.
  4. Myself & three others picked up my AE82 shell & put it onto then lifted back off a trailer when I moved. An AE86 wouldn't be too much different, if in doubt, get more people.
  5. At $0.14 a kilogram, I didn't think AE86 shells were that heavy.
  6. Cheers for the heads up on that one, I had to think about it for a while before it made sense though! :laff:
  7. Just a reminder that our Annual General Meeting is on tonight at The Emerald Hotel, starting from 8pm. This is where our paid-up members are able to vote for who they would like to fill Committee Member positions. Hopefully I shall see you there, just don't get between me & my lamb shanks!
  8. Well, I can tell them where it ended up! :laff: Made a mental note to go a little easier on the sealant. Indeed it is, I believe the owner is a member of TCCAV & brings it out for a drive occasionally to our events. I was implying that the odd car out in that photo was my car, hardly a sports car. :P Here's some more shots of that one to keep you happy. Back to the engine build, the block is at the machinists for an acid dip to clean out 25 years worth of crud. The deck surface has some marks from the headgasket in it, so will be skimmed, hopefully only 0.25mm & am yet to hear back on the condition of the bores. I'm aiming to re-use the standard pistons with a new set of rings, so if I can get away with just a light hone of the bores, I will be a happy chappy. The machinist seemed optimistic about this, but time will tell.
  9. More shiny! Crankshaft required 0.25mm (10 thou") taken off all the journals & over-sized bearings to suit supplied. On a side note, one of the life motto's of the person who last assembled this engine must have been "I MUST SILICONE ALL OF THE THINGS!". The sheer amount of the $h1t I've cleaned off not only mating surfaces, but dug out of oil & coolant galleries...urgh!
  10. The Supp Regs/Entry forms for Round 6 in Bendigo on the 20th of July can be found here, while JRace Entry Forms can be found here. For a Google Maps link to the venue, please click here.
  11. Everyone loves photos! She got a light skim, 0.25mm taken off & the intake ports received a little love. As did the exhaust ports, being opened up to match the gasket/manifold, now all clean & ready for reassembly!
  12. I'm a fan of this having this "spare time" I hear so much about, things can get done! Dropped off the crankshaft to another machine shop today, they're going to be cleaning up the main bearing & conrod big end journals for me & supplying bearings to suit. I balked at the quoted price at first, then realised it included the cost of said bearings & saves me having fart about. Done & done, see you in a few days! In the meantime, the block is off the stand & on the bench.
  13. It sort of is, I read your thread on CAD programs & decided to give Google SketchUp a go. It's pretty easy to use once familiar with the controls & lets me see my dodgy pencil/paper drawings as a model of what I plan to make. Easy to tweak things as you go too, making it will be the real fun.
  14. The Bendigo round of the VMC is on the 20th of July, it also includes a JRace round, which is good to see as that appeared to take a little bit to get going. It'll be great to see you out there if you can make it. :) The cylinder head destined for BT is now at the machine shop, after a lengthy chat with the guy we came up with a 'to-do' list. It reads along the lines of: - Hot tanking (give it a proper clean) - Hardness/Pressure/Crack/Vacuum testing (no evidence of overheating, just insurance & to see how good my valve lapping job is) - Light skim of the block mating surface (no warpage, but some slight indentations from the head-gasket rings) - Removal of factory casting/machining marks from intake/exhaust ports (those sharp edges, not a fan) - Port match exhaust ports to manifold That's it. Just the basics really, but that's all I need. Should have it back on Friday, currently doing my actual head in re-working out the intake manifold design. Optimal runner lengths, pressure waves... URGH. :( From what I can tell, as long as the runners meet the head approximately horizontal rather than sloping down, the carburetors sit level & it all fits before hitting the clutch master/brake lines, it'll do! SamQ is kindly making an intake manifold flange to suit a bigport for me, a fellow TCCAV member has some tube/bends for me, I have a grinder & a welder, more times in the shed!
  15. Freemake Video Converter solved that problem for me. I know your anger here!
  16. It's a daily driver, not a race car remember? (says the guy who stripped his interior & exhaust to shave 0.2 seconds at Heathcote!)
  17. Do it, do it, do it! Anywho, "better than the orginal" time:
  18. Thankfully, I don't have to do that! For most of them at least. I'll need to test fit the louver & see if I can put the sticker where it's visible & doesn't foul on the wiper. Hadn't thought of that!
  19. DIY valve lapping, an easy way to save some money at the machine-shop. Before on the right, after on the left. All the valves are straight & with tolerances, so they're right to go back in. Still to double check the valve springs, but if they're also good, then that's $150 saved. Might splurge on getting the valves crack tested as well as the head in that case. :hmm:
  20. Spoken like a true Northern State Resident :P
  21. Welcome back, I missed seeing your avatar around. The 2A-C is fun, but it's not quite...umm...enough. I wanted to see what you can do with one, now I know & because of this, it's lifespan is limited. A 4A-C would drop in, but where's the fun in that? I got bitten by the motorsport bug, just a little bite though as I'm starting at the shallow end (in terms of cost/commitment) but damn it's fun. Glad you enjoyed the videos, I enjoy being able to post videos of me doing things that on the public roads would have me arrested, my licence removed & my car impounded (never mind killing others or myself). Good luck with finding an '82, I hope you can find one without the usual rust spots being too bad! I know of a few AE9x's for sale, but if any AE82's come along I'll give you a heads up. Gokai needs finishing (no $h1t), but with playing with BT there isn't the time nor money available. Once again being put on the back-burner but what's new?
  22. Just a reminder, two weeks to go until Winterfest! :worship:
